Champion Concept: Raven Crowe, the Inevitable Entropy

I made this concept on the 17th of January 2017. I have had Raven since I was 11.

First off, I came up with the basic idea for Raven when I was 11. I am no longer an edgelord but the name stuck. Second, he only recently got a set of powers that I truly felt represented him. So let's take a look! Tell me what you think in the comments if you want. It would be really helpful.

Passive: unceasing Rage

Every time Raven lands an autoattack, it applies a stack of rage to himself and a world decay stack to his target. This will deal damage equal to 4/5/6/7/9% of the target's max healt over 1 seconds. Each successful autoattack will increase the speed of the damage and decrease the duration of the stack by 1 second. After the stack of world decay has reached its end, it explodes, consuming the stack of rage and heals Raven for the same amount of damage that it dealt.

Q: Precise strikes (7/6/5/4 cooldown)

Precise Strikes: when Raven auto attacks, the target gains a stack of "pressure pointer." At four stacks, Raven can activate his Q to leap behind the target and stun them while dealing physical damage scaling with his ad.

W: Smashing jab

Active: Raven fires a cone skillshot that, after 2 seconds, detonates, dealing physical damage that scales with 20/25/30/35/40% of his ad. It then turns that area into hollowed ground for 30 seconds. Passive: Hollowed ground: all enemies that walk onto hollowed ground will be slowed by 20/25/30%, and will receive bonus damage on autoattacks from Raven.

E: Race to the end

Raven becomes ghosted, and gains 20/30/35% bonus movespeed for 5 seconds. His next autoattack will leap to the target, then create a field that shreds the armor of enemies by 25/30/35% for 5 seconds, and slows them for the same amount as would be given from his w.

R: Overwhelming force. Raven unleashes his full rage, entering an armored form and nearly losing control for 10 seconds. His ad is increased by 40/45/50%, gains 40/45/50% bonus attack speed, and his armor is increased by 50% for the duration. In addition, he heals for 10% of all damage he deals on basic attacks during this time. All abilities become unusable other than his ult.

When reactivated, his ult turns into "Become One." When Become One is activated, Raven ceases autoattacking for 5 seconds, and will instead slow himself and all enemy champions in a radius around him for 20%. He will drain health from all enemy champions, scaling with his ad, and will restore health equal to 30% of all damage he deals.

Gameplay:

Early game: Raven is good for dueling in the early game, though you'll want to force the enemy into an early retreat by autoattacking them to apply your passive damage. This will make them either have to retreat or deal with your consistent damage and healing.

Mid game: By now, you'll want to have some ad bonuses, so that your attacks will have that extra sting. You can close gaps with your e, and you have a safe means of crowd control with your q, though it only affects one unit.

Late game: this is where Raven shines. He's got the skills to focus down an enemy and bring them down to death status or at least "not safe to engage raven" status. His ult is good sustain, and he can quickly turn teamfights by reactivating and utilizing "become one," which allows his team to catch up as he deals consistent damage to the enemy.

Lore: Raven is a melee fighter who lets his demonic gauntlets do the talking for him in fights. When he was very young, he was tricked into a contract with the powerful Entropic Demon Balpheus Regent (more on the Regents in future posts. I've got some cool ideas for the demons bearing that title). However, this contract caused rapidly increased necrosis in the small child, until in an moment of weakness he lost control and destroyed his hometown, slaughtering all the people in it. At that moment he learned of his calling: he had absorbed the very essence of his town and neighbors into his body, offsetting the decay, the mark of an Entropic Demon, a destroyer of universes. He soon befriended a friendly sniper, Arlo Haversham, a girl with demon blood, Deryn, and an experiment on evolution gone wrong, Vermillion. The four of them began their universe-hopping tour, with Raven offering salvation to those in dying universes by accepting their matter into his body, delaying his necrosis through rapid regeneration. He has made plenty of enemies, the most notable being Lyle, a magical prodigy and servitor of an elder god. Now he has arrived on Runeterra, having recently reached 1,000,000,000 years of age, and lives in Zaun, staying with Viktor in his house on Emberflit Alley, and occasionally working with Warwick to bring criminals to bloody justice.

Raven has deathly pale skin, even whiter than snow. He has black hair, and his eyes have red irises and jet black sclera. He is very thin, yet quite muscular. He wears a dark jacket that goes down to his knees.

Selection quote: Entropy is here. There is nothing you can do now.

Taunts:

Aurelion Sol: You are nothing. I have consumed greater stars.

Ryze: Ryze! Let us work together to save this world before it is too late!

Void champs: You have taken many of my friends and loved ones. You will not take the few I have left.

Kassadin: Fight fire with fire. Usually I endorse that idea.

Tryndamere/Renekton: You know nothing of true anger.

Nasus: I see your long life has not increased your intelligence.

Azir: You have others do your work. Behold, Shurima, your glorious leader.

Jinx/Lux: I will fight for those I care about, even if I must fight those I care about.

Warwick: Play dead.

Ekko: You could be doing so much more!

