Noah: The Sunlight of the Dawn

===Lore=== In a nutshell, Noah is the mayor of a smallish town somewhere between Demacia and Piltover. While he's somewhat renowned for being somewhat of a lady's man, he takes his leadership role very seriously, and has formed a small band of heroes to help deal with the various threats that happen on a day-to-day basis (void monster attacks, bandits, and especially undead). While many of these heroes were more powerful than Noah, he continued to lead them from the back lines, dressed in his favourite tuxedo, confident he would never be forced into a direct battle situation. However, when exploring an ancient ruin, seemingly of Targonian origin, Noah found the ultimate weapon against the undead that plagued his town: The Sunlight of the Dawn. A sword made of an unknown type of crystal, it had such density that sunlight trapped within it could never escape. However, when Noah drew the weapon from it's pedestal, a spark ignited within him, bringing his latent powers to realization. He had the power to manipulate sunlight, and shot a beacon of light towards the sky. From this point, Noah dedicated himself to the destruction of all undead throughout the land, acquiring several more tools for his arsenal to help in the slaying of undead. In fact, he had his suit magically enhanced to protect him from harm while still maintaining his aura of leadership. Noah cares greatly for the people of his town, and now leads them head first into battle, inspiring all with his discovered potential.

===Abilities=== Passive: Catalyst - Potential In addition to choosing an ability to rank up, at each level Noah may choose from one of three potentials: Offense, Defense, and Leadership. He may have up to 10 ranks in any given potential. Each rank in Offense increases his damage dealt by 1.5%. Each rank in Defense reduces damage taken by 1.5%. Each rank in Leadership increases movement speed by 5. In addition to these effects, each potential has a unique effect on his abilities.

Q: Sunlight of the Dawn Cost: 80/85/90/95/100 Mana Cooldown: 14/12/10/8/6 seconds Noah stands still, charging his sword with solar energy. His next basic attack within 6 seconds gains +50 range and deals 50/65/80/95/110 +25% bAD +35% AP to 100/130/160/190/220 +50% dAD +70% AP magic damage, depending on how long he charges the attack. He may hold Q for up to 2 seconds. If he completes the entire channel, he may instead reactivate this ability to fire a line of sunlight 750 units long in the target direction, dealing Sunlight of the Dawns damage to all enemies within. Each rank of Offense causes 5% of this ability's damage to be dealt as true damage (up to 50%). Each rank of Defense causes him to heal himself 2% of his missing health over the duration of the channel (up to 20%). Each rank of Leadership causes the ability to charge 0.1 seconds sooner (minimum charge time 1 second).

W: Sun Block Cost: 80 Mana Cooldown: 18/16.5/15/13.5/12 seconds Noah forms a shield of light in front of him which is 300 units wide, and which intercepts incoming non-turret enemy projectiles and basic attacks. This shield can absorb up to 100/140/180/220/260 +80% AP damage before breaking. Upon breaking, or upon reactivation of this ability, or after 4 seconds, Noah slams his shield forward, ending its effects and knocking back all nearby enemies 50-300 units, depending on how damaged his shield was, and stunning them for 0.75 seconds. Noah is ghosted while his shield is in effect. Each rank of Offense increases the duration of the stun by 0.1 seconds. Each rank of Defense increases the base knockback by 5 (for a total of 100-600 units knockback). Each rank of Leadership increases the width of the shield by 20 (for a maximum width of 500).

E: Bursting Light Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 Mana Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 Noah shoots a ball of light at the target location within 600 radius, which then explodes in a 225 radius. Enemies hit by the explosion are nearsighted for 0.3 seconds, blinded for 0.5/0.75/1/1.25/1.5 seconds, and take 65/105/145/185/225 +55% AP magic damage. Each rank of Offense causes struck enemies to take 1% of their maximum health as magic damage over 2 seconds (up to 10%). Each rank of Defense causes allies caught within the blast to be healed for 4% of their missing health (up to 40%). Each rank of Leadership increases the radius of this ability by 10 (up to 325 radius).

R: Celestial Streak Cost: 100 Mana Cooldown: 150 Seconds Noah channels the solar energy in his blade, calling upon the power of the sun to aid him and his allies. After a 2.5 second delay, he summons a beam of purifying sunlight anywhere on the map, dealing 250/375/600 +100% AP damage to all enemies in the area. Ranks of Offense cause this ability to execute enemies below 2% max health per rank (max 20% threshhold). Ranks of Defense causes all nearby allies to be shielded for 2% of their max health for 5 seconds upon cast. (max 20% health shield). Ranks of Leadership reduce the base cooldown of this ability by 5 seconds (minimum base cooldown 100 seconds).

===Quotes=== Plenty of general quotes about his mayoral duties, fighting undead, light, sunlight, the sun, etc. Has special lines for saving allies, getting assists, kills, and other teamwork type things. Has rally lines, and gender-specific lines.

Pick: Here comes the sun. Ban: They blocked out the sun...

