A niche yet to be filled

Books. One of the very few archetypes League has not yet filled is that of a librarian, and the more I think about it the more I want to see a champion with this theme. I don't have a real concept, but here are some abilites/lore fragments/things I think might be cool:

Abilities:

  • A spellbook mechanic? Abilties/spells could be weak on their own, but could combo with each other to form more powerful incantations.

  • Some ideas for spells as described above:

a) Generic healing spell

b) Generic damaging skillshot

ab) Comboing A and B together gives a skillshot with 100% spellvamp.

c) A tether which roots after a few seconds

ac) A+C = tether to an ally to heal over a few seconds and give tenacity

bc) B+C = Skillshot with an instant root

abc) All three together: Big skillshot with root and spellvamp? Tether to ally for dmg boost and healing?

Et cetera

  • Stealing/giving mana, maybe with a tether between the caster and the affected. Obvious parallel between mana and brainpower/knowledge/etc makes this almost a must.

  • Buffing other champions' AP

  • Stealing other champions' AP

  • Maybe something inspired by Death Note? A Book of Names comes to mind, where if you scratch out a name the person is hurt/killed. In game, could be a shit-ton of true damage or something.

  • Could buy books in the shop, read them to regain mana

Possible Lore:

  • A Ionian librarian living close to a magical node, whose books became endowed with consciousness and power of the course of years.

  • A Demacian researcher who stumbled across a trove of enchanted books hidden in the back of a storeroom. Tentatively uses them in defense of his country, but feels conflicted due to his deep-seated fear and distrust of magic.

  • The semi-corporeal avatar created by an ancient library in order to enact its interests.

  • The Targonian Aspect of Knowledge

Stuff:

  • Surrounded by floating books?

  • Related to the spell-combination concept - spells could be rune based. Runes line up in the air when abilities are cast, then pulse when activating.

  • League doesn't have many pretty guys - a cute male librarian would be good eye candy. Maybe give him glasses for maximum nerdiness.

  • I see opportunities to make this guy/girl ANIME AS FUCK

  • Does he/she have to be human? Maybe not...

  • Vastaya? Could be interesting

  • Would have to be careful to differentiate from Ryze

EDIT 1: May make a champion concept from this. May make a few, actually. I know Riot never looks at these when designing champions but fuck it it's fun.

god i would love an actual old lady champion. camille is the closest thing to that but she 'has a hex tech heart which helps her retain her youthful looks,' :| and is half robot anyway. You seem kinda headed in the opposite direction though, haha, with 'hot anime guy' :p

you mentioned avatar of a library, i think of Wa Shi Tong, the Owl from the desert library in ATLA? I think owls are a good representation of knowledge, but we already have a bird champ, haha.

giving mana would be cool but could easily be very overpowered. I like the idea of it being a tether, would have to be a generally small stream, probably sapping something or yours in return. Same ability could be used on enemies for a different effect, probably a root like you mentioned.

im not sure how abilities would combine to give new effects, maybe it would be a passive thing?

the tricky part i think is relating this all to books, and making the abilities feel unique, visually differentiating them from ryze (like you said) and making their kit not like karma's, with the whole damage skillshot\defense\tether abilities.

This makes me think of final fantasy Crystal Chronicles. You could combine 2 fire spells to cast fira. If you cast one with a bit of a delay, it would make firaga.

Casting 2 different elements would make gravity and I think holy was any element with life.

how about something like:

passive - spellbook research:

every X seconds, casting an ability will empower the next. this abilities cooldown also resets after champion kills and assists

Q - Invoked Flame:

Spreads fire in a line of flame along the ground dealing damage and causing the area to burn for x seconds dealing damage over time in the area.

Empowered: the range, width and damage are increased

W - Invoked Water :

passive: gains %mana regen

Empowered - Active: fires a blast of water at target enemy champion dealing damage based on AP and %mana, bouncing back from the enemy to the nearest allied champion restoring %missing mana

E - Invoked Earth:

Become Untargetable while you dash in a line. This also make any terrain passable for a short time.

