Ankmeses, Wielder of the Ascended Blade
Ankmeses, Wielder of the Ascended Blade
Ankmeses, the son of a merchant in a village just outside the Sai desert. On one fateful day, he prepared the caravan to help his father carry goods to the newly risen Shurima Capital. A wealthy man from the village had paid for many Elujrav'i' and Saih'kharash'i to help transport all the villages' gifts to
Azir. His father forbade him to travel with the caravan, and he was left behind. Ankmeses would only hear of his father in tales, for the Xer'Sai queen herself,
Rek'Sai, had ravaged the entire caravan. none survived. With the wealth of his village lost to the desert, his people migrated out of Shurima through the Mogron Pass. Most of his people dispersed to Demacia and Noxus, but Ankmeses had heard tale of a wondrous city north, Piltover.
Ankmeses found a job working with a techmaturgical inventor named Corin Reveck. Corin's ambitions seemed sedated by his greatest creation
Orianna. Ankmeses recognized his talent and lack of current direction as an opportunity to advance himself. While working as an apprentice, Ankmeses gave ideas to Corin about ways to help Shurima Tribes combat the harshness of Shurima. More specifically he wanted ways to avenge his father and kill
Rek'Sai. Corin created devices that would make the Xer'Sai unable to feel their foot steps in the sand. He made gliders that used the heat of the desert to stay afloat, and he even built devices that would turn sand into water for travelers. Ankmeses was slowly gathering the tools he needed to ambush and kill
Rek'Sai.
After Corin had created a plethora of devices, Ankmeses proposed that he travel with them back to Shurima to see how they performed and how much the Shurima people would pay for them. Unbeknownst to Corin, Ankmeses would not perform this task. He traveled immediately to the Sai desert in search of
Rek'Sai, until he found her. Using all the technology Corin had created, Ankmeses snuck up on a sleeping
Rek'Sai. there in her burrow he placed his finger on the cannon trigger to end her for good and avenge his father. The cannon let loose, but there was no corpse to be found. She had not dug away either. In fact, she had, in that fateful moment, been summoned to the League of Legends. Confused, Ankmeses departed the desert. Realizing that his mission was over for the time being, he traveled to the tribes to fulfill his promise to Corin. He would need his trust if he were to use the equipment and try again.
Upon his return, Ankmeses found an anxious Corin ready to hear the results. The Shurima people found his inventions desirable and offered high quantities for them. Ankmeses decided to probe Corin for information, and told him of his encounter with
Rek'Sai. He made it seem, though, as if he stumbled across her lair. Corin told him that the last conflict resolution between Demacia and Noxus had her summoned to fight for Noxus. This visibly upset Ankmeses and he stormed out of Corin's lab, though Corin knew not why.
Ankmeses, distraught, roamed the streets of Piltover until an object caught his eye. He was far from Shurima, but a stranger wearing an amulet of Shurima design was there. He approached the stranger to ask him about the amulet.
Ezreal told him of his expeditions into Shurima lands, and of the discovery of the magical amulet he used in the Fields of Justice. Ankmeses had met the perfect person to get the information he needed. He learned from
Ezreal all about summoners and champions, the fields of justice, and the league. Ankmeses finally asked him if there were more artifacts like the one he found in the desert.
Ezreal said that most of the tombs have been raided, but the newly risen city has been untouched. He said, he tried to enter, but
Azir's sand soldiers are blocking all from entering the city. This gave Ankmeses and idea.
Ankmeses proposed a second trip to Corin, who agreed without hesitation. His profits from the Shurima inventions would likely fund his retirement in only a matter of years. Ankmeses set off for the great city of Shurima. When he arrived, he found the sand soldiers of
Azir's army guarding the city. He approached them, and to his surprise, they moved to let him pass. The sand soldier handed him a scroll, "All rightful sons and daughters of
Azir are welcomed Home." He perused the city for days, and found no artifacts of magical properties. He had to search deeper. He had to search the center of the city, the Circle of Ascension. As he approached the center of the city, a second wave of sand soldiers stood guard. These would not let him pass. He proclaimed he wished to meet the emperor, but they would not let him through. Knowing he would likely make an enemy of
Azir, if he found out, Ankmeses made a gamble and used Corin's inventions to turn the sand soldiers to water. As they washed away he dashed through their line. He stopped running though when he realized he wasn't being chased. As he turned back, he realized how truly non-sentient the sand soldiers were. The liquefied soldiers had reformed of dry sand, standing post as if nothing had happened.