To Ahri: Hey Ahri! What'cha doing later? To Amumu: I know he's undead, but... I'd just feel like a jerk for killing him. To Annie: Oh, another pyromaniac. They keep getting younger and younger... To AurelionSol: Did you make the sun? If so, great job. I love that thing. Hey star-man, let's see if sunlight hurts you! To Azir: I admire your leadership. Hey, can I have one of those sun-things for my town? To Brand: So many burned faces... and yet this one lives. To Braum: Back to back! Nice shield, Braum. Cover for me, Braum! To Diana: Sun beats moon. The moon isn't really the opposite of the sun, you know. To Evelynn: Heh, good thing I'm immune to charm spells. Look at those legs, though... It doesn't matter how seductive you are, I... forgot where I was going with that one. To Ezreal: What's up, Ezreal? Still seeing Lux? I like your hair, Ezreal. It's like mine but dirty. Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think Lux likes you that much. For the last time, Ezreal, no, I'm not your dad. To Fiora: How about a one-on-one, Fiora? Duel, that is. To Garen: Twirling, always twirling towards justice. To Illaoi: I have a feeling you've got... strings attached. To Irelia: The way she moves is a mystery. Oh, if I were an Ionian... To Janna: I only called you once, Janna... why do you keep calling me back? To JarvanIV: Man, what a guy. You rock, Jarvan. Ah, diplomacy at its most basic. I gotta give you props, Jay-4. To Jayce: The ladies do like a smart man. To Jinx: Uhh... no thanks. I'll let Flint take that one. To Katarina: Twirling, always twirling towards domination. To Leona: Ah! The sun-aspect herself! Whoa, you're so... brilliant. Yeah I wield the sun in my spare time. You too? Cool. Cool. This isn't your sword, is it? To Lucian: Light guns?! Whoa, those would be so useful! Lucian, Join me and together we can defeat Thresh. To Lux: Hey Lux, you still single? Hey Lux, how about we share light-magic advice? Shine bright, Lux. Shine bright. Blind them with your light! To MissFortune: Miss Fortune, I believe we have some business to discuss... over dinner, perhaps? To Nocturne ult: The light... where did it go? They blocked out the sun... To Pyke: Don't tell me about lists until you've been a mayor for 5 years. Should have stayed underwater, Pyke. To Riven: Redemption isn't easy... just make the right choice, Riven. To Sion: Sion! Why... won't... you... stay... dead! To Sona: So much mystery... I like that. To Swain: Your tyranny shall end, Swain. I stand with Demacia and Ionia. To Taric: Faaaaaabuloooous. To Trundle: Well, you are a king, but I doubt diplomacy would be very effective... To Vayne: Ahh, a fellow monster hunter. Good hunting, Vayne! Let us banish the darkness together! Silver, huh? I'm more of a sunlight kind of guy.
To Velkoz: Look directly at the sun! I dare you! To Vi: Vi? Stands for... no, I won't go there. To Warwick: Hah, I'd like to meet his tailor. To Xayah: No, she's taken. Not really my type, either. To Yorick: So it's YOU who keeps bringing them back! Stop that! Leave the graves along, Yorick! To Zed: The light doesn't fear shadows. It creates them. To Zoe: I hope I never have a daughter... I'd much rather have a son-OH MY GOSH! Twilight as in, like, sunset? or sunrise? That's very important.

===Others=== Noah's joke is him looking directly at the tip of his sword, then being temporarily blinded by it as it fires accidentally. Noah's taunt is him joking about the bloodstain on his suit. "What this? Don't worry, it's not mine." "You should have seen the other guy's suit!" Noah's dance is him doing the dance from singing in the rain. If he dances near a few select others, including Ornn, Braum, and others, he changes his moves to match theirs. Noah's laugh is similar to Lux's, but deeper and more man-ish.

Question is "utility" the same thing as "leadership"?

Rathar Dashing1 votes

Dang, I missed that. That was the original name for it, I'll fix it.

Yeah leadership sounds cooler. XD. I like all the interactions. Those are cool. One possible problem is how close designwise Noah is to Leona... But like we do have chogath and reksai so thats not too big of a problem. Also. The short nearsight is too short. It would cause the screen to flicker too much and might not be good for people with epilepsy. I know some people who can only play league because of league's low amount of flashy visual effects. I think 0.2 seconds of the black ring may be a bit obnoxious. The 50ish sec Global ult seems pretty strong as well. The kit seems supportish but the numbers seem a little high. The 20% missing hp heal seems very obnoxious when built tanky.

Rathar Dashing1 votes

I agree that the numbers seem high, that's not my strong point. I'm gonna lower them a bit. The nearsight is mostly meant to be a shock to whoever gets hit by it, to let them know they've been blinded since as it is, blind is really bad at letting you know who have the condition. I'll up it to 0.3 seconds. In terms of supporty-ness, I was intending for him to be able to go into either support, top, or even mid depending on how he's built and played. I was joking with a friend that he's one of the only champs that could built redemption, titanic hyrda AND protobelt in the same game.

For the 20% missing health on his Q, that's only after he's maxed out his defense potential, which would happen at level 10 at the earliest. He'd also have to be standing still for a full 2 seconds without being CC'd to get this full amount.

