Akken'dis, the Voice of Heroes

Have you ever wondered what the dead have to say? Akken'dis knows. Akken'dis is a savage, anthropomorphic lizard from deep within the jungles of Kumungu. Having been spawned from the same magics that birthed Wukong, Rammus, and presumably other beastmen like Rengar, Akken'dis was lucky enough to befall upon an ancient temple within the darkness of the jungles. It was there he made his pact with the dead. It was there he lifted the sacred instrument, and sought to spread the tales of the heroes who died in Kumungu, and the wars fought over it.

Akken'dis is a Marksman/Support champion who inspires his allies to greatness with his own prowess in battle. Blessed by the souls of the departed, Akken'dis wields a Bullroarer, a magical instrument that doubles as his weapon. The Bullroarer is a plank of wood, precisely cut and inscribed with runes, that is attached to a string. When spun, the Bullroarer vibrates, and sings a song of it's own. It is these songs that inspire allies, frighten enemies, and give Akken'dis his spiritual power.

Friends - Rengar MonkeyKing Kindred

Rivals - Khazix Teemo

Health: 552 (+83 p/lvl) Health Regen: 6.2 (+.65 p/lvl) Mana: 332.4 (+40 p/lvl) Mana Regen: 7.832 (+.6 p/lvl) Range: 530 Attack Damage: 51.25 (+3 p/lvl) Attack Speed: .628 (+3% p/lvl) Armor: 26.12 (+3.42 p/lvl) Magic Resist: 30 (+0 p/lvl) Movement Speed: 335

Passive: Spiritual Bullroarer

Akken’dis attacks with a Bullroarer, a magical instrument tied to the spirits of the afterlife. After Akken’dis attacks, or after he casts Bloody Sweep, he spins the Bullroarer above his head for 3 seconds, renewing if he continues attacking. Allies who hear the Bullroarer gain buffs depending on Akken’dis’ bonus Attack Speed, and enemies who hear the Bullroarer and are damaged by Akken’dis’ basic attacks or abilities are marked as _Intimidated _ for 3 seconds, or for as long as Akken’dis swings the Bullroarer. Champions can hear the Bullroarer by being within normal vision range of Akken’dis (Vision from a Ward does not allow you to hear the Bullroarer).

0%: When Akken’dis slays a unit with a basic attack,** Bloody Sweep**, or Song of the Fallen, his Bullroarer leaves behind a crescent of blood, healing Akken’dis and nearby allied champions for .2%(+.2% p/lvl) of their maximum health.

20%: Allies who hear Akken’dis’ Bullroarer gain 5% movement speed when moving towards enemy champions.

40%: Akken’dis’ allies who hear the Bullroarer gain 10% Attack Speed.

60%: Akken’dis’ allies who hear the Bullroarer gain 15% Tenacity.

Akken’dis melee attacks anyone within melee (175) range, dealing only 70% normal damage. Enemies attacked in melee cannot be marked as Intimidated, and melee attacks will not inspire allies.

Q: Bloody Sweep - 550 Range - 65/70/75/80 Mana - 10/9/8/7/6/5 Second Cooldown

Akken’dis swings his Bullroarer in a large semicircle in front of him, dealing 80/110/140/170/200 (+60% bonus AD) physical damage to enemies struck by the blade. Struck enemies are also slowed by 20/25/30/35/40% for 1.75 seconds. Enemies already Intimidated have their armor reduced by 5/10/15/20/25%.

The blade only connects on the outside of the semicircle. For every enemy that is within the semicircle, but is missed by the blade, the spirits will pity Akken’dis with +3% bonus movement speed. Using this ability makes Akken’dis spin his Bullroarer.

W:** Incite Rage **- 700 Range - 50 Mana - 15/13/11/9/7 Second Cooldown

Akken’dis boasts to enemies of an ally’s glory, inspiring the ally into a prideful rage. The ally gains 10% bonus movement speed and deals an additional 10/20/30/40/50 (15% bonus AD) physical damage with every basic attack for 4 seconds. Enemies that aren’t Intimidated become so if damaged by the inspired ally. If Akken'dis and the enraged ally both basic attack an Intimidated enemy, the enemy flees in terror for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds. Enemies can only be effected by the fear once every 7 seconds.

E: Savage Roar - 70 Mana - 17/15/13/11/9 Second Cooldown

Akken’dis sings a roaring song that echoes through the spirit world, dealing 60/100/140/180/220 (+60% bonus AP) magic damage to all enemies within his basic attack range. Intimidated enemies are also knocked back to the edge of his basic attack range. If he uses this ability during Song of the Fallen, the radius increases to match it.