Empowered: the ground also becomes muddied, slowing enemies that walk on it and rooting them after a time.

R - Spellbook of the Ancients:

Fire up to 3 beams of light that deal damage. The first also reduces MR and applies grievous wounds . The Second Heals you and the nearest Ally based on %mana. The 3rd Stuns all enemies hit.

If This ability would be empowered, each beam will deal bonus damage based on % enemy current health and refresh the cooldown of Spellbook research

not a final product by fire, so anyone should feel free to add ideas, or numbers, since i'm not good with that kind of stuff.[galio-happy]

It could work where the passive gives you a timer of two seconds or something between spell casts to gain the combo effects, or some sort of buffer time during the spell cast to gain the special effects, similar to Yasuo and his Q either being a line or a circle.

Thoughts?

Albadeer Vostroyan, The Bookkeeper Of Below

HP: 513-1387 HP Regen: 4-22 MP: 390-812 MP Regen: 4-22 AD: 54-102 Attack Speed: .625 (+2.2% per level) Movement Speed: 345 Attack Range: 475 Armor: 27-48 Magic Resist: 31-52

Passive: Arcane Flash - Albadeer has a third bar which can hold a charge of each of his abilities. To put the charge there, simply cast the ability while outside of combat or (if targeted) while not over an enemy. This replaces the effects of those abilities. With two or more abilities planted into the bar, all abilities currently on cooldown are replaced with "Arcane Flash", which casts an empowered ability based on what was put into it. Base, the ability is a thin skillshot that deals 40/70/100 +40% AP damage to the first champion hit (doesn't affect minions or monsters). Storing abilities lasts 30 seconds, but it refreshes up to 10 seconds when a new ability is added.

Q: Abyssal Ray - Albadeer shoots a laser from his current location, dealing 60/90/120/150/180 +65% AP damage and slowing all enemies struck by 40/45/50/55/60% for 1 second. Costs 70 MP and has a 12/11/10/9/8 second cooldown. If this ability is stored, Arcane flash deals +25% AP damage and it passes through units.

W: Low Of Solipsism - Albadeer places a tether between him and an ally or enemy champion. If an enemy is targeted, they lose 10/12.5/15/17.5/20% of their main attack stat (adaptive) and grant Albadeer half of that. If an ally is targeted, they both heal for 20/25/30/35/40 +8% AP per second. Either way, this tether lasts up to 4 seconds, but can be broken by leaving range. Costs 90/100/110/120/130 MP and has a 32/28/24/20/16 second cooldown. If this ability is stored, Arcane Flash gains 30% spellvamp and becomes a targeted ability.

E: Grasp Of The Underneath - Albadeer calls forth an arcane copy of the Hand of the Unnamed, which then grabs enemies standing over it for 1.5/1.75/2/2.25/2.5 seconds. They are still able to move using abilities, but they have their movement speed reduced to 0. Upon being grabbed, they take 40/50/60/70/80 +8% (+2% per 100AP) max health damage. Costs 70/80/90/100/110 mana and has a 12 second cooldown. If this ability is stored, the enemy is marked by the Unnamed for 4 seconds. While marked, their abilities costs 40 extra mana (if they have mana) or 25 HP if they don't. Additionally, Arcane Flash deals damage within a 125 unit radius of the target (does not apply marks to secondary targets).

R: The Tomes - Passively, Albadeer has a collection of books floating around him numbering 3/4/5. Each book increases his cooldown reduction by 4% while active and one regenerates every 45 seconds. Actively, Albadeer reads from one of the books, reducing his cooldowns by 2 seconds and recovering 10% missing mana. This takes 1 second to complete. When stored, Arcane Flash is set on a 2/1.5/1 second cooldown with whatever stored abilities it had previously except this one. If all four abilities were put in it, Albadeer gains 40% movement speed for 2 seconds.
