#"Look upon it. Does it not spark the question in your mind 'What is out there? And how can we benefit from it?' Thousands of stars, millions of worlds. Imagine what we could learn from it all." ---Daegra

An average day in Runeterra is not so easily describable. In Runeterra, nothing is routine or natural. Everything has it's own peculiar randomness and everything is out of the ordinary. And this theme only continued as the times went on. At least, everything was much more average before a particular boy was born, thousands and thousands of years ago: Daegra.

Daegra's mother was a nomadic, and could not fend for her child. She left Daegra at the doorstep of Icathia's orphanage, knowing that, unlike herself, they would be able to supply Daegra of his necessities until he grew of age. Growing up, Daegra found himself fascinated with the stars that illuminated the midnight sky, sneaking out each night from underneath the noses of the orphanage's caretakers to climb the tallest building he could find in the city--- the clocktower. Atop it, he mapped out every dot in the sky, from dusk til dawn, scribbling and sketching every star, every constellation, every planet and nebula he could find. Collecting up his allowance given by the orphanage, he was eventually able to afford a telescope by his early teenage years, greatly expanding his ability to record his findings.

By the time he became a young adult he left the orphanage, eager to set up a school where he could teach of his studies. He presented them to the general public, and to his delight many became intrigued of his research. Small crowds accompanied his classes, until eventually over the course of a few years, he was able to appoint several other teachers-- once students who had learnt well from his lectures. Eventually, the small school evolved into a full fledged college, which became a beacon of knowledge and information during the time it existed.

For many, many years, Daegra taught and taught from the very same booklet he had compiled ever since he was a child, until one fateful day, one of his pupils asked a question that froze Daegra in his steps.

"What is the black behind the stars?"

It was a question he himself had overlooked. He found himself absolutely dumbstruck, scrambling to find a good answer, but in truth, he didn't truly know what it was, or what it was made of. Stars are simple, finite objects that are made of gasses. But space-- although he knew the word, is much more vast, and unknown; a painting that only seems like an empty canvas. After the class he headed back to his home, immediately beginning his study of the abyss that blanketed the sky behind the stars, but to no avail. Eventually, Daegra consulted oracles and prophets for hopes of foretelling what he sought for, but he received the same answer every time: Destruction. Annihilation. Death. Unsatisified and consumed with disbelief with the answer, he took matters into his own hands. He constructed a magic container, capable of enveloping darkness and incubating it inside. Each night, he would set it out to harvest the shadows of the night, and continued doing so for months, until eventually, one night, the darkness spoke.

The voice introduced itself as Cho'Gath, a being from another realm entirely. Cho'Gath claimed that he was the wisest of his kind, an advanced civilization, and that he had been watching Daegra for quite some time. He also mentioned that he wished to connect their worlds, in hopes of creating a bridge to exchange knowledge and wealth. For Daegra, this was an irrefusable offer. As the months went by, Daegra constructed a large, arced portal at the top of a hill near the outskirts of Icathia with Cho'Gath's guidance and instruction. When the portal was finished, all Daegra had to do was cast the spell that would awaken the portal and bridge the gap between the two planes. Before he did so, he gathered the entire town in awe as he began to explain that he had found an 'otherworldly being' that had guided him to create this gateway in hopes of meeting an entirely new people, and extensively expanding our knowledge of the unknown.

When Daegra cast the spell and tore open the rift that separated the two realities, instant regret shot down Daegra's entire body, as what he was promised was the exact opposite of what had been presented. Cho'Gath was not a part of a highly advanced race, but an indomitable, colossal monstrosity who instantaneously ate one of the onlookers who stood too close to the gateway. Cho'Gath marched out, roaring with laughter of how he had all so easily decieved the professor, and had been offered a platter of screaming humans , which he found himself easily convinced to continue to devouring as more and more people began to run screaming back into the city. As Cho'Gath rampaged and consumed more lives, he grew larger and larger, until he stood as tall as the College of Astronomy itself. Daegra, regretful of his gullibleness, and how he was oblivious to Cho'Gath's manipulation, decided that he needed to redeem his mistake. He ran up to the portal and began taking apart the archway piece by piece, using hand and magic to destroy as much as he could. Eventually, the gateway collapsed, causing a huge explosion that obliterated the entire countryside, leaving Icathia in ruins for Cho'Gath to eat up the remains of.

