Remember when we were told about Ao Shin? I dont know about most people, but I've been looking forward to him ever since i heard about him. Ive heard rumors that he might come out sometime in 2015, but Ive also heard people say that he is a cancelled project. I personally love dragons, i dont know why. They just are really cute, in a fire breathing reptile sort of way. Shyvana is getting lonely... the dragon in the rift isn't that nice. He used to give her some of his gold, but then he got stingy and she only gets a buff from him now. If anyone has news on Ao Shin, or an estimated release date, or just any info at all, please share.

Apparently they had a very special kit for him. It either didn't work out in testing as they planned or he needs some new tech, which takes a lot of time. I'm not sure which, maybe both.

He is definitely not cancelled, but he needs a lot more time until he is ready. May be late 2015 or even early 2016.

The latest they said was that they're having difficulties animating him properly. So not cancelled, but postponed for a long while.

This is Meddler's quote from Jan 15

"Quote: is Ao Shin going to be released at any time in the near future?

Someday, yes. Soon, no. One of the big problems we hit and need to solve was how we'd animate his long, serpentine body and how that would be treated in gameplay (how does it act when he turns, which bits are targetable etc)."

The last comment about him was from Meddler, I think, and he said that they put him on hold (like with Azir, Vi, Elise) for now, and that they will definitely get back to him in the future.

I remember that there were two main issues:

  1. The air-slithering-like animations they wanted to do were really complicated and needed new tech (they wanted it to move more freely, unlike Cassiopeia which has the awkward-looking slithering animations that make her movement not very smooth and freely as it could be), and the new tech of the new kind of slithering will need new tech for the hitbox, I think.

  2. They tried to connect Theme/Lore with his Abilities, but it didn't work out as good as they thought it would, I think.

I hope and suspect that they might even decide get back to him this year, so he would come out around early to mid 2016, but these are just my thoughts. :P

Ao Shin is a "cancelled" project. It "may" be picked up again in the future, but there are currently no publicized plans to release this champion.

The old Baron found and consumed Ao Shin, that was where he got his new powers and look.

I'm pretty sure Ao Shin's release date is pushed back to a year from the last post someone made about him, meaning this post pushed his release date to 3/23/2016. Next month when someone posts about Ao Shin, it will be April 2016.

Most of the other comments are right, but it's also worth mentioning that within riots champion design department are dozens of separate teams all working on different champion ideas. At any given time, there are 10 champions being made, with a hundred champion ideas sitting in a notebook.
