Basthet lore

In ancient shurima, not long after the betrayal of Xerath over emperor Azir, there lived a warrior named Basthet. Basthet was a vigorous fighter, with her pike she led hunts for several large monsters, whether they were terrorizing villagers or simply for food or leather. Her strength and finesse were known throughout all of Shurima. At the time, Shurima was plagued with a horrible curse, the ritual that gave Xerath his ascended powers opened a portal to the void. The denizens knew not if it was due to the power being handled in the ritual, or Xerath's dark intention manifesting, but nobody could refuse that the portal was there. The creatures were originally small and harmless, they were unused to the gravity of the planet, however as time passed the creatures became more and more adapt to living in our world, and becoming truly monstrous, the elders knew what they had to do. They sent invitation for the warriors around Shurima and the surrounding landscape to come to the palace, one by one, warriors arrived, including Basthet. They were tasked with the defense of the land against the voidspawn. One by one the warriors fell, but Basthet was always there to fight, able to defeat all the creatures she faced. She continued for many months, fighting foes and tested like royalty, she had all she ever wanted, but she knew that it could not last forever, so she decided that she had to stop it. She struck the portal with all her might, but the portal was not physical matter, and for once, she could not destroy a threat with force, but she knew all the citizens were relying on her, so she relentlessly battered the portal with her pike, yet nothing would happen. Muscles sore, covered in sweat she wanted to quit, she wanted to rest, but with her last drop of strength she leaped, headfirst, into the portal. The void tugged at her psyche, threatening to take control over her, but she would never give up. She asserted her will over the void and as she died in the void, she took the portal with her. The portal collapsed, sending a blast across Shurima, sending the glorious civilization to ruin. Many years passed until Malzahar found the ruin, ow buried under sand, and released the void. When the void was released, Basthet, still linked to the portal, was pulled back as a spirit to this world. Restless knowing the thing she gave her life for was undone. She called on the ascended to see her and renew her onto the world. The ascended saw her and knew her soul was pure. They returned her to runeterra with their favor, taking the ascended form of a feline, much similar to how Azir gained the form of a bird. With a new reason to fight, she continues to seal any instances of the void with her powers.
