Custom HUD in .png format

I want to change the look of my HUD with a custom one, but I have a little problem. Every single one of the custom HUDs I have downloaded is in .png format and when I try to look for a tutorial online people only show how to install custom HUDs that are in .dds format. Can someone give me a guide on how to install HUDs that are in .png format or link me to one. Even a reddit thread will be helpful. :)