Even though Daegra was the closest to the blast, Daegra was able to clutch onto what remained of his life's essence, surviving in stasis between the two planes of existence. He laid there, floating in the vacuum of absolute nothing, for thousands of years, perfectly petrified just as he was when the blast had struck. And although the portal was closed by Daegra himself, the wound remained, and eventually split open again. New voidborn terrors crawled out of the otherworldy orifice, using the rift as a way to expand their vile desires-- a Manifest Destiny for new horrors and monstrosities.

Over the course of aeons, the rift tore so wide through the fabric of the plane, that Daegra was spat right out from his comatose state, just as young as he was thousands of years prior. His dormancy between Runeterra and the Void allowed the essence of both worlds to flow through him-- one keeping him alive, and the other corrupting his very being, and changing him into something else, imbuing him with unearthly powers and abilities. Although the world had changed, and much catastrophe had been witnessed, Daegra swore on himself that he would seal the rift away once and for all, and all the void abnormalities with it, for it was he who allowed them into their world, and it would be him who would send them back from whence they came.

#Passive: A Wounded World http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/wowwiki/images/d/dd/Ability_mage_netherwindpresence.png/revision/latest?cb=20081101023634

Every 5 minutes, a Void Rift will crack open somewhere in the jungle, seeping out the essence of the void into the world, which is visible on the mini-map by both teams. Daegra can approach a rift and channel it for 5 seconds, which will close the rift, restoring 20% of Daegra's max health and mana instantly and granting him Icathia's Legacy for 120 seconds, as well as permanently increasing Daegra's ability power by 4. The Void Rift will also spawn 4 neutral Void Scions which will attack upon provoking or attempting to close the rift.

Icathia's Legacy: Every third basic ability is empowered, giving a bonus affect in addition and refunding half it's mana cost.

#Q: Enigmatic Supernova http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/wowwiki/images/9/95/Ability_warlock_coil2.png/revision/latest?cb=20120401180447 Cost: 75/85/95/105/115 Mana Cooldown: 4 seconds Skillshot Length: 750 units Skillshot Width: 250 units Skillshot Speed: 1150 AOE Radius: 450+ units

Daegra shoots out a wide skillshot that deals 50/80/110/140/170 (+65% AP) magic damage to each enemy it hits, creating a small supernova field of continuous damage around each enemy struck for 5 seconds, that deals 30/35/40/45/50 (+30% AP) magic damage to all enemies in the field each second. Enemies in multiple fields take 25% of the damage instead from all additional fields beyond the first.

For each Void Rift that Daegra has closed, Supernova's length and AOE radius increases by 20 units.

Icathia's Legacy: Moving into the supernovas causes Daegra to gain 25/30/35/40/45 movement speed for 3 seconds. Each individual supernova he moves into regenerates 2% of his maximum health over 6 seconds, capping up to 10% of his maximum health.

#W: Between Worlds https://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/wow.gamepedia.com/8/88/Spell_mage_arcaneorb.png?version=2cb818e64da7b1b9d138fa46d43a2233 Cost: 75/80/85/90/95 Mana Cooldown: 16 seconds AOE Radius: 600 units

Daegra enters a stasis for 1 second, immune to all damage and crowd control effects for the duration. After the stasis is up, Daegra releases a large wave of magic around him in an area, dealing 80/120/160/200/240 (+40% AP) magic damage to all enemies hit. If it hits an enemy champion, he gains 20/25/30/35/40% movement speed for 3 seconds.

