Can't Middle Click on Links (Chrome)

Normally in Chrome you can hold ctrl and click on a link or middle click to open it in a new tab instantly so you don't have to reload the previous page when you switch back it. Recently however, I've noticed that I can no longer middle click the "I understand, I'm going in" button or the link itself, so I have to navigate away from the thread to look at a link. Is this an intended behaviour?