Caitlyn: He puts more thought into it.

Vi: You must be new to this punching thing.

Quotes after killing someone after ten seconds of combat

Mordekaiser: COME BACK, MORDEKAISER, SO I MAY KILL YOU AGAIN!

Aurelion Sol: YOUR STARS ARE WORTHLESS, STAR FORGER!

Kindred: EVEN DEATH FALLS BEFORE ME!

Hecarim: YOUR LEG IS BROKEN, HECARIM!

Void Champ: HOW DOES IT FEEL?!

Tryndamere/Renekton: NOW YOU KNOW OF TRUE ANGER!

What's up.

As of the time I'm posting, you still need a lore to go with this guy if you want to enter him in the CCOS. Actually LOOKING, unlike before, I can see a lore - it just isn't marked as such. Recommend you do that. Otherwise, I'm here to help refine your concept.

I can overlook the name given that we have Talon and Singed as champions.

The passive sounds like a good idea. It's not - not only is Raven strictly prohibited from jungling due to stack starvation, this also means he's doubly screwed if he falls behind in lane and gets denied CS, as he's no longer gaining AD and it's even easier to duel and kill him. The downsides here are a little TOO much - I understand you were going for a variant of Thresh's passive, but Thresh scales survivability and uses a ranged attack and shield and a knockback/pull to ensure he can actually survive.

The Q is actually interesting. I'm ignoring Brutalize since it's a gratuitous addition to the kit that ends up totally broken (1000 HP = 300 extra damage, and a 2 second fear is more than long enough to repeat the process) and can be safely cut from the kit.

The W is a mistake. You provide your enemies a free disengage. There is no appropriate time to use this unless there are no enemies around to capitalize on your error. Even if it didn't self-slow, it's an ability that's outdone by Black Cleaver.

The E is also a mistake - you cannot duel at all when you're slowing yourself down. That lets literally everyone in top lane run circles around you since you're so kind as to permaslow yourself. It's also a low-satisfaction ability, being little more than a worse Meditate.

The R's only redeeming point is Brutalize. Which is broken. When you're left with that, you remove any hope of versatility in exchange for a mediocre attack speed boost outdone by getting tagged by Ardent Censer.

As a whole, you're generally suffering from low-impact, low-reward, high-risk gameplay that would make Raven incredibly good IF he could actually land four hits in a row on someone. He can't - he's too busy being permaslowed and kited, or shoved out of range. Raven's missing a gap closer, CC that DOESN'T screw him, any innate survivability that doesn't come from killing minions, an unfortunate dependency on killing minions to even power up, and an overall lack of options that give Raven no counterplay options against the majority of the cast. In the CCOS, you'll be lucky to break 40 points out of 100.

So let's see if we can't fix that up.

You've got a stated design goal - self-sustaining bruiser - so we can work along those lines. I'm going to recommend you keep the Q no matter what, since it's a solid ability that offers good CC and sets you up for continued damage. Everything else has to go.

I don't think you're playing up the entropic theme as much as you could be, especially if it's frying you in the process. We can work with that though. Perhaps a passive that applies a long-duration, relatively low-intensity DoT on dealing damage to an enemy champion, with each successive hit adding another stack and reducing the duration, with a decently-powered burst upon wearing off that also heals you? This gives you reason to stay in a fight - the longer you stay, the faster you'll deal damage, the more you'll heal - while also giving enemies an option after getting hit - can they fight through the damage and healing, or should they blow a disengage now?

That option's most in line with self-sustaining bruiser, but you could also opt for the opposite - marking enemy non-champions with entropy, which slowly damages them and causes them to explode on death for some damage to nearby enemies. This adds a good deal of waveclear and jungle clear capability to you, but doesn't directly benefit your dueling save for a few fringe cases.

You COULD get by without a gap-closer if you had a way to ensure you could still fight with enemies nearby. You could create a damage+slow field by forcibly causing the area to break down, which starts to expand over the duration. This goes well with passive option 1 and your Q in that it encourages an all-in or back-off mentality on your enemies, while also introducing useful utility to help peel for allies or set up kills.

Alternatively, if you wanted a gap-closer, you could give yourself a movement speed boost that also Ghosts you, while leaving behind you a trail of entropy that starts to deal damage over time and erode their armor. This gives you an escape option as well as an engage option, and again provides an aid for allies by increasing their damage and disincentivizing pursuit.

You should still have options if you're out of AA range. You were fond of cone AoEs - you could weaponize that with a cone of entropy that explodes and slows after a delay. If it's got good range, you can use it to zone or trap enemies, while a decent delay gives enemies ample time to react accordingly. You might want more survivability - a shield that leeches off nearby enemies to give itself more health is also an option, especially if combined with the ghost option.

You need to be careful with your ult - consider what your kit already has. You still need proper weaknesses so you can be defeated - what a good ult should do is either amplify your strengths or provide unique utility. In the case of the former, regardless of which passive you picked, you could emit a burst that marks every enemy with an extra-powerful version of that passive while also increasing AD for each enemy champion hit. You still have to punch someone to get the benefit, but it plays into your strengths and encourages tanky builds by giving you plenty of AD on a good ult.

