general concept for a "summoner" champion(along with addressing issues with the champion archetype)

i would really like a champion that relies on some sort of powerful being that they summon (and you control in-game). we have many champions that have a kind of similar premise Annie, Azir,Orianna, Heimerdinger, Kindred, Mordekaiser, Lulu, Swain, Yorick and even Rumble to a certain extent. but with all of them, it still feels like they are the ones doing things, not whoever their ally of choice is(well except yorick kinda, but he can't control them). now i know the balancing for something like this end up being really difficult (have you ever laned against a yorick with flask and 3 mana pots?) but i believe i have found some good solutions to make them not have the play-style of "throw my minion at you while i sit back and farm" and force them to have good positioning with their familiar.

  1. if they die have a significant cool-down before they come back(like 25-30 seconds or something like that) 2.make it so that the being that their familiar grants them power(they take a stat loss while their summon is down)
  2. give their familiar a leash range(but keep it large) and maybe even make it so that when it reaches that leash range you just cant give it commands so to speak, and have to walk back in range to give it commands (instead of like the teleporting back from tibbers) these 3 things make it so that they cant just send the familiar on a suicide mission to push people out of lane constantly, and make it so you don't have the case of you farm the lane while your familiar farm the jungle etc.

now on to actual ideas for the champion, rather than addressing problems with the general champion concept.

  1. lore-wise make them a fairly "weak" person that just happened upon their familiar so as to explain the lack of action they themselves take
  2. make it so that their familiar is the one using the abilities(other than like one ability the summoner uses to buff them up maybe)

i know that this is a really general champion concept, (and i could, and have, thought of many ways to make this idea a champion) but one of my favourite things about this game is seeing how the design team takes a concept and turns it into a fully functioning champion.

well here it is

bob (name subject to change)

to preface this, i want to say that this is just an example to showcase some mechanics that [i think] would make this champion archetype work, not so much fully fleshed out creative work. (basically my long way of saying the abilities will probably be pretty generic;)

Passive-The Pact bob (name subject to change) has made a pact with a powerful demon possesing powerful abilities that fights by his side (you can control the demon with alt right click, also has a leash range of 2000?, if the demon passes this leash range bob (name subject to change) can no longer control him and he just stands there doing nothing, if left outside of the leash range for more than 10? seconds he will leave(same as when he dies, but without the 20% hp loss). if the demon is reduced to zero hit points, bob (name subject to change), losses 20% of his maximum hp (this affect cannot reduce bob (name subject to change) below 10% hp). the demon returns after 30 seconds.

Q-name pending cooldown: 9/8/7/6/5 cost: 60/65/70/75/80

the demon throws a fireball in a direction, exploding on the first enemy hit or when it reaches its maximum range dealing 50/90/130/170/210 +80% ap magic damage in an aoe range-500 radius-125

W-name pending

the demons basic attacks deal an additional 4/8/12/16/20% ap magic damage and can proc on-hit effects

E-name pending cooldown: 16/15/14/13/12 cost: 60/70/80/90/100

the demon dashes to target location hitting the ground with such destructive force that they stun (knockup?) all enemies in the area for 1 second and dealing 40/65/90/115/140 +35% ap range-600 radius- 225

R-Hellfire/Resurrect (2 part ability) cooldown: 140/130/120 cost: 150 mana

Hellfire- the demon channels briefly (.75 seconds) then fire erupts from the ground around the demon dealing 125/250/375 +70% ap magic damage and burning the ground for the next 3 seconds, causing enemies standing in the area to take 40/65/90 +20% ap per second (Hellfire has no cast time and does not interupt bob (name subject to change)'s previous orders) ability radius- 425

Resurrect- if the demon is not on the battlefield, immediately summon them at target location. reducing the cooldown of this ability by half. range-600

oh god base stats... almost forgot about those... hp- 465 hp/level- 68 hp/5- 5 hp/5/level- .55 mp- 334 mp/level- 50 mp/5- 6 mp/5/level- .6 ad- 47 ad/level- 2.625 as- .625 as/level- 1.36% armor- 19 armor/level 3 mr- 30 mr/level- 0 ms 325 attack range 575

the demons base stats hp- 630 hp/level- 99 hp/5- 5 hp/5/level- .55 ad- 40 ad/level- 3.33 as- .625 as/level- 1% armor- 20 armor/level- 7 mr- 30 mr/level- 5 ms 340 (benefits from all movement bonuses the player has) attack range 125

This was actually one of my previous champion concepts from the old boards. Unfortunately, nobody pays attention to concepts, but I still support this all the way.

Yea, too bad that most of people here dislikes summoners. I tried many times to make summoner concepts, but all of them got hated.

I've done a rework on Annie that falls under that, making Tibbers her passive, blending her stun into her Q, and giving her an amped-up Brand W as her ult.
