Yorick Rework Ideas
I noticed that poor Yorick, who is such an amazing champion, is still suffering from his lack of changes and i have a few ideas that riot will hopefully see and consider. Please tell me what you think, as I'm open to ideas.
The first problem with Yorick is he is a minion mancer kind of character that actually does a lot of his own damage. While not a bad concept, how he is now makes him have too strong of potential and is impossible to balance around LoLs current state. I will list the changes then follow with and explaination. The explaination will begin with a X: so you know when it goes from effects to discussion time. Lastly, this is all an idea to IMPROVE Yorick and maybe make him viable once he is reworked, so any criticism is allowed. Note that, since im not the best with numbers and ratios for champs, i will give very general terms of range and numbers (short vs long or low vs high damage) instead of full blown numbers.
Passive: Unholy Covenant= Yorick passively summons Ghouls based on his skills. This passive will summon them again a time after they die. The time taken is based on the skills rank. Yorick does more damage with his basic attacks with how many ghouls he has out as well as him using his Ghouls to enhance his skills use. X: The reason for this change is the old one has too much potential to make Yorick OP when he spammed skills but can also screw him if he did spam them. Basically, it just kinda made him want to conflicting things at once. Also, Yorick's personal power coming from his 'minions' isn't bad, but he should also be punished for not caring about them. Lastly, the old passive gave restrictions on his ghouls and i would prefer their stats be based on specific stats of Yorick's so certain builds will favor certain Ghouls. The Ghouls can be controlled the same as other temporary pets (like tibbers). This movement applies to ALL Ghouls.
Q: Omen of War= Yorick empowers his next attack to deal low to moderate bonus physical damage. If Spectral Ghoul is alive, it will blink and copy the attack when Yorick hits and give both Yorick and itself movement speed. Passively grants the ability to summon Spectral Ghoul. Spectral Ghoul attacks faster than other Ghouls and favors Attack Damage. X: Yorick's main damage tool. While low by himself, it is stronger with Spectral Ghoul. The blink can be used to help hold off miions then join the assault as Yorick attacks them. The speed boost being rewarded on attack encourages Yorick to either chase after them or retreat after. Since this attack focuses on damage, so does Spectral Ghoul at the cost of it's health.
W: Omen of Pestilence= Yorick summons an eruption at the target location, dealing moderately low ability damage and slowing foes. If Decaying Ghoul is alive, this effect is copied on itself. If both of these effects hit one target, the slow lasts longer. Passively grants the ability to summon Decaying Ghoul. Decaying Ghoul slows foes with it's attacks and favors Ability Power. X: Yorick's main harrassment tool. The damage is just enough to help but not enough to nuke, however the slow can make it dangerous, especially if Decaying Ghoul is helping. Decaying Ghoul can help keep Yorick and his Covenant on his foes when he is dedicated and allows it to slow foes to help Yorick and his allies escape. Decaying Ghoul has less offensive scaling than his Ghoulish allies, but instead focuses on increased slow on attacks.
E: Omen of Famine= Yorick drains a little life from the foe, scaling with max health. If Ravenous Ghoul is alive, it also creates a shield on Yorick. Passively grants the ability to summon Ravenous Ghoul. Ravenous Ghoul steals very little health from the targets it hits and gives it to Yorick and favors Health. X: Yorick's Sustaining tool. Encourages Yorick to build tanky or to use to recover from harsh battles. Ravenous Ghoul brings a threat to foes that get in duels, thanks to the heals it can give. This Ghoul will help Yorick prepare for any fight but isn't meant to keep him too high during fights. Ravenous Ghoul has a lot more health than the other Ghouls, but also attacks slower.
R: Omen of Death= Yorick calls upon a remnant to make a copy of his targeted ally. This Remnant attacks foes but is limited to the chosen ally's basic attacks and a portion of their attack damage. This Remnant will obey commands like other Ghouls. If the ally dies while the Remnant is alive, the Remnant will sacrifice itself to bring the ally back, allowing them to enact vengeance for a time. Passively lowers the damage Ghouls take from AoE damage by 25/50/75%. X: Basically his current active ult so this part i will leave as is, but i need to explain his passive portion. The reason for this is to give his Ghouls more survival to AoE champs like Soraka's Q and Ziggs....well in general without making them take too little damage early on. At late game, the Ghouls become hard to kill by AoE and is more efficient to solo target kill. The Remnant, for the means of the passive, counts as a Ghoul.
Final thoughts. I think this set up is a good beginning place for Yorick's Rework. It still keeps his core theme (Self powered minionmancer) without ignoring his own output or his that of his minions. This also allows 3 separate benefits, so focusing too much in one stat will make others drop off. You are encouraged (and rewarded) for focusing on two main stats and having the 3rd as a weaker benefit. The bonuses his skills get while his Ghouls are alive and his passive makes it worth while to kill them if a Yorick is snow balling or becoming a big threat. Yorick gains tactical advantages by making his Ghouls flank foes or hide in brush etc. The passive summoning is to make him able to have them for his kit WITHOUT it being a summon on demand deal (the summon time isn't PLANNED to be reduced by CDR, only the active part of the skills). This even opens up 3 distinct builds for Yorick to choose, Physical Bruiser, AP Tank, and Hybrid Fighter. Each has it's cons (weak slows, weak damage, squishy respectively) but this allows Yorick players to choose which to use for his team comp.