Icathia's Legacy: Grants Daegra gains 15% of his maximum health as a shield for 4 seconds. The first enemy champion that deals damage to Daegra with the shield up is slowed by 25% for 2.25 seconds.

#E: Grasp from the Abyss https://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/wow.gamepedia.com/8/8f/Spell_shadow_dispersion.png?version=6b9fe33c950f15e99fb166c7fc7452e6 Cost: 80/90/100/110/120 Mana Cooldown: 12 seconds Casting Range: 700 units AOE Radius (Base Ability): 275 units AOE Radius (Icathia's Legacy): 325 units Cone Distance: 600 units Cone Angle: 55°

After a 1.75 second delay, all enemies within a small area are teleported in front of Daegra, dealing 35/55/75/95/115 (+45% AP) magic damage to all enemies teleported.

If Grasp from the Abyss hits an enemy champion, Daegra becomes sheathed into the void for 5 seconds, causing 10%/15%/20%/25%/30% of damage taken from champions to be shot back in their direction in a cone as magic damage. 50% of damage dealt this way is regained as mana over the course of 2 seconds.

Icathia's Legacy: After 3 seconds, a pulse of dark energy sparks outward from Daegra in all directions, silencing enemies hit for 1 second and dealing 45/55/65/75/85 (+35% AP).

#R: Epicenter of the Dark https://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/wow.gamepedia.com/d/de/Inv_icon_shadowcouncilorb_purple.png?version=1d65f0a8cb6951c30a9a70124064cd68 Cost: 100/125/150 Mana Cooldown: 115/85/65 seconds Casting Range: 1100 units AOE Radius: 600+ units

After a 3 second delay, a black hole opens in the target area, pulling all nearby allied and enemy minions, pets, champions and monsters into the abyss, putting them into a stasis for the remaining duration of the effect. Any units that walk into the area of the black hole during the duration are also pulled in. After 2.5 seconds, the black hole implodes, spitting out all enemies absorbed in the middle of the area, and dealing 120/240/360 (+60% AP) magic damage to all enemies that came out of the black hole.

For each champion that gets sucked in, the area of effect grows by 50 units.

Reactivating Epicenter of the Dark while the black hole is still up will cause the black hole to close prematurely.

My main concern is how underwhelming the passive is. At Rank 5 it's 1.5 Regen beads worth of Regen which is really really weak given what goes on. It would be like a slightly better version of old Fiora passive (widely regarded as the most useless in the game). I would instead suggest walking over to it, and as long as it lives grants you a buff (incentivises enemies to kill it/you keep it alive) as it provides another point of contention within the game.

I amPoroKiller6/14/2016, 5:16:37 PM2 votes

Yeah bro, ahhh it looks pretty cool, but where's the kit?

Bobo1136/15/2016, 4:03:00 AM2 votes

So with that rift passive:

-do you think there should be a special event signifier every time the void opens - sort of like Draven's adoration stack announcement? (Have you ever played "Kirby Air Ride: City Trial?" The "events" in that game are pretty awesome, and this could envoke a similar level of excitement)

-would it be interesting to make the rifts spawn a small number of neutral void monsters around it that drop mild amounts of gold if killed?

He sounds really cool, what would you classify him under? Also check out the character i made, his name is Monk Sai

Very well made, seems like you put a lot of hard work into it. I could totally see this as a champion

Drunk Tsundere6/16/2016, 8:24:12 PM2 votes

Very cool backstory. I definitely want to explore how the rift to the Void was created, and what exactly the Void is. That is some important but unexplored history.

How is he supposed to play? I know that it's hard to design a kit without being able to playtest it in game, but what is your idea here? Daegra himself is a really cool idea.

The "Piltover faked the moonlanding" quote did it for me XD you are always so good at making champions sound so cool and funny...

Where do you find the artwork you use? Do you just google for it?

I feel like I'm going to need some sort of sample art at some point for my own thread.

Reaper Review6/17/2016, 4:46:11 AM2 votes

Is there a reason your lore/quotes don't mention Kassadin even once? You'd think Daegra would consider him an ally since he's also out to oppose the Void.