R: Song of the Fallen - 100 Mana - 160/130/90 Second Cooldown

Akken’dis invokes ancient heroes, sending him into a spiritual rage and surrounding himself with energy. Akken’dis instantly liberates himself of all crowd control effects (Except suppresses) and he swings his Bullroarer in an extended (625) circle around himself, damaging anyone caught in the Bullroarer’s way, dealing 120% of normal basic attack damage to enemies struck by the blade, and normal basic attack damage to enemies within the Bullroarer’s radius, once every 1/.75/.5 seconds. Lasts 7 seconds. Akken’dis has full movement while swinging the Bullroarer, and can use all of his abilities except Bloody Sweep. Enemies struck by the Bullroarer's blade activate on-hit effects, such as Life Steal.

Akken’dis’ allies who hear the Bullroarer gain the benefits from Spiritual Bullroarer as soon as the ability is cast, regardless of whether or not Akken’dis is attacking. All enemies who can hear Akken’dis are marked as Intimidated, and are marked as such for the duration of Song of the Fallen.

**“Many souls have died within Kumungu. I give them voice!” **

Playstyle:

Akken'dis is a Marksman/Support who can play well in either role. As a Marksman, he buffs his allies in order to keep himself safe. As a support, he buffs the carries so they can pave the way to victory. One thing is universal - Akken'dis can NOT afford for foes to get close. His close range attacks do not Intimidate enemies or swing his unique Bullroarer, thus leaving his other spells much less powerful. He would not do well in a solo lane; without an ally to use Incite Rage on, or allies to take advantage of** Spiritual Bullroarer**, his power is greatly reduced. Much like Kalista, he's very reliant on having a teammate nearby.

If he can keep enemies at range, however, Akken'dis is able to keep himself safe, for a time. The knock back from Savage Roar keeps enemies just within basic attack range, and works similarly to Syndra's Scatter the Weak. The slow from Bloody Sweep, while tricky and difficult to land, can also help keep enemies at bay. If the target is Intimidated, then Bloody Sweep will also add the benefits of an armor shred, allowing him to help bring down tough tanks. Incite Rage, while useless to Akken'dis alone, greatly helps allies. The bonus damage is very welcome, especially on other AD characters, like Assassins or other Marksmen, who have built armor penetration. The fear helps keep said foes at bay, provided Akken'dis and the ally are close together, and gives a nice, indirect buff to Nocturne.

In the Support role, Akken'dis uses Incite Rage to empower his vulnerable Marksman with both movement speed and bonus damage. Buying a Relic Shield allows Akken'dis and the Marksman to take advantage of the heal from Spiritual Bullroarer, while also allowing Akken'dis to keep up with gold. He can also support his ally with Bloody Sweep's armor shred. Unlike other Supports, however, Akken'dis benefits from damage items. Outside of Face of the Mountain and Sightstone, Akken'dis can build The Black Cleaver to support his ally's damage, and reach his Attack Speed thresholds with a Statikk Shiv (Which builds from Avarice Blade, for gold gen), and Berserker's Greaves. Akken'dis becomes a damage threat as a Support, and one that a full AD team can especially appreciate.

Appearance and Theme:

I do not own any pictures or videos in this post. All rights go to whoever made these.

Akken'dis is an anthropomorphic lizard with a savage, sort of tribal, motif. He would wear skins and armor crafted of wood. He would have perhaps spiritual idols and fetishes hanging from his body. I have a few pictures that can serve as an inspiration for visuals. I will post links, since posting all of the pictures would make the post far too big. See them here, here, and here.

Akken'dis' voice, while melodic, would seem almost broken, as if he were new to the language. His speech carries in a reptilian drawl, and he ever so slightly drags out his S's. Inspiration for his voice should come from Variks, from Destiny, Naga, from Warcraft, and Parsletongue, from the Harry Potter films. His voice, despite having said drawl, would be melodic and soothing, rather than sinister and angry. No one likes to portray reptiles as that, though, so there aren't any references I could find for that. Use your imagination!

Lastly, here's a Bullroarer, if you want to see one. Here's another one. Akken'dis' is much bigger and intricate, but that's the real life instrument. Here's a video of one. In real life, though, they don't sound nearly as awe inspiring and terrifying as Akken'dis'.

