They were an unruly bunch, the cleaners had hardly any time to deal with surface passes, and they certainly weren’t going to cough up any for him. His face was gnarled by acid, limbs thrashing wildly to escape the pain. Screams of rage deterred what few scavengers that eyed the living cadaver, leaving him to writhe on the cobble street.
His mind numbed and his body ravaged, an organ harvest would have been a relatively quiet end for him, no one in Zaun ever truly goes away. As death set in the colorless void grew steadily colder, his final breaths approached with a morbid rhythm. Through the pain he felt several men drag him to his feet, no longer bearing the energy to resist he succumbed to their iron grips, and in turn, a deeper sleep.
What he saw was no mere victim. As he was laid on the table the scientist scoffed at his twisted flesh, with a flip of the switch a low hum echoed in the laboratory. The acolytes lined the walls, patiently waiting for a command, of which was simple: observe.
It was a blank canvas, waiting for the artist’s masterful strokes. Each methodical cut brought forth improvement, a new vision to explore. This was the pinnacle of human achievement, to transcend the mortal coil, to embrace the Glorious Evolution!
Days went unnoticed, fully absorbed in his craft Viktor paused only briefly to admire his latest creation. The room grew eerily quiet in the absence of the machination’s vibrations, the silence broken by the cackles of life coursing through the subject’s iron veins.
Pain.
His mind reeled, his entire body felt foreign and weak. With a surge of energy he found himself standing, the entire room processed in an instant, and an unspeakable rage pooling in his head. He turned to his creator, who then gestured around the lab.
“Welcome Gex-319, to the Glorious Evolution!”
