Champion Concept: Viviaan - The Darkin Spear

ChaosReyn··1 votes·2,105 views

So, with me and this board not getting along, I had no choice but to email myself all the updates, delete my original post, and reset basically everything...All annoyances aside...let's try this again, now complete with ultimate and the trademark double A.

Lore: The Darkin prisons have been discovered across the land, their weaponized forms and power dwelling within cursed wellsprings. One such wellspring lay in the ruins of Icathia...and its captive was ironically released by its ancient enemy: The Void. Once a mindless, hungry creature, one of many in the vast legions of the Void, the being that fell into the wellspring was consumed and transformed by the Darkin named Viviaan. Single handedly, this Darkin warrior forced the Void itself to retreat to whence it came. And now, free from her prison, she seeks vengeance on the descendants of her captors.

I imagine her core form to look somewhat like this: somewhat grotesque, as it's a humanoid form made from taking over a voidspawn, but very limber and agile. However, imagine this picture with an exoskeleton that can be chipped away at, and you'll have what she'll look like most of the time. Also, with slightly more pronounced female features, as this one seems very...genderless. I'll probably catch hell for my wording there, but all the classy people know what I'm trying to get at here.

https://media-waterdeep.cursecdn.com/avatars/thumbnails/9/617/1000/1000/636329612473428943.jpeg

Artwork is not mine. It's from the D&D monster Manual, actually. I don't usually do pictures, but I couldn't really think of any way to actually describe this character without one.

Base Stats:

HP: 578 (+88) HP5: 7.5 (+.75) MP: 350 (+40) MP5: 8.5 (+.55) AD: 58(+3.2) AS: .474 (+.031) AR:30 (+3) MR: 32 (+1.5) MS: 345 RN: 145

Passive: Chitin Armor - Viviaan has a hard exoskeleton around her core form that chips away as damage is taken. While above 50% hp, Viviaan gains bonus armor and magic resist based off her current hp. While below 50%hp, she gains bonus attack and movement speed based off her missing hp. grants 1 armor and MR per 7/5/3% hp above 50% (upgrades at 7/13) or grants 1% bonus AS and MS for each 5/3/1% missing hp below 50%. note: there's probably a better way to word this...but basically, she will have more defensive stats that chip away to nothing as she approaches half hp. At half hp, she loses the defensive stats completely, but starts gaining offensive stats, which like Olaf reaches its peak at very low hp.

Q: Forceful Lance - Viviaan thrusts her spear forward, dealing damage in a 300 unit line in front of her and healing her for 30% of the damage dealt. 1s after the thrust completes, a shockwave covers a 550 unit line in the same direction, dealing lower damage and knocking enemies back 250 units. Viviaan can move immediately after her thrust, and if she move into the shockwave, is propelled 350 units in that same line. 1st hit: 60/80/100/120/140(+55%AD). 2nd hit: 40/55/60/75/90(+30%AD) Cost: 65/70/75/80/85 mana. Cooldown: flat 12s

W: Corrupted Spear - Toggle: Viviaan expends mana to add a corrosive Void poison to her basic attacks. The toxins deal bonus damage over 3s and lower armor by 1%, stacking up to 5x, then refreshes on each subsequent hit after. 10/20/30/40/50(+20%AD) per stack, total of 50/100/150/200/250(+100%AD at max stacks.) over 3s. Cost: 20/25/30/35/40 mana per strike.

E: Omega Strike - Viviaan charges forwards, at a rate of 2x/2.5x/3x/3.5x/4x her movement speed, towards a target destination in a straight line, stopping on the first champion or large monster hit, or on hitting terrain. The range for this ability is determined by how far she can walk in 1.5s at that pace. She deals a flat amount of damage to enemy minions and small monsters she passes through, and will deal damage to enemy champions or large/epic monsters equal to that flat damage + the distance traveled. 40/50/60/70/80(+35%AD) (+1%AD for each 100 units traveled) Cost: flat 100 mana. Cooldown: 26/23/20/17/14s.

R: Void Storm - After a 0.75s delay, Viviaan stabs her spear into the ground, briefly opening a Void Rift. The rift erupts in a torrent of Chitin, dealing damage over the next 4s and healing Vivion while she is in the area. If Viviaan was below 50% hp when this ability was first cast, she gains additional hp, equal to a percentage of the damage dealt. If she was above 50% hp during the initial cast, she falls to 50% hp, shedding her chitin armor, and amplifies the damage of this ability by the amount of hp she lost in casting this ability. 250/400/550(+70%AD) over 4s. Heals for 10% of Viviaan's max hp over 4s. if over 50% hp: Viviaan cuts her hp bar to 50% hp, adding damage to the storm equal to 20/30/40% of the lost hp over the duration. if under 50% hp: gains an additional 15/25/35% of damage dealt. Cost: 100/125/150 mana. Cooldown: 200/170/140s.

