Reaching mastery lvl 7 with a champion should give you a summoner icon of that champion.
The icon can be a literal cutout from the champions base splash art.

I'd be down. I've been hoping for a while now that they'd make some more champion based icons. The ones we have are cool, but they're mostly based on skins rather than the champ.
Mastery 8 and above can unlock skin icons of that champ as well, updated with each new skin of course. Then it's like "Oh your fave champ doesnt have an ultimate skin? Just master it and bam, now ANY skin is ultimate skin!" (kinda) lol
You see, that'd make too much sense. Illegal by riot standards.
First thing's first, i think Riot is doing some work to allow us to customize our own profile pages with our own splash art of choice. Or that's how i interpreted it from a Rioter saying they'll put in a word to the team who is developing these features.
As for new mastery levels and rewards, i also think Riot has a few new things in mind but aren't ready to talk about yet. This sounds like a cool idea but i think we can make it even better, no?
honestly, Imo. I think currently Mastery lvl 7 is perfect. Its really not that hard to get as long as you put a little work into it.
I think champ icons should be a higher level reward. Give it to people who truly know the inside and out of that champ. It would make it an actual prize to those who put a lot of effort and practice into the champ and they would get to show off to everyone, "hey, look what i got from all my sweat and tears"
Honestly, the champion icon for mastery 7 is literally the easiest thing to do for the devs to implement and it would also be the most rewarding for the players.
I still don't get what are they waiting to implement it.

Ofc they will never do it. If it existed, everybody will use it instead of the shop icons. It kills diversity and reduces income for riot from rp. "Oh i see you have Kennen as your profile pic, you like playing Kennen? How very interesting! I would never have guessed!" (Hint: it's fucking right there in everybody's profile page). There is no point in it. Sry to be a buzzkill, but this is the most logical answer as to why it will never happen.

actually think this is a bad idea, people already dislike icons with champs faces because it's psycological warfare, if you see someone playing lets say god fist lee sin, has the rank 7 icon, you KNOW he's rank 7 before the game even starts, so your decisions are influenced, thats why you can't see enemy masteries, why would you get a special icon for something that's supposed to be unknown til the game starts and they get a kill?

I think it'd be an easy way for player's to say "Hey, this here is my pocket pick". Seems like a lot of fun to be able to show off your favorite to everyone! This is a great idea that would be fairly easy for riot to put in.

i think if they were gonna do that it should atleast cost the player 5 dollars to get it. so you riot can actually make some money from doing it too because summoner icon isn't that important not many people notice it
or they can get the icon when they have reached a certain mastery point with the champion they are playing

Yo I need this, would love to be able to have a one trick account and have the one trick portrait.
What'd be even better is if the icon granted an animation alongside the Mastery 7 animation. Like if you got the badge with the wings, but behind it is the icon of your champion (but only if you're currently using it).
Getting a Pentakill with 
and C-6'ing with her, for example. Doing that would pretty much feel like, and declare to the enemy team that, I DID THAT. I NOW ASSERT MY DOMINANCE!

Would be even greater if the icon could be one of choice from the existing skins. Or simply all icons from existing skins once the skin is owned. They have themselves made icons collectibles, so why not making the cutouts from any skin splashart available as a reward when reaching level 7.
Or classic skin when reaching level 7, and a skin splash icon when reaching level 8 (whenever that happens).
This might be the only way they actually make a
