Degenerating Runes?

Yo, what would you guys think if riot games introduced degenerating runes to the game? It would be like scaling runes but inverted. So at level one you would get a lot of stats, offensive or defensive. However, as you level up, you begin to lose them. At level 18, the runes would no longer be giving you anything. Thoughts, comments, questions, criticisms? Good/bad idea?

There is no downside to them. By the time they become less effective you already have replaced them with items. Runes help you early game (flat) or mid game (scaling) they are close to useless late because you either replaced them with items already or you didn't but everyone is so scaled up that they dont have any real effect

Sounds like it would be too hard to balance around. There are certain champions that already do a ridiculous amount of damage early levels, and the last thing they need is more power. This would just make people snowball that much harder, making it more difficult to come back from unless the game was dragged out, but gl with that since the enemy is fed hard and knows what they're doing.

I like where you were going with the Idea, but the truth is, Flat runes are what was intended to be the early game runes, while champions with a better early game would take scaling runes.

I think if Riot wants to make Runes a more active part of the game, they would have to design champion KITs to fit alternative Rune builds. Certain runes (like the ones for energy) just aren't useful while others (like crit chance/damage) could bring great potential to a champ of they had a KIT for them. Same thing with Attack Speed.

That's why I made this concept, check him out when you can, he was designed to be an Attack-Speed scaling champ. Xander, The Elite

Not to be "that guy", but this would essentially make the exact same scenario riot reworked all the assassins to avoid. They made assassins slower to combo with, especially early game, because people like shaco, eve, and rengar (and roaming mid assassins too) would just gank once they hit lv 3 and would farm champions because nothing could fight them that early. True, if you got to the 35 minute mark and everyone started catching back up to these by-then 15/2 monsters, you'd have a fair chance at a comeback, but it basically just returns the game to the "win by 25 or we lose" scenario those guys were in pre-rework.