Don't worry I'll still be the first one to post on this thread.

Right...to try and transfer most of the questions from the previous thread to here:

  • Darkins are essentially former Ascended (also known to some as pseudo-Aspects) that lost their way after the fall of Azir (Darkin literally means "The Fallen" according to the wiki) and basically ended up going evil, until some mages eventually bound and imprisoned them inside their own weapons. Now, they live parasitically through the wielders, fighting for control of the holder's mind but also granting them vastly increased power and lifespan. Aatrox has taken over his vassel long ago...but if the host dies, Aatrox will once again be trapped in his blade. Kayn/Rhaast settle this mind-fight mid game. Varus is strange, as it's some sort of 3 way symbiosis that his hosts are not fond of, but fine with, since it kept them together. To date, nobody's covered what happens when a mindless target (like a voidling, which exists only to feed upon and consume worlds and has a very limited means of sentience) ends up being possessed by these Darkin...so I took a bit of creative liberty to say it was so one-sided that this particular Darkin got to break the rules a bit, completely re-writing this creature and making its body more like her own...though it's still a creature of the Void, so there's still a lot of key features that will remain...the grotesque core, the chitinous exoskeleton, and since a more sentient being now controls a being with this ability, the ability to rip holes in the fabric of the world, opening Void Rifts, something I doubt a voidling other than our gentleman concept creator would accomplish on its own.

  • As for your concerns with on-hit/attack speed builds: the reason the attack speed is low at the start is because her Q and E are going to be Pantheon-level oppressive in the earlier stages of the game. However...by the time an on-hit build would start becoming viable (so, during the mid game) her growth will catch up to the point of making it still pretty viable, and by late game, your atkspd/on-hit build would probably be the arguably stronger option, as a lot of the attack speed items also give bonus movement speed, which means your E with homeguards, ghost, actives and predator could probably launch you most of the way across the map and tactically nuke your first target, while your attack speed and ultimate can keep up with the rest of the fight. My main concern is in how overpowered her E can get, because without being able to have any way of testing it, I can't really judge that one fairly.

  • Yes, I remembered. Riot can destroy my ability to edit...but they can never take my mind. [slayer-jinx-wink]

One question: for her e is it the distance she can walk in 1.5 with her normal MS, or is it the "2x/2.5x/3x/3.5x/4x" of her MS? If it is the later one that means she can dash 340*4*1.5 = 2040 units?

I really like what you did there with the ultimate, but ultimately (haha, get it?), this will make her a bit too strong.

She has two mobility spells that adds up to quite a lot of distance. It is fine all by themselves thanks to her being a melee champion, but with her ultimate, her flank will be a bit werid.
Her ult is very similar to Rumble's (not similar similar, I'll explain) in which you don't need to hit anyway for it to be a good one. But... we want it to hit. How about make the Void Rift into a striaght line(90 degree to her e, she "slash" her spear) if this is cast during her e? I know this is even more similar to Rumble's r, but it will make her think twice before spamming her mobility (and it can be quite an interesting mechanic) I highly suggest lower the damage of her ult all the way down and boost the AD ratio (and add ad ratio for the healing/%max hp damage too), as of currently she can build full tank and still be very much relevant.

I love the lore. I thought darkins are weaker than some strong voidborns.... but I guess this darkin got lucky lol

ChaosReyn1 votes

yeah...tbh, that ult was my original concept revolving around your idea of making something based off which part of her passive she was on. I like it being a sort of zoning AoE...but at the same time, I have to give it to you that it just doesn't seem original enough.

It's more like a stationary crowstorm with benefits to it in place of the mobility...and at first, I was going to make it more like a huge Rupture (or to get more technical, I was going to make it like a Kimmimaru eruption of bones from the ground, only instead of bones, it'd be chitin) and decided that just seemed equally boring since its been done before.

her ult is sort of a placeholder ultimate...and at the same time, there's plenty of ways to counter it. The first of which being the obvious "push her out" and the second being the even more obvious "wait for 4 seconds, THEN kill her" I don't really think it's overwhelmingly strong...and to use it for extra damage means hard-setting yourself to 50%hp, meaning if people use either of those strategies, you're likely dead. Even with her Q, a 350 unit push really isn't all that far, and her E is almost certainly going to be on cd from in initiation. She most definitely has more ways in than out. Opting for the massive healing means she must be in the area to heal...so pushing her out if she's already low is pretty effective. But for now, I think what I'll do is lower its base damage and healing to force the decision to use it for damage or healing, instead of just giving her plenty of both.

