[Champion Concept] Morris, the Spyglass Confidante

Rather old concept I made a while back I'm recreating for the sake of changes. He's also very much a WIP and is nothing is set as final. Enjoy!

Author's note: I may or may not have came around to this idea purely through watching way too much of Peaky Blinders :P

#Lore (WIP, queue short version for now)

While the state police of Piltover control the surface, the spy network beneath the streets monopolize the underground market of illegal hex-tech acquirements, and have contacts that stretch as far as Bilgewater. Often times their most frequent customers relay back to Zaun, as they are all too desperate to get their hands on anything groundbreaking, which the market is all too welcome to oblige with so long as their client provides the dough. The kingpin behind the works is Morris, a sorcerer who enjoys the finer things in life and utilizes dark magic to obtain ill-gotten gains. He is as sly as a fox, and as slippery as an eel. No matter how many times Piltover authorities bust his hideouts, he seems to disappear into thin air, and not even his own subjects know of his means of doing such.

#Abilities

#Passive: Wiseguy Allied Champion Detection Radius: 900 units

Morris ignores unit collision, and gains 25% movement speed when nearby allied champions. This effect lingers for 2 seconds after moving away from an allied champion.

Whenever Morris runs through an enemy or allied champion, a special effect occurs.

  • Whenever Morris moves through an allied champion, Morris and the allied champion gain a shield that absorbs 50 (+5 per level) damage for 5 seconds. This effect as a 10 second cooldown.
  • Whenever Morris moves through an enemy minion or monster, they take 20 (+4 per level, 88 at level 18) true damage, and Morris gains 75% of this back as health over the course of 8 seconds. This effect has a 8 second cooldown for each enemy minion or monster he walks through.
  • Whenever Morris moves through an enemy champion, he deals 30 (+5 per level, 105 at Level 18) (+25% AP) magic damage to the champion and gains 2 (+1 per level, 20 at Level 18) gold. This effect has a 10 second cooldown.

#Q: Buon' Anima Cost: 40/45/50/55/60 Mana Cooldown: 4 seconds Skillshot Length: 750 units Skillshot Width: 75 units Skillshot Speed: 1650

Morris flicks a bolt of dark magic from underneath his sleeve, dealing 60/75/90/105/120 (+50% AP) magic damage to all enemies hit and marking them for 5 seconds. Marked enemy champions take 15% more damage from all non-champion damage sources, 7.5% more damage from champion sources other than Morris, and marked minions and monsters take 10% more damage from Morris for 5 seconds. An enemy champion that has been marked by Morris cannot be re-marked for 14 seconds.

If Morris basic attacks an enemy champion that is marked by this ability, they are slowed by 30% for 2 seconds. This can only occur once per mark.

#W: Gentlemanly Gesture/Mock Execution Cost: 80/90/100/110/120 Mana Cooldown: 10 seconds Casting Range (Gentlemanly Gesture): 500 units AOE Radius (Gentlemanly Gesture Vision): 850 units Casting Range (Mock Execution): 375 units AOE Radius (Mock Execution Damage): 400 units

Spawns a small Clover that grants vision over a small area, and can be picked up by allies to restore 30/45/60/75/90 (+20% AP) health. If an enemy walks over it, they take 55/60/85/100/115 (+40% AP) magic damage. Clovers last 30 seconds before disappearing.

This ability can also be cast on empty jungle camps. which creates mimic neutral monsters at a cleared jungle camp that last for 2 minutes or until the camp respawns. If an enemy attempts to use a spell, ability, or attack on one of the mimicked neutral monsters, the mimics disappear, dealing 80/100/120/140/160 (+45% AP) magic damage to all enemies around the attacker and rooting them for 1.5 seconds, revealing them to your team for the next 10 seconds. Can only have two camps mimicked at a single time.

#E: Shakedown Cost: 70/80/90/100/110 Mana Cooldown: 11 seconds Casting Range: 600 units

Teleports to a target, dealing 65/75/85/95/105 (+50% AP) magic damage to the target and slowing them by 40% for 1.5 seconds and refreshing the cooldown on Buon' Anima. If the enemy struck is a champion, Morris gains 10/15/20/25/30 gold and nearby allied champions gain 2/4/6/8/10 gold. If the target has a non-dragon non-baron jungle buff, Morris gains this buff as well, but only lasts for half as long. (This does not remove the buff from the target)

If the target is marked by Morris's Buon' Anima, they are grounded for 3 seconds.