He searched the Circle of ascension until he found a peculiar room beneath the circle's platform. He found what looked like both library and smithy. Although the order of the chamber was lacking, likely due to the collapse of the city, there were still remnant blades and blueprints. The center of the room seemed to focus the Sun Disc's beam onto a magical looking anvil. Most of the blades were mundane or only pieces to be forged into actual weapons. Until he found a blade of peculiar design. The hilt and guard were complete, but the blade edge was only half. It was built like a double-sided short sword, but half the blade was completely missing. He examined the blade and determined that it was just as mundane as the rest of them, until. As Ankmeses set the blade on the ground the tip was touched by the Sun Disc's beam. The sword sprang to life in a bright flash. The blade was whole, not with metal, but raw energy. He picked the blade up and was filled with strange visions.
In his visions an Imperial guard was giving him trouble over the completion of the blade. Ankmeses was seeing the blacksmith's memory from the blacksmith's eyes. "The blade is almost complete,
Azir will have his weapon when he steps off the platform. This isn't my first ascended weapon kid," said the
blacksmith. Suddenly a commotion was heard above the chamber. The emperor's objections could be heard as Xerath stepped into the circle of ascension. The blacksmith, sensing something wasn't right, worked feverishly to finish the weapon, so as to arm his emperor. He would be too late. As he turned to leave the chamber, to bring his emperor the blade, the whole city collapsed, and the vision ended.
Ankmeses had found an ascended weapon. One intended for the emperor. He could return the weapon, to the favor of his Emperor, or... he could use this weapon against
Rek'Sai. His decision had been made. The vision granted him understanding of the weapon's properties. He left the chamber only to hear
Azir's
entourage approaching. Ankmeses grasped the sword hilt and willed himself to the outskirts of the city. The sword obeyed and Ankmeses felt himself being pulled through space and time to his destination. "Amazing!" He thought to himself. He would use this technique to cross the desert and make the trip back to Piltover. He intended to show his discovery to
Ezreal and enter the League to kill
Rek'Sai.
His plan would not work quite like he intended though. Traveling north from Mogron pass, he was confronted by Noxian raiders. Knowing they would likely liberate him of his discovery, he felt he had no choice but to fight. While not a skilled swordsman himself, the knowledge of the blade's properties caused him to believe he could fight them. He was right. As he drew his sword so did they with bows as well. He willed the swords energy to protect him and the arrows bounced away as if they had hit stone. He started to run. He knew his next move would require them to be grouped together. As they took chase, his wish was granted and they formed into a cluster behind him. Willing all the energy he could, he commanded the blade to expel its energy at his foes. The arc tore his pursuers apart, and freed Ankmeses from the threat. Reveling in his victory, Ankmeses gazed down at his blade only to be surprised. The blade now looked as mundane as when he first held it. No energy flowed in it. He thought
maybe the blade requires will, but all his will did not regenerate the glowing blade. He held the hilt firmly and willed himself to a location in the visible distance...nothing. By all he could tell, the blade had stopped working. Hope faded in Ankmeses, but he knew the bright minds of Piltover might offer insight. He sought out
Ezreal.
Ankmeses knocked at the door to
Ezreal's house. It wasn't hard to find considering his celebrity status.
Ezreal tried to shoo him away from behind the door, as if he was some other awestruck fan. "I found something in Shurima you might like to see," came Ankmeses response. Having peaked
Ezreal's interest, and he recognized Ankmeses Shurima accent, he let him in. "I need your help. This blade had incredible properties when i found it." "Had?" responded
Ezreal. "Yes. After i used it a few times to leave the city and fight off raiders, the blade seemed to die." "That doesn't seem like a good weapon to me then." "Could you look at it at least?" Ankmeses asked. "Sure, let's see it." Ankmeses reached into his bag and pulled out the sword. The sword sprang to life in his hand. "It seems you don't have a problem at all, Ankmeses." Indeed, he felt the blacksmith's memories again and the sword spoke to him its techniques. Ankmeses began explaining the sword's properties to
Ezreal. "A truly ascended weapon,"
Ezreal said with wonderment. "Is there any way i could have it? For my collection?" He asked.
Ankmeses declined, but he sensed that
Ezreal wasn't asking as much as politely demanding.
Ezreal's amulet sprang to life and Ankmeses willed the sword to protect him. He would have to be reserved with his use of the weapon. he still didn't understand how it gets its energy.
Ezreal let out a flurry of blows, but the weapon absorbed all of them. Not wanting to kill
Ezreal, only incapacitate him, Ankmeses used the swords last communicated ability to disorient him. the sword expelled its energy to propel the blade with concussive force towards
Ezreal. The blade edge connected with
Ezreal's body leaving a large, but shallow, gash and staggering him considerably. Ankmeses stepped away towards the door.