Her E has a base range of her movement speed at the time of the cast multiplied by the corresponding number provided with rank. Meaning, with a movespeed oriented build, with all the actives, predator, and ghost, if you pop all of these things and then your E, you will fly off at the speed of sound and potentially go base to base...at the cost that you have to select your stopping point before you start (you cannot cancel once you have) and that you cannot steer, but will instead run in a straight line. In short, this ability will be extremely devastating, but only if you actually manage to hit something...and if you were aiming for that base to base shot and miss, you're sitting multiple towers deep in enemy territory with no real way out and a bunch of shocked and appalled enemies wanting instant karma for the heart attack you gave them on your way there.

well...it's still trying to be unstable in my editing...so I'll update it here:

  • R: Void Storm - Now does 250/40/550(+70%AD) over 4s and heals Viviaan for 5%(+1%/100AD) of her max hp over the duration as long as she's inside the aoe.

  • Below 50%: Viviaan now heals for 15/25/35% of the damage dealt in addition to her normal healing.

  • Above 50% Viviaan sets herself to 50% hp, and increases the damage of her ult by 20/30/40% of the health she sacrificed over the full duration.

This gives her the ability to still be played full tank and deal damage...though doing so means sacrificing a lot of her damage from other abilities and putting all into her ult, which can be easily avoided by simply not walking into the aoe. It also means that if she's building full AD/assassin mode, she can still gain a large percentage of her hp back...but she still has to stay in the aoe herself, and can still be cut down pretty easily through burst and grievous wounds.

  • E: Omega Strike - Now does 40/50/60/70/80(+35%AD) (+1%AD for each 100 units traveled).

Although it's hard to aim, I still feel like that's probably an instant one shot for almost anyone in the late game in a movespeed oriented build. A movespeed build should be fun, but it shouldn't OBLITERATE someone with a single ability...I want this to coordinate with your late game on-hit idea as well, since a lot of AS items also give MS, to provide an initial heavy burst, then finish them off through an overwhelming flurry of blows. I also want this to coordinate with teams as it's already more of a follow-up ability...unless you're feeling really confident in your "Leeroy Jenkins" down mid, I don't want this to just straight up explode anyone with less than 3k hp without any other investments.

pfft.

Just try making one. If you get the time, just sit down for a minute and actually write everything out. If you don't want to post it, or if you think it'll take forever, write it in a word document, and just copy/paste it when you're done. it's not really that it's difficult, more than it is time consuming and a pain to balance...as I'm sure you'll see in posts popping up already, the numbers game is by far the most painful. :P

Ah...

Not my art. D&D handbook, and more to describe a general idea than to actually lock anything in.

I actually very rarely use pictures. I prefer people to sort of find their own mental image of what they see the concept as, cause trust me, it looks like 10x cooler in your head...unless you're an actual artist, then from what I gather, it's about 20x cooler in your head, and you can never get the damn eyes to line up right...or so they say. xD

Gilgayu1 votes

How big is her ult?

It's hard for me to say anything without knowing that xP.

ChaosReyn1 votes

roughly the size of an amumu or fiddle ult, in that circular area. It starts with a brief delay/animation, and does its damage over 4s. Fiddle ult compared to this one does FAR more damage than hers does now unless she pops it near full hp (which puts it at near similar damage, while still allowing her to leave it in place and move)...but hers also gives her back hp while she's fighting in it, and has more versatility in giving her back a boatload more if she uses it later in a fight rather than sooner instead of popping it for the damage and retreating.

ChaosReyn1 votes

Now's probably a good time to note: Both Trox and Rhaast have a lot of ways to gain life in their kits, and especially their ults. Varus is an exception, but being a marksman, loves to rush item 3153 in his kit for attack speed and %hp lifesteal...putting a boatload of health sapping into his kit as an adc would be dangerous.

Gilgayu1 votes

Did you know the adc that rushes the most lifesteal, as far as I'm concerned, is kalista? item 3153 item 3072 item 3139 but she still heals close to nothing compared to other melee healers :(

ChaosReyn1 votes

Most Draven players started rushing either item 3812 or item 3072 , and a lot of Jhin and Cait players (mainly Jhin players) love item 3812 as a 2nd item after item 3095 for a guaranteed crit and run in bad matchups that pretty much allows them to mitigate the bleed effect that comes with a trade. Some still prefer IE for a second, and in a favorable game, ignore DD completely.

Many AD melee champs have intrinsic healing in some part of their kit. XZ's W, Darkins, Darius, WARWICK, and even Rakan (even though he counts as a ranged champ, he's more like a very far reaching melee than a true ranged champ) so it's not really surprising.

