Some Questions and my Opinions

Why did Riot decide to close down GD and switch to this reddit-esque format? I have nothing to say that you haven't already heard about how user unfriendly the forums are. Another question: Why did you guys close off GD? There were some posts that had major popularity (including one of my own) and that have trouble regaining said popularity on boards, thus the post dies in the dark maw of elo hell. In my opinion, boards feels sloppy, hard to navigate, and ruins the forum experience for most people (including me). Anyway, feedback would be nice and thanks for reading.

The only question I see that you've asked is "Why did they switch?" which has been answered time and time again (well, only a couple times by rioters, when we were actually making the switch, but since then community members have been repeating that answer). tl;dr, because the old forum were broken, from a tech standpoint (blitzcrank/cragas errors all the time, and they were insecure) and a community standpoint (moderation didn't have the tools to deal with pr0n posting, shitposting, etc).

The more interesting question, I think, is "Why was the switch made now, when Boards is still clearly in Beta (not a finished product)?

I know that question has been asked many times, but i've never received an answer. However, my main concern is the fact they shut down the forums. Was that really necessary?

Yes.

I don't know what was going on internally, but I still don't think it needed to happen that instant. The transition was incredibly rushed, and it really shows in how silent those responsible for the transition have been lately.

That being said, the old forum really did need to be phased out eventually. The old GD community essentially bred toxicity, and Riot had very limited resources for making any improvements to the platform. Having the community split down the middle is bad for everyone, which is why leaving it open wasn't ideal.