Ezreal recovered to unleash another flurry of attacks, but the amulet did not respond. "I feel drained," he said. He realized his defeat, and the shame of his actions as he sat in his chair. "I know now where your sword gets its energy Ankmeses. It draws it from magical beings around it. You are likely magic-less by nature. That is why the sword went dead in your hands. in the hand of an ascended, it would have endless energy, but you need to be near magic to recharge the sword. I'm sorry for trying to take that from you. I hope you can forgive me." Ankmeses analyzed the words
Ezreal had said, "Help me enter the Sai desert and kill
Rek'Sai to avenge my father." "HA! and how do you plan to survive all the Xer'Sai in the Sai desert after you kill her. It's a suicide mission. You would be better off joining the League of Legends to fight her alone on the Fields of Justice."
Ezreal responded. "Then i'll do just that," And Ankmeses left
Ezreal's house to join the League.
Champion Profile: (updated to reflect relevant changes suggest by replies)
Ankmeses is a human with no magical properties. because of this, his defensive stats are relatively low. He requires defensive items and effective use of his ultimate (explained later) to defend himself. His lack of magical properties means that he produces no mana naturally, which leads into his passive. Health: 400 (+20) H-Regen: 5 (+.5) Mana: 500 (+80) M-Regen: Disabled Range: 175 AD: 50 (+3) AS: .644 (+3%) Armor: 10 (+1) MR: 10 (+0) Move Speed: 350
(P) Mana Drain: Ankmeses has no natural mana regen, and cannot receive mana from items. The only way he can get mana is from the fountain and his proximity to other champions. Ankmeses passively drains mana from his opponents. The closer Ankmeses is to an enemy the quicker mana is drained. (Units that do not use mana still provide mana to Ankmeses, but do not suffer the disadvantage of losing their own mana. this is because the blade feeds off their magical energy regardless, even if they don't use it in the form of mana.) Ankmeses drains 5-10 mana per second from enemies depending on proximity (5 at 500; 10 at/below 175) and gains 15-30 per second respectively.
(Q) Mana Flash: Ankmeses channels the sword's mana in order to travel through time and space to a location on the map. Mana cost is relative to distance traveled and mana efficiency scales with AP. Mana cost is exponential and grows significantly as the distance becomes greater. Cooldown is 5 sec.
(W-toggle) Accelerated Blows: While toggled on, basic attacks consume mana(per hit) to deal 33%AP as magic damaged.
(E-charge) Crescent Strike: While holding E, Ankmeses charges mana into the blade. When E is released an energy crescent is released from the blade dealing damage relative to the mana charged into the blade. cost is equal to mana used to charge. is a cone based skillshot, similar to
Chogath's Feral Scream. Scales with AP. cooldown 7 sec. Ankmeses can move normally while charging, and emits a glow to show that he is charging his blade.
(R-toggle) Mana Shield: While toggled on, all damage received by Ankmeses consumes mana instead of health. The sheild resistances are only based off an AP ratio granting armor and magic resist at 1 armor/MR per 10 AP. If damage to mana shield brings Ankmeses to zero mana, it enters a 60 second cooldown.
I came up with the idea for this champion when i was playing a champion without teleport. i thought to myself, "i wish i could hop the map right now. i'd even take a huge mana hit for it" so i spent a few days trying to come up with a set of abilities that i think would balance each other out but provide some unique functionality. So the fact that Ankmeses does not produce his own mana, means he is reliant on being in close proximity to other champions for his abilities. I imagined him being built AD, but made his abilities all scale off AP for balance and to increase build variety. His Q means that if he has enough mana, he can literally jump the map, or at least he is intended to have that kind of range. the down side is that, he expends all mana to jump that far. better make sure your cross map gank victim isn't OOM. Staggering Blows was a CC ability designed to give his AD builds some viability. between his passive and staggering blows's silence, he is a mage nightmare, but a marksman will have no problem with him. I think that balances out his anti-mage nature. Cresent strike is his poke ability. you consume as much mana as you want with each cast. want to get that minion out of auto range? cast E quick to use little mana and get the gold. Want to completely annihilate your enemy with some burst range? Hold E until you are OOM and watch them fall (hopefully). Mana Shield is a compensatory ability. by making his base defensive stats lower than Helmet Bro he is squishy by nature. Mana Shield is that gamble ability that could save you, or make you OOM when you really need mana. this ability probably seems broken in team fights where his passive will grant seemingly endless defensive stats, but he has to have some major strength. even if he does drain your entire team of mana, any ADC not reliant on mana can still do damage. Unless he's fed on damage items, you shouldn't need to worry. and, if you blast him down, he has no mana regen to escape with so enjoy your kill.
I look forward to your opinions on my champion idea. i'll caveat this post by saying this. Any resemblance to another MOBA character is purely coincidental. i have only played LoL in the MOBA genre and would have no way of stealing this idea from another MOBA.
thank you.
