Passive Concept - High stacking damage debuff
BASICS
So this idea is pretty simple but I think it would make for a very unique and fun mage
the concept is primarily about "powering up". here is a basic version of the passive if it was made in game
Stacking Debuff - passive - stacking debuff puts one stack any time you deal damage (autoattack or spell) to an enemy. The stacks increase the damage of your spells against the target by x and last for x seconds (30+ seconds, ie VERY LONG).
this seems pretty basic, but it would create a lot of cool play for lane and also for sieging. it puts fighting this champion on a soft "timer", where you have to fight them or kill them before they start dealing too much damage. it wouldn't fall off unless they went away or you back
IN GAME
to create some potential numbers let's talk about how it would be balanced. for early game the buff needs to stack EXTREMELY slowly, since your generally going to be fighting the same opponent for minutes and minutes. so let's stay the debuff can stack up to 100. at the start of the game you would probably get 1 stack per time you hit an enemy and spell cooldowns would be longer. the champion would also probably either be short ranged (400-450 aa range) or melee to prevent them from stacking too easily with autoattacks. the actual stack damage should probably be something like 1 + (.05) which at max stacks would effectively add a .5ap ratio and 100 base damage to EVERY SPELL (ap ratio makes it so support version wouldn't be super strong)
as you reach midgame and you start getting into skirmishes the stacks would probably go up to 3 per hit (either level 9 or 11). at this point you would be able stack pretty effectively in extended sieges and the shortened temporary laning that would occur at this stage, but would be pretty underwhelming compared to other mages at this stage of the game
as you reach LATEGAME, the stacks per hit would probably go up to 5 or 6. with lower cooldowns and high stacks, this champion can suddently build up full stacks in less than a minute easily, and sieging and poke battles suddently become SUPER dangerous. this would be an AMAZING lategame and siege mage who is both interesting to try and play around and to play. If you are able to kill them quickly lategame they still pose only a minor threat, but with proper protection and also in the right comps and situations, a champion with this passive could REALLY shine
Strengths and weaknesses
strengths-
sieging - this kind of passive would give AMAZING sieging ability. once a siege has been started for awhile, basically the other team has to either give up or try and engage and kill you quickly.
laning in a safe/farm lane - the passive if you play safe and properly would make this an extremely lane dominant champion after a few minutes into the game. hit with a few spells and autos and by level 4 or 5 suddently your spells are hitting like trucks while the enemies still barely scratch you
extended teamfights - fights around baron or dragon would probably go well for this champion as long as their team protects them and is able to disengage
weaknesses -
engages - a heavy engage team would destroy this passive, since you wouldn't have time to stack up. also because this champion would be so focused on stacking their passive, they would probably have little mobility or utility
laning in an aggresive lane - once this champion falls behind in lane it's really hard to get back in. having to back resets your stacks and would set you SUPER behind. being able to spam spells would help with farming though so laning shouldn't be too hard
jungler ganks - this champion would be EXTREMELY weak against ganks. a new champion joining the fight would mean you would have 0 stacks and do no damage :/ the chances of coming out of a good flank would be pretty low compared to other champions
fast teamfights - in a quick teamfight, there really isn't much this champion would be able to do, even in late game 10 or 15 seconds is just not enough time to stack up and be able to kill enemies. any type of flanking would be discouraged if a team has this champion.
Character Traits - things this champion probably needs to work
low mobility - with such strong power when alive for extended fights, it should be a TEAM effort to keep this champion alive, rewarded with easy objective wins and kills, and punished with very little damage done.
high base damage and high base cooldowns - in lane this champion would be EXTREMELY snowbally if their damage is nonexistent without stacks. but being able to stack to easily would also make them snowbally. I think it's important to make early level spells have longer cooldowns, but also to give the initial damage to be pretty good. This would give a way back in for both the champion AND the enemy. it should be kept in mind that later ranks in most spells will have MUCH shorter cooldowns
heavily skillshot based - with enough time to fight/siege, this champion basically becomes unstoppable, making most or all of their damage skillshot based would be important to making sure they can't just push all the way to the nexus with the right comp around them, you have to HIT those spells.
medium range - this champion needs to be at SOME risk to deal damage since every time they deal damage they get stronger. Low range is not really an option for a champion like this, but I think something with the range of
would be a little too oppresive. probably something like the range of
or
would be better
SPELL CONCEPTS
for spell ideas, this champions needs to be able to get lots of stacks, and at least be able to get SOME if he is fighting long enough. a few spells that can miss easily are important, but also at least one spell on a longer cooldown that will almost always get stacks would probably be ideal
1. line skillshot - medium mana cost, long base cd that goes down heavily at lower ranks (ex. 11/9/7/5/3) - deals x damage and refunds mana on champion hit, full refund on kill.
this spell would give the champion lots of power in lane even with the long cooldown. being able to refund even PARTIAL mana on champion hit is amazing. it would let you really spam early and mid game with skillful play, while not being obnoxious for csing. it would be the primary way to get stacks in lane and also on the frontline in teamfights
2. aoe circle skillshot - medium mana cost, long cooldown (ex. 24) - explodes every second for x (ex. 2-3) seconds in small area, dealing x damage and slowing by x%
this spell would allow you to easily stack at least one stack on multiple people, but with combination of other spells could potentially hit 2 or 3 times. the big problem is how much damage it could do at high stacks, but with a super high cooldown and with a slow missile speed and the 1 second delay, I think it could be pretty well balanced, and SUPER STRONG for wombo combos. either way though. this spell would need extremely low base damage/ratio or else high stack casts would wreck teams super easily.
- aoe circle skillshot (think velkoz e) - high cost, medium cooldown (ex. 20/19/18/17/16). deals x damage in large aoe
this would be how the champion consistantly builds stacks on teams. it would be a pretty average cooldown with lots of cdr. the damage would be fairly low but with free stacks in a large radius it would be great for getting stacks on squishies
- ULTIMATE IDEA - aoe circle skillshot (small) - high cost, medium ult cooldown (ex. 160/140/120) - adds x stacks of passive to targets hit (ex. 30) and roots them for x seconds
this move would help a little with the primary weakness of this passive. it let's you build up stacks instantly but only on a few people since it would be a small radius. Overall I think the ability to instantly apply a large amount of stacks is NECESSARY for an ultimate with this passive, but perhaps changing it's target type (single target skillshot/ single target point and click) would maybe be options and also the extra effects it causes other than stacking the debuff.
THESE ARE ONLY A FEW SPELL EXAMPLES, I'M SURE BETTER CAN BE MADE BUT THIS WAS JUST A BASE TO START WITH
**so.. for those still reading, does this seem like a viable idea? any thoughts on if this passive would be fun or how it might work out on a champion
I personally think it would be SUPER cool to see this passive on a champion and who knows, maybe the right person will see it. but I would love feedback on this concept :)**