If Shakedown kills the target, Shakedown's cost and cooldown is refunded.

#R: Backdoor Cost: 100 Mana Cooldown: 55 Seconds Casting Range: Global AOE Radius: 300 units

Passive: Whenever Morris gains health from any source, nearby allies gain 25% of the health gained.

Active: Morris summons a Portal beneath his feet and a matching Portal at the target area, both Portals being linked to eachother, each with 6 hitpoints. If Morris recalls inside one of the Portals, he is teleported to the other Portal instead of being teleported to the spawn fountain. After coming out of a Portal, Morris gains 25%/35%/45% movement speed for 3 seconds and is stealthed, and causing his next basic attack to deal an additional 80/95/110 (+25% AP) magic damage and slow the target by 15% for 4.5 seconds.

If one Portal is destroyed, the Portal that links to it is also destroyed. Portals last for 10 minutes, and only 3/4/5 pairs of Portals are allowed to be out at a single time.

Oh yeah, I'm back by the way.

Once again I would like to remind that this concept is rather experimental, as I am dabbling with five core concepts which made this concept come to be that I would love to receive specific feedback on if able:

  • The ultimate: teleport back-doors that only he can utilize. Are they viable, let alone balanced? If not, improvements or scrap entirely? Or even a suggestion for a new ultimate that still grasps the same thematic?
  • The mimic camps: Is it viable? Is it balanced? Improve or scrap?
  • The passive: Viable? Balanced? Improve or scrap?
  • The shakedown: Gold gain through an ability? Is it viable? Is it balanced? Improve or scrap?
  • The roles of Support and Assassin entwined in one: Is it possible? Does the kit fit? If not, what changes would you provide to make the concept fit both roles while still maintaining theme and balance?

Just curious, what would you build on this guy, and how long is the Portal cast range? because Recalling takes a loooooooong time to do, especially for a short distance. Don't forget, you have Ryze that can Teleport too. How would you make your Ult differ?

By the way, I love the short LORE, makes Piltover seem more realistic, rather that this Rich prosperous city-state that "The Law" has on lock and key.

Fixed a few typos, and changed the time between marks on his Q

Hi, I'm reviewing.

Honestly it doesn't seem like much has changed from the original version of Morris that you posted. In general it doesn't seem like there is much synergy. It's held together by the theme, which is great, but the kit should also have synergy with itself as well.

For example, there seem to be many random effects on the kit. Why does the ult passive restore health to allies whenever Morris restores health? It seems quite weird, and potentially abusive with a fighter build and Warmogs (you could potentially heal better than Soraka if you were OOC and be very powerful in sieges)

You mentioned that the guy was a support, which would mean it's likely there will be an ally around in the bot lane. The passive granting perma-ghost in lane with an ally nearby means that the guy is extremely hard to gank effectively, Again, the issue here is that it's a very powerful skill, but the kit is held together pretty much by thematic. There's little gameplay synergy.

Q is...ok. The issue here is the numbers are very involved with the extra damage calculated and it makes consistency pretty much...not. It has a decent base but the growth is horrible and the speed of the projectile is middling at best. Is this meant to be a poke skill? It feels like a poke skill, the mana and CD are consistent with one, but it just does no damage, and the damage increase on a champion is decent but not very good considering the limitations put on it.

W is horribly mana inefficient. Whether for healing allies or damaging enemies, Bard just does it better. The bases are again strangely low, although I suppose that the core of the skill is with the jungle camp mimicking. The problem is that this drops off at a high level of play. People will have their camps timed and won't fall for the tricks in this case

E is a nice followup to the Q, but why does it generate gold? It feels out of place (again it's held together solely by the theme) and could probably use some handy combat effect.

Overall what we have here is a moderately decent support who is strong early but very quickly falls off. No CC apart from a 3 second ground which puts them in melee (as a ranged character no less, and who possesses ranged base stats as a consequence). The kit itself is weak if the random effects on the kit are not accounted for, but they only serve to be thematic and more of a stat check. I think what's needed here is to double down on the kit while retaining the thematic consistency.

My concept: Novenna, the Securitor