The ult is strong, yes, and I am going to increase the cooldown on it because of that. Also for the record, I designed this guy BEFORE they released redemption, I just didn't get around to typing it up until now.

The point about the heal would be like garen. He;d be super tanky with his blind and his very high utility. Duck out of battle for 2 seconds and heal around a third of his missing hp with visage and go back in. If he has like a healer backing him up. It would be like sap magic but more reliable. It would also have a 4ish second cd with 40% cdr max rank so it would have no downtime and can keep him very healthy. Allowing him to frontline till he loses most of hp, charge for 2 seconds and go back in. 4 sec cd 2 sec charge time for 20% missing is quite strong if you use like a hit and run strat. Say if you were playing supp and you also had a tank toplaner. You'd be able to swap back and forth or something idk. With something like essence reaver. The q would have very little downtime.

You've got a point, but I feel like the ability should be an impactful one and one that can turn things towards his favor. To combat it's consistency I'm going to increase the mana cost so he can't spam it out as much without buying mana items.

As for the tank toplaner Noah support, that's something that can and already does happen, with like a Garen top and a Braum support. Support buys warmogs, or is like, Taric or someone and they can trade places pretty consistently.

One thing to remember. Al lot of tank items are mana items ;) Frozen heart, iceborn gauntlet, righteous glory. I'm thinking the transcendence-armor-archangle's staff build that AP/AMR Malphite uses would be really cool. BTW I reallllly dig the lore and all the interactions.. Well done.

I understand that a lot of tank items are mana items, but not a lot of tank items are mana regen items. He'll have to invest in a Redemption or maybe an Athene's to be able to use his Q for consistent sustain. And at that point, you're pretty much playing him as a healer anyway. (also nothing is stopping him from just buying Warmogs ;3)

Thanks for your in-depth advice, and I'm glad you like the champ! I've been wanting to type this one up for a while, and I might have another one that's ready to get posted somewhat soon, too...

A juggernaut with a global execute. That's new.

The way Catalyst - Potential works, Noah is by far best as a solo laner. Levels are essential for his power, whether it be as a mage, juggernaut, or warden. I do, however, think Celestial Streak is a bit much - it either hits for ridiculous effectiveness anywhere or it misses. I believe the ability should work in a manner similar to Xerath Arcanopulse - Noah roots himself while channeling, and both the maximum range and damage of the cast slowly increase with charge time. The player's screen zooms out to view the entire range, making the ability more difficult to land precisely if he channels it too long. Once recast, the ability fires, and Noah channels until it lands. I'm imagining the ability looks like a giant arc of golden energy flying across the Rift that travels at a static speed, and Noah sits there in "Saiyan mode" for both the initial channel and the travel duration.

Additionally, I believe the execute of Celestial Streak should either apply before the rest of the ability's damage or instead deals %missing HP. The numbers can be changed to increase with the ability's channel time.

Other than the brokenness or uselessness of the current Celestial Streak, Noah seems like a solid AP juggernaut with a likeable personality and unique kit. +1.

Rathar Dashing1 votes

Thanks! You're right about the ultimate, the execute is meant to apply BEFORE the damage of the ability. I didn't know how to word it to make it more clear.

As for the power of the ultimate changing based on his channel time, I think that's going a bit overboard mechanics wise. If he wants the shorter range power of the sun, he can just use his Q and E. Or buy Redemption.

You can imagine Noah standing still with his sword to the sky, shooting a thin beam of sunlight directly upwards as his short, dirty-blonde hair waves in the nonexistant wind, his coattails mimicking this movement. As he goes super saiyan, possibly while shouting some sort of sun-related battlecry, a area indicator appears somewhere on the map, slowly filling up with golden light over 2.5 seconds, until it finally reaches it's zenith and strikes down with the fury of the sun. At least that's how I picture it.

I think with the amount of it charges and the effects it has. A cool addition would be that thematically it would be an unstoppable force of the sun. So make it so Noah is cc immune while charging it. Because it seems easily dodgeble with a fairly high cd at lower levels. This would give it another facet of use. Maybe like make it so that while charging a blinding column of light surrounds him and he becomes cc immune as he charges it. The 2.5 sec cd should be enough to dodge it. It seems like in soloqueue which never has good global coordination, his ult is almost useless. My point is that the ability would be like Lux or Urgot ult, unstoppable without killing him.

Does his W shield lock in angle once cast or does it move as he turns?

Anyways whats his theme/niche/ archtype supposed to be? What makes him unique and stand out from other champions, what new stuff does he bring to the game? What role would he play on a team and where would he go?

Rathar Dashing1 votes

His W behaves like a braum shield, it becomes a flat wall in front of him that moves with him but always points in the same direction.

In terms of what new stuff he adds to the game, I thought that was rather obvious...

He could be played both top and support, or possibly even mid depending on how you build him. He could play different types of roles depending on what potentials you choose, if you went full defense you could be a full tank and heal your allies, and if you went full offense you could be more of a damage carry.