If you were opting for a utility route, you could create a large area where terrain is completely negated for a time. This sets up unique opportunities by enabling new escape routes or points of attack.

These are all suggestions, mind, but I think they're a lot more in line with what you imagined your character to be than the current kit. I hope this helps.

Hey, internet cut out. I will add type my tweaks!

The passive I feel is a little crowded. I usually try to make my champ passives have some correlation (if that makes sense). Mine related to healing mainly. I think his should relate to the damage. Honestly, I love the Thresh hints in his passive, but instead of armor it is AD. Pretty cool.

The Q: I actually really like this. The fact that is has two forms is pretty unique. I also like that you balanced out his Q and his ult Q. Very smart.

The W: Only problem I see is that slow. That is crazy heavy. I mean, the highest I would make that slow is 65%, but besides I like everything else. Also, that is one crazy cooldown. I would start off at 16 or 15. Not even Syndra has a 20 cd on her E in the beginning.

The E: Pretty balanced. He gets more damage and speed, while losing movement and armor. Depending on the amount of health received back, this could either be OP or Balanced.

The Ult: Honestly, a perfectly fine Ult in my opinion. His isn't Godlike, he is just perfectly balanced.

I would give his kit a 9 / 10

*It's unique

*Balanced

*Works / Flows nicely

His personality is great. The backstory I like. It gives me a good idea about who he is. I just would like to know how his undying anger was born. I mean, I can guess where it came from, but besides that it's good. I also personally love the interactions you added. They are a nice touch.

Personality: 10/10

Overall: 9.5 / 10

ok but think about this.. you are a raven and you join pre-existing games that have swain in them and you just follow the swain around and do the abilities

I like it, as an Idea, my only irk is that he looks like an auto attack melee assassin with no gapclosers... and that irks me? Is he ranged and Im missing something?

Okay hold on to your bottom, this is gonna be wild.

First off, I like the name, Raven Crowe does sound pretty edgy, but he seems like a edgy character, so all is K.

Second off, my inner gameplay spirit is screaming his passive is broken! Looking at it, you would just have to build a bit of ATK speed and then full tank and you will have so much shred and heal even Camille and Darius couldn't fight you! health scales out well late game, I recommend you make it a flat amount less than or equal too 5% and increase the duration of dot and make the % damage not stack, like red buff, only refreshes duration. I think it would do well thematically in that "Enemies under assault are continuously experiencing health decay." instead of "If this guy touches you, you lost the fight." Also change the heal to only champions, healing off minions is an unhealthy statistic.

Third off, I like his Q a lot, it emphasizes continuos dueling, but I would change it to after 3 autos, but its okay to be an edgelord and go against sets of three. :)

Fourth off, I personally think W should be a self casting circle instead of a cone, mostly because it adds more synergy around his Q, and would make more sense, thrusting his arms to the ground, causing it to corrode instantly, rotting the area around him. I also wouldnt totally be against the cone, if you could explain that he can control the rot, and why the ground would be cone like. also how long does this area last? Also I dont think it will be to hard to hit, with using E, then stacking and using Q to just hit W before pounding them even more.

Fifth off, I really like the name synergy with his E, I do not like the resistance shred. Mostly just becuase it seems just to good to just E and then W to shred, slow and essentially destroy your target. I also think this would be just to easy to use to run away, so if you really wanted to use it for engaging, or racing to the end, make it only get the MS moving towards champions, like Voli Q.

Sixth off, I gotta hand it to you for creativity with that ult, although I don't understand the whole "Losing control" part. I actually think this ult is a bit overpowered for a kit that looks like its for a dueler, but thats a personal preference.

Seventh off, I reserve most of my judgement on abilities as long until you add cooldowns and damage, but the concept is cool in itself. I think W could be low cooldown, Q can be no cooldown(but needs to be stacked again at least 4 times for that.) E needs a long cool down, and R needs a VERY long cool down to be balanced. Otherwise I really like this champ, Seems like a powerful solo diver/dualer!

Alright enough gameplay

This guy gives me Dracula + teen titans vibes. I am totally okay with edgelord Dracula, white skin red irises, which makes sense, like all the color of the dieing world was sucked out of him, the teen titan "I have three friends and we save worlds" vive does not mix to well with me. That's kinda counteracting the edgelord theme you have built up, and IMO i think he would better being a depressed solo traveler who knows his purpose, and it angers him.

His Interactions are gold, but he needs to interact with the other league edgelord, Aatrox. Add this please I need to see it.

Personality: 7/10, not coherent in lore with edgelord, he doesn't need friends. Balance: Cant really judge without cool downs and damage, but just looking at kit without that I am going to guess 5/10 His ult and passive are extremely overbearing. Coherence: 9/10 I think kit and lore match well.(W cone was the irk) Overall.. 7/10 I think this is a good start, a solid base edgelord dauler who steals life from other to live for thousands of years, world traveler and such.
