Wukong Needs A Rework Or An Update
As you may know,
has been in a weird place for quite some time now. His only currently viable playstyle is an assassin, which he is not supposed to be, to my knowledge at least. Other builds are not even viable. Also
is useful only when ahead.
There are some reasons why that is the case.
#Passive: Doesn´t provide much of anything. 20/30/40 MR/ARMOR when in the middle of 5 people.
You might say " Ey that´s not too bad, 40 of each resistance for free"...However, that is ONLY if you´re in the middle of 5 enemies.
In lane 1v1 that is 4/6/8 armor...You can get that from just resolve as anyone, or some champions have that in their base stats.
Furthermore, this passive is accessible to anyone with the purchase of
.No actual uniqueness.
And simply, it pales in comparison to other passives in the game and doesn't help him with anything.
You are not a tank or a bruiser at the moment so such low amount of defense doesn't make much of a difference.
Now that we´ve gone through his passive, let´s talk about his abilities.
Q:Crushing Blow: Extends range of next basic attack and deals bonus 30 / 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 (+ 10% AD) physical damage and reduces target´s armor by 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30%.
You see, the armor penetration is great however the ability itself is very very snowball reliant. If we compare this to some other autoattack enhancing ability, like  ´s old Savagery(Q) or  ´s W, it deals very pitiful damage. You might argue that the 30% armor penetration is worth a lot, but you simply don't have enough sustained damage to make use of it against tanks or other bruisers and the effect is hardly recognizeable for your AD carries to hit the target just because of that. Also, the armor penetration is applied after the actual hit so the only thing enhance by it would be your E or Ult however you have to gapclose with your E so that´s debatable.
#W: Decoy. This ability is interesting and unique, but outside of the stealth...pretty worthless.
Does no damage, provides no utility, is very easy to see through just after playing against
once. It is purely used for stealth. However all other stealth abilities in the game are WAAAY better.
It´s damage scales with ability power, which is impossible to come by as
and even if you went with AP based build it is impossible to do any meaningful damage with it.
#E: Nimbus Strike. The bread and butter of
.
The only ability actually making him not completely worthless. Does decent damage and provides him with some attackspeed and is a target dash. The only problem with this one is that it is a target dash, greatly reducing his options in a fight and makes it pale in comparison to other bruiser/skirmisher or any other ability with mobility.
#Ultimate(R):Cyclone .
Even though it does some decent damage over the duration there is one big problem with this ability. You are not tanky enough even with your passive to make use of it in a teamfight and with its 110% AD scaling you can´t waste your items of defense without AD.
Also is very easy to flee from with a dash or something similar, since
is locked out of his other abilities when using it. You usually use it just for the knockup and the initial tick of damage before canceling it so you can use your other abilities. I would say that´s a waste of an ability.
This has been mostly a rant to this point. Any solutions? Well....not really, there are just points that i´d be like to be achieved with his changes.
#1. Give him a new Passive altogether.(Something thematic tied to Sun Wu-kong)
#2. Spread his damage more evenly between his spells.
#3. Give a slow to his W or make it do something useful except the stealth. Remove the AP ratio and change it to something reasonable.
(Keep the concept, since he is supposed to be the character equivalent to Sun Wu-Kong)
#4. Decide on his role in the game. Diver/Skirmisher/Assasin or make him able to choose somehow and not be tied to one and only viable path.
#5. Make him not as snowball reliant.
#6. Make him look a little bit up to date...please?