ChaosReyn1 votes

As a Caitlyn ADC "one trick" (meaning I prefer Cait whenever I'm bot, though I'm currently fed up with bot lane at the moment...) I strongly prefer the DD as a 2nd strategy particularly against AS laners, as playing aginst these burstier, more aggressive champions makes it pretty much irrelevant...but it's a lot easier to stay out of range of most of them.

Also as that guy, I royally hate fighting against Ezreal, MF and Kaisa players, because they sort of break the general rules of things...Ezreal and MF deal stupid amounts of damage from a similar range as you and it's decently hard to trade back with them...and Kaisa post 6 doesn't care about your strategy, being the only one who can fight you on equal terms as an AS champion in creating a massive shield, jumping right n top of you, and wiping you from existence in 0.5s assassin style.

(I royally hate Kaisa in lane...even with all the nerfs, they just don't accept that a 1trillion damage shield on a marksman is too damn much. >.>)

Gilgayu1 votes

If her ult is only fiddle's size (I thought it was camille's ult size), then it's pretty weak. The ult itself does not apply any type of cc, meaning it will be pretty easy to escape it. It's going to be really hard to use it to engage, so this means Viviaan (tbh I like the old name, but oh well) has to enter the fight only when it's about to end (in a way, it is similar to a weak katerina) How about making it slightly bigger (Camille's ult size? lol), but decrease the damage overall but increase the healing if Viviaan is in the zone. A while ago I was talking to some guy (if you want it I can link the thread) about a champion with some sort of reality marble (that cool thing from Fate/Stay Night), and I think this concept might as well work. Of course, if you think this is a good idea, Viviaan's ult probably need to be tweaked a lot.

By the way, I think her passive (the half where she gains ar and mr based on hp) should scale with her current ar and mr. Currently there are like 2 ways of building her (on-hit or full ad "assassin"), and that's really not a lot. By giving her tank build a little more power, she can build things like: item 3065 item 3047 item 3025 item 3800 item 3071 item 3153

ChaosReyn1 votes

I'll change it in my edits to add a little power back. I currently feel in her current iteration, she actually has a decent amount of viability playing as a full tank, it'd just be a bit more difficult. Running a Predator/Tanky page with Ghost/Flash, a solid amount of hp items (I'd say item 3742, item 3143, item 3065, item 3117, item 3800, and item 3053 would probably be my thoughts on tanky here) would make it pretty solid in terms of tanking potential, and a solid E/flash Q/R combo can deal massive damage and reposition her Q to push people trying to get past her back into her ult, but I definitely did think I overdid my nerf. xD

I also preferred my original name...but I feel it's sort of fan service in a respect, as it is true that Varus is the only one breaking the tradition of Darkins having a "double A" somewhere in their names.

ChaosReyn1 votes

I gave it most of its overall base power back, and added to the AD ratios. She wont gain as much hp back from being low and activating this while building tank, but will deal significantly more damage when doing so if she ults immediately and has the follow-up to keep them in the ult, while still passively gaining more from staying inside compared to her health-stealing counter-build

Conversely, she will gain a boatload of life back if she activates it later of a full AD setup, but doesn't really gain as much back as her tanky version without the bonuses and doesn't really gain as much of the damage from it as she gives up less hp overall.

Gilgayu1 votes

I think right now you can edit the thread, since for me the problem only lasted 1 day. ######(Is your analysis for my concept on its way ;)

ChaosReyn1 votes

It was still acting strange last night, so for now im gonna leave it.

You analysis will happen later today. I was planning on doing it yesterday, but to put it in the most vaguely polite way possible, all sorts of shit hit the fan at once, and I'm apparently working 12s until further notice...and getting up before dawn, which is rough on a 2nd shifter. xD

Give me a moment to re-orient my situation.

So...I've figured out that in editing, the board automatically changes certain symbols to fancy symbol texts. If I leave those symbol texts, the client wont update. Also, you were spot on about spacing, Gil.

Gilgayu1 votes

lol, I wasn't pushing you or anything. It's just that I have a tendency to forget things, so I thought perhaps you forgot since you have so much going on for you (kicking out people, working, battle with boards formatting, while I just have to go to school xP).

I mean, personally I have like 20 concepts of others in my bookmark that I want to check out, but... you know, new ones just keep popping up ;)

About the "symbol texts": It happens a lot when you first type something in a thread or copy and paste something from word or docs. Those "symbols" are basically strings(good luck learning programming by the way xD) that allows you to show those symbols without them actually in affect. For example, >This doesn't show up as a box.

This thread explains it pretty well (you probably saw it, but it was updated a couple times).

good luck with everything.
