I was wondering... why can't you message offline friends? Background: Me and a friend I can only contact on League agreed to exchange gifts. He lost his card, and had to send it the day after. After he got off, I was unable to message him that I changed my mind about what I wanted, as I already have a Nami skin, and there was the 4x legendary and esports thing going on. I had to way to contact him, so I couldn't tell him "Hey, actually could you send a mystery gift and a mystery chest (the 790 one) please? <3" So in the end, he sent it to me while I was asleep, and I ended up getting a skin I... didn't really want tbh. tl;dr why can't we message offline people?!

If you go into your friends list, there's an option there to have it display offline people. From there, you can message them and they'll see it when they come on. In the top right, below the minimize button, there's a search bar. Below that, there's a little gear that, when you mouse over it, says "friend options." If you click on that, it'll bring up a small window. At the bottom of that is a little toggle box that says "show offline friends." Click that and it'll do just what it says, and now you can message them while they're offline.

On the other hand, there's an app for the phone called League Friends, which links you to League and lets you message people even if they're offline and lets you message your League friends from your smart phone using the League messaging system. You can message friends who are online and friends who are on the League Friends app at any time using either the app or the in-client messaging.
