Ijόs, the Celestial Warden Touchstone of the Stars Exemplar of the Cosmos

Lore:

Born alongside Aurelion Sol and other celestial beings at the time of creation, Ijόs was tasked with guiding and guarding the other celestials. For time immemorial she guided the celestials and spoke with them without ceasing. Only the Star Dragons ignored her attempts at guidance. They were so conceited that they pushed Ijόs aside and keeping only their own council. So instead Ijόs began to speak with the stars themselves, guiding them, helping them shine bright after their creators, the Start Dragons, moved on.

Ijόs watched as the darkness was filled with almost innumerable stars. She filled her life with getting to know each and every star in existence. One day, new stars stopped forming, no new life was to be found for Ijόs to speak with. Before long, by cosmic standards, the stars she took upon herself to guide and protect began to fade. Without the care of Aurelion Sol, who shunned her from the beginning of time, the stars were dying. As her charge slowly dimmed and died around her, she became increasingly depressed. It was her duty to watch and guide the celestials, but not to interfere. Centuries passed, and Ijόs began to lose all hope that Aurelion sol would return.

One day, a lesser Celestial named Soraka sought guidance, but she disregarded Ijόs’s pleas for her to turn from the violence she was contemplating. Drawing on the power of Ijόs, Soraka betrayed both Ijόs and her own calling. The terror, frustration, and helplessness Soraka felt at the time of her violent betrayal backlashed at Ijόs, filling her mind with the same tainted emotions at the time of Soraka’s fall from the celestial plane. Ijόs cut off her mind from Soraka, but it was too late.

The sadness began to overwhelm Ijόs as the stars faded and her own celestials began to disappear. To avoid being swallowed by the darkness, she set out to find Aurelion Sol and find a way to return him to his stars. She found him on a primitive world, fighting petty battles for simple creatures. She discovered his bondage to the will of Targon, but she felt no pity for the egotistical celestial, only for the stars his arrogance had murdered.

She was not so far gone as to destroy Targon for him, nor could she allow him to do the same. Ijόs decided that the only way to save the stars was to stay on Valoran until a peaceful solution was found. Ijόs feared in the back of her mind that Soraka’s corruption might do more harm than good if she could not control her own tainted mind.

Personality:

Ijόs (pronounced Yohs) is an ancient celestial charged with guiding the celestials. After an eternity of being alone and shunned by her own kind, and after being exposed to the mind of a fallen celestial, her depression is twisting her mind. Instead of guiding those she can, she risks everything to find Aurelion Sol to return him to his work. Her personality is a socially awkward woman, almost at arrogant as Aurelion Sol, but not nearly as blunt about it. She is disdainful of the fallen celestials and of the creatures of Valoran for having corrupted 3 Celestials (in her eyes it is Valoran and Sol’s egotism that caused the fall of the stars). She is very determined to accomplish her task, even if it destroys her and/or Valoran in the process, though she has enough control to try and save Valoran for now. She is a very unstable very powerful Celestial being. She also takes no responsibility for her own downfall, blaming Sol, Soraka, and Targon instead.

A great skin would be Dark Star Ijόs, in the event that her depression takes over and all her light dies.

Quotes:

Quotes are similar to Sol and Soraka, being the third true celestial besides Bard to stay in Valoran.

“By the power of the stars” “For the stars” “Pure starfire” “This little world’s greed has dimmed the cosmos”

Taunts for Sol and Soraka: “The egotism of star dragons may yet bring down the heavens.” “And so another celestial falls to your betrayal”

Her jokes should be sad, not funny. And perhaps a bit dark. Like Diana’s jokes, but even Ijόs doesn’t think she is funny.

Appearance:

Ijόs looks like a hovering, jagged diamond, shaped roughly like a pointed star. She has a bubble of light around her (her shield). Everything about her shines with blue-white celestial light. She is about the size of a yordle. All her spells look like the surface of the stars (flares, spots, fire, etc.), but cast in the same blue-white starlight.

Abilities:

Passive: Stellar Touchstone

All bonus health from all sources increases her maximum shield instead of her health. Healing effects restore her shield instead of her health.

Q: Flare

Ijόs fires a solar flare in a straight line, slowing all enemies hit by 5% + (1.5% per 100 current Shield) and burning them for 20/30/40/50/60 + (5% current shield) + (1.0 AP) magic dmg over 4 seconds and marking them with Starfire for 6 seconds.

CD: 16/14/12/10/8 Range: 450 Cost: 10% current shield

W: Corona

Active: Ijόs shields target ally for (10% current shield) + (.5 AP) for 6 seconds, and healing them for (2.5% current shield) + (.25 AP) over 6 seconds.

Passive: When an ally’s basic attack hits an enemy marked with Starfire, they are granted a shield equal to (1% of Ijόs’s current shield) for 3 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. If Ijόs’s basic attack hits an enemy marked with Starfire, the mark is consumed and Ijόs restores 2.5% of her maximum shield. This effect is doubled for enemy champions.

CD: 16/15/14/13/12 Range: 850 Cost: 10% maximum shield

E: Pulsar

Ijόs pulses with cosmic energy, granting vision in a small area for 4 seconds. Enemies hit take 45/60/75/90/105 + (15% current shield) + (.2 AP) magic dmg and marking enemy champions with Starfire for 6 seconds. Enemy champions looking in Ijόs’s direction are also blinded for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds.

CD: 32/28/24/20/16 Range: 650/700/750/800/850 Cost: 15% maximum shield

R: Fallen guardian

Ijόs becomes invulnerable dashes to an ally at great speed, crashing into the ground at ally’s location. Nearby allies are shielded for 150/250/350 + (10% current shield) + (.25 AP). Nearby enemies are stunned for 1.5 seconds and take 75/125/200 + (2.5% current shield) + (.75 AP) Magic damage and marking enemy champions with Starfire for 6 seconds. Cannot be cast while in combat.

CD: 180/150/120 Range: Global Cost: Free

Gameplay:

Base health: 1 Health growth: 0/level Base shield: 625 Shield growth: 30/level

Ijόs is a support tank that excels at sustaining her allies as long as she can sustain her own power. Her constant shields require her to mark enemies with Starfire and for her allies to attack those targets before she uses them to restore her own shield. Her power is based on her current shield strength, and her shield serves as her hp bar and her resource bar at the same time. Keeping her shield bar full will maximize her potential in a fight, but each spell will weaken every spell cast afterward if she does not consume her Starfire marks, which reduces the amount of shields her allies can gain. Only Ijόs’s Q marks non-champions with Starfire, and its short range is risky to use early game.

Laning is a constant battle of keeping her friends alive while sustaining her own power. Her key harass is her aoe blind, which can help her team win trades, and her Starfire passive for allowing her ally to gain constant shields throughout a duel, especially late game.

Teamfights are all about being the tanky support, but each hit she takes will reduce her potential to save her allies, so she still has to consume Starfire marks to survive. Her only had cc is her ult, but she can’t use it while in combat. She must stay back in order to use it at the perfect time, or dash to save an ally far away.

She might have potential in a solo lane or even in the jungle, but her shield can only be used on other allies. Her sustain should be able to keep her alive, although her clear speed and ability to clear waves would be fairly slow.

Core items: Frost Queens Embrace, Locket of the Iron Solari, Spirit Visage, Mercury Treads

Offensive items: Rylai’s Crystal Scepter, Liandry’s Torment, Protobelt, Sunfire cape

Defensive items: Warmog’s armor, Randuin’s Omen, Banshee’s veil

Let me know what you think of Ijós! She was very fun to put together between her lore and her celestial abilities. Hopefully a Rioter will notice one of my ideas someday :)