In fact, nobody in this thread's even mentioned Kassadin at all, despite some similarities between his and Daegra's goals.

Reaper Review6/17/2016, 5:00:51 AM2 votes

I didn't notice the icon because I just Ctrl-F searched for Kassadin.

Makes sense now.

LilStacey8712/11/2016, 8:30:35 AM2 votes

Alright! I know I'm about 5 months late but I seen the Artwork, read the Lore and abilities and had to share my thoughts.

The Lore: Great! For a young professor so have a tragic turn of events is terrible. But it's what makes a good story. As a young orphan I can see why he would be so trustworthy when it comes to something that came from space/void. That was his passion, so he was blinded my infatuation. I like how the quotes and abilities synergize with the character and bring him to life! Very cool!

Passive The passive is unique, having a rift spawn in the jungle makes for a fun time for both you and your opponent and add mind games into the match. You wouldn't be able to tell if Daegra is getting Blue Buff, Closing a Rift, or simply roaming for a gank, which I think is pretty cool. With this passive in play, there should be a lot of pings going on in the enemy team. I do think the ability Power increase should be higher since the Rift's spawn every 5 minutes. That means in 25 minutes your can get about 20 AP, which is a little on the low side. Icathia's Legacy is cool. it's a good reward for capping a rift. A two minute buff isn't bad IMO. And the heal gives him the sustain he needs as a mage.

(Q) The mana cost is high as crap! I gets this promotes closing Rifts though, so that's a good thing, But I had a question. How long does the super nova AOE last? it does a lot of damage so I can't imagine the move lasting a very long time. Im not sure why Daegra would run into his Super Nova for movement. I think your better off adding an AOE slow so combo with your Ultimate.

(W) I love this ability! This is probably my favorite one because not many Champions in league use Stasis. And with your KIT and LORE it fits well into your theme. The Icathia's Legacy shield is a little on the low side i think, so you might want to buff that up a bit to add to his defenses. Speaking of defenses, I really don't see a reason to add a slow for breaking the shield. If you dont mind me suggesting, I think Icathia's Legacy should just simply remove all harmful de-buffs on Daegra while in Stasis. But it's your Champ, I'm just throwing that out there.

(E) This is my second favorite move. It takes awhile to charge but with the right CC, an AOE blinking-pull would be cool to see. Since the Grasp does damage during the teleport, adding a 3 second AOE on Icathia's Legacy doesn't seem worth it. Your very creative, so I know you could think of something better. Or just have the Grasp effect on Champion hit the new Icathia's Legacy for balancing purposes.

(R) This is the only move in the KIT that I think needs so revision. The Black Hole theme is cool, even the AOE pull to the Epicenter. But I think the wind-up is a little too long for your KIT. right now, you only have a slow which you can't even proc yourself... so setting up a group AOE would be hard unless you have the right team with crowd control.

All-In-All I like your work, I read a few more of your concepts and your pretty consistent with your skills as a champion concept enthusiast.

When you have time, please review my concept and let me know what you think. I know my LORE needs lot of work as well as my artwork, but vist my post when you get a chance.

Xander, The Elite

Thanks in advance, Aejis

Going to enter either Oasihl or Daegra into the CCOS this month~ Gonna let the CCOS host pick for me though, because I'm honestly torn on which one I'd submit-- I equally enjoyed making both!

Also tweaked the passive a bit~

Bit of a necropost, more or less to say that I've returned.

In any case, I'll be trying to see if I can't weasel Daegra into the CCOS when possible-- This month's contest is limited in timeframe so he will not be able to be enter, but perhaps I will be able to convincing Echoing to broaden the timeframe for November. Here's hoping!

In terms of updates, I've decided to tweak down his passive ever so slightly, he now gains 4 AP from each rift instead of 5.

sneezing slug12/11/2016, 2:01:21 AM1 votes

Fiddled with some numbers, especially his passive/ult.
