put all champs to be equal in damage and health. the only thing that changes them are the ability's and the items.

first off, this probably goes into gameplay

second, the abilities themselves are not balanced, either from a scaling(the same item benefits them more than the other) or mechanical(EX. Camille's busted-ass engage) standpoint.

giving all champs the same stats not only removes diversity, but also makes the early game unbalanced since certain skillsets are more attuned to the early game than others.

making stat diversity completely dependent on items also causes issues in terms of fairness, because anyone that gets an early game advantage will likely steamroll for the rest of the match

why?

why?

Because going by your OP's example, you would have to normalise every single stat and mechanic in champions.

Which in that case, by the end of your balance exercise, every single champ would be literally identical with the sole exception of their character model.

Balanced? Yeah.

But is it right? Hell no.

..........

And if you don't touch the mechanics but only normalise the numbers, then it would become completely unbalanced as the other guy has said, as different champs have different mechanics in their kit, and normalising mere stats simply will not work.

..........

This is why different champs tend to be balanced differently, and only similar to their peers (other champ within the same class, or at least share similar basis/purpose/fundamental-mechanics).

but it depends on your skills. how you play that champ

It doesn't work like that.

If every champ has the same HP and damage output. Champs with more CC would instantly become OP because they have the same damage and base as everybody else, on top of having more CC than everybody else. Champs with more range would also become OP because they have the same damage and base as everybody else, on top of having more range than everybody else. Champs with more mobility would join the OP crowd too because they have the same damage and base as everybody else, on top of having more mobility than everybody else. Resource-less champs would again, become OP because they don't have a resource to manage while sharing the same base and damage as everybody else...... so on so forth.

The game would become the biggest stat-check, and people would inevitably figure out the statistically fattest toons on the roster and just play them.

It's not "it depends on your skills", there is no skill because everyone will be forced to play the same top champs or get facerolled by outright superior picks that are better than yours in every way possible.

Your suggestion doesn't help balancing the game imho, it's only making the current problems 100x worse.

Srsly ? [slayer-jinx-unamused]

Because unless you make them all the same champion, you'd have to need different stats to balance out the abilities. If a ranged champion has the same health and damage as a melee champion, than there is literally no reason to pick a melee champion.
