Kayn insights: The path to development
Two members of the Riot design team were playing league one day and decided to create a new champ. But what should the abilities do?
Q: Rioter 1 : Aw man, I missed again. Darius' Q just gives too much reaction time these days. Rioter 2: If only it started out with a Trynd E during the charge time.
W: Rioter 1: People keep praising Sion's rework, but this charged Q is just so hard to land. Rioter 2: If only it were a bit more instant, like Yorick's new E. Of course, I'd still want the power to choose between slow and knockup.
E: Rioter 1: Dang, guess that wall's a bit too thick for Fizz to jump through with his E. And now I've wasted the spell. Rioter 2: Just play Talon, no wall is too big. Parkour for days. Rioter 2: But then I won't be untargetable ...
R: Rioter 1: Shoot, Shen ulted bot right after I used my cc spell, and my TP was on cooldown. Rioter 2: Eh, not much you could've done. Rioter 1: No way, if I could've followed him, it would've been an easy triple. We need an ability that can attach to someone without cancelling a channel ability. Rioter 2: Idk, sounds weird. Also sounds a bit underwhelming. Would it at least do damage? Rioter 1: Well, I suppose we could throw in a few mechanics from Ekko's ult, just to be safe.
Passive: Rioter 2: Wait! Where does this champ fit into the meta? Rioter 1: Assassins are still meta, right? Rioter 2: No way, man, it's all about the tanks now. Rioter 1: Are you sure? I can't keep up. Rioter 2: So ... which is it? Assassin or tank? Rioter 1: ... Rioter 1: ... Yes.
