Gamemode Concept: Mirror Meta
So thinking about it a lot of the complaints I've seen about the rotating game modes is that everyone just spams the op champs and you don't get to see as much innovation and crazy stuff. This concept was born while thinking of a way to force a meta break, and to also create more opportunities for a scenario I tend to enjoy: mirror lanes.
The basic idea is that both teams will end up with the same champs and teamcomp. This could be very standard lanes, or everyone could have 5 different supports and you have to place yourself into lanes as best you can. No matter what though you won't be counterpicked because the other team has the same 5 champs, good or bad. You can pick the best champ in the game if you want, but you'll be giving it to one of your opponents as well, so that might not always be the best idea.
The best way I can think of to handle the champion select would be for bans to be handled as normal, but after the banning phase is over it switches to normal draft style where everyone picks a champ and locks in. The 5 champ composition will then be decided randomly from the pool of 10 champs that the players selected. If your champ is chosen then you are guaranteed to get that champ, and if the same champ is selected by a player on both teams then they are guaranteed to get that champ.
Other variations I've thought of is to allow duplicates after the banning phase, so that you could have any combination of champions. We already have All for One, but what if the other team has those 5 champs too so it's 10 Lux's spamming laugh instead of 5 (I think this was a mode at some point)? Or what if you have 2 of one champ and 3 of another? These scenarios would be pretty unlikely without a lot of luck since the champs are drawn from both team's choices, but they could still happen and maybe opening up a cross team chat option in champ select could remedy that by allowing all 10 people to communicate (not a lot of risk of trolls at this point since you can't really devise a strategy for them to blab about until you see your composition).
I think that the rotating game mode queue is an excellent place to try this out since it would be minimal work to implement and balance, and if it's not popular then we wouldn't have to see it again. Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? I'm open to suggestions and feedback.