NEW: Summoner Crystalitar has been kind enough to make sketches of what Akken'dis could look like. Here's an idea of what he'd look like in a base skin, and two skin ideas, one called "Streetgang" (Gives me a "Vandal Twitch vibe) and "Pool Party". A thousand thanks to him/her for sketching these out, I love the hell out of them ^_^

Synergizes With:

  • Bard, the Wandering Caretaker - Yay! A bard and Bard! Akken’dis lacks a lot of escape mechanisms for himself, and those he does have are hard to land. Luckily, Bard’s passive and** Cosmic Binding** provide much needed protection for the Voice of Heroes. In addition,** Incite Rage** synergizes well with Bard’s passive, ensuring he gets off his meep empowered attacks as fast as possible, while also providing themselves with more peel. I wonder what sort of tales Akken’dis shares to inspire even a cosmic creature?
  • Braum, the Heart of the Freljord - Braum loves all of his allies, even the scaly, reptilian ones. The attack speed that Braum gains from Spiritual Bullroarer goes naturally well with Concussive Blows, and all of Braum’s slows give Akken’dis plenty of room to get into optimal attacking range.
  • Nunu, the Yeti Rider - Normally, Akken’dis needs to wait for certain items in order for Spiritual Bullroarer to have massive effects. But when Nunu is nearby, the next tier of benefits is but a Blood Boil away. Combined with Nunu’s knack for keeping enemies slowed, Akken’dis will have lots of space to swing his sacred instrument around.

Struggles Against:

  • Graves, the Outlaw - Akken’dis really needs to keep enemies at range, so as to keep his basic attacks hitting strong. Graves excels at getting close. By using Quickdraw to step up and **Buckshot **to deal tons of damage, Graves can stay in Akken’dis’ face and make sure he never reaches the Attack Speed thresholds he needs to reach.
  • Thresh, the Chain Warden - Speaking of thresholds, Akken’dis really needs to farm to be able to reach his. Thresh, however, by tossing out hooks that can pull him into melee range, and threatening Akken’dis with **Flay **empowered basic attacks, can deny the Voice of Heroes a surprisingly high amount of gold. Akken’dis doesn’t do well in a lane he can get bullied in.
  • Nasus, the Curator of the Sands - While we doubt that Akken’dis will be laning against a Nasus, there is very little for Akken’dis to do against one. Being a victim of **Wither **is extremely bad for most ADCs, but especially so for Akken’dis, who is likely to lose the benefits of his passive with a simple reduction to Attack Speed. The slow doesn’t help much, either, keeping Akken’dis uncomfortably close to enemies.

Essential Items - item 3006 item 3046 item 3031

Offensive Items - item 3078 item 3035 item 3142

Defensive Items - item 3139 item 3072 item 3401 (That last one is for Akken'dis in the Support role)

Quotes:

To keep the post from being uber long, there's a link just below. He has quotes for all the normal stuff, as well as ones to Kumungu related champions (Rengar, Wukong, Zyra, etc), song related champions (Tahm, Karthus), and a couple extra I threw in, as story potential (Aatrox, Kha'Zix). There's quotes for Incite Rage, and quotes for if he casts it on specific champions.

Here're the quotes.

Akken'dis is a versatile Marksman/Support that his allies will appreciate. His adaptable playstyle, able to be either a carry himself or a support for the carries, allows him to excel against quite a few team comps. Just keep enemies out of your face, and all will be well.

So, what do you say? Will you hear what he, what the spirits, have to say?

Agreed with most of the other commenters, the passive is a bit hard to understand. Other than that, an ADC or support champ? Sounds fun! The thematics all seem to tie the kit and abilities together as well, so nice job on that.

If you have time, mind checking out a concept of mine and perhaps leaving feedback? http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/hhOFfs9P-champion-concept-song-the-twin-soul

Cool concept but don't you think for balancing purposes having a more traditional Range like 500, 525, or 550 would be better?

Sorry dude, gonna have to wait for the upcoming Kumungu event. And then, so much will be retconned your champion will be sorely out of context. #HardTruth

how did you get the boxes around your abilities?

Variks the Loyal7/8/2015, 5:20:21 PM1 votes

Giving this a small bump. It's by far my favorite idea that I've come up with and I'd like more opinions or criticism on it.

Crystalitar7/12/2015, 8:11:49 PM1 votes

Bumping this because i love the idea! Being a fan of reptillian designs, i wil try to sketch something out from this, i love everything! Sounds balanced, fun idea for adc support possebilities, and great visial-abilities matching!

Giving this a buff... Would love to have more criticism.

Thanks to you both. I appreciate the feedback.

His passive is pretty complex, yeah. It used to be more, when I first started thinking about it. But, to put it simply.

Damaging buffs allies Spells debuff enemies Attack Speed buffs allies Must stay at range
