Why is there a downvote feature on the boards?

Does riot want to encourage toxicity and circlejerks who downvote intelligent posts into oblivion for disagreeing with them? I personally would like a world full of rainbows, unicorns and where everyone gets along but that requires the satisfaction of the community with how all features of league is run (boards, the game and the policing of content creation in general).

At the moment it resembles a resentful military state that cracks down on people like giving jail sentences for letting a parking meter run out...

EDIT: My point exactly

EDIT: My point exactly

Let's go over a few of the things you've said here that resulted in my downvote, just to give you an idea of why I've done so.

Of course they don't, and intelligent posts with good points almost invariably have a net result of upvotes, not downvotes. Feel free to provide examples if you disagree, but your statement here is an opinion phrased as a question.

This is not how a healthy community functions, even in a perfect world where it were possible. People thrive on a certain measure of friction, and removing that basically removes the entire point of communication in the first place.

that requires the satisfaction of the community with how all features of league is run (boards, the game and the policing of content creation in general).

There's a reason Riot is the developer, not the community at large. People are notoriously bad at knowing what they actually want, and allowing us to create our own experience would be far more likely to ruin it than to enhance it.

At the moment it resembles a resentful military state that cracks down on people like giving jail sentences for letting a parking meter run out...

I'm sorry but this is just an absurd analogy. Not only is it an impossible connection, it's a blatant escalation of your own biases.

Basically, the point I'm getting at is that your thread is not being downvoted by trolls for being intelligent; it's being downvoted because the points you make are not substantiated and it's essentially just a pretense to support your opinions.

At this point, no attention is bad attention, if it offended someone so much that they click a button to downvote you, you reached them in some manner. The fact that it is done in mundane and counter-intuitive way, that it can be done anonymously without describing why they did what they did and why they disagree.

I doubt people are downvoting this thread because it's an intelligent post.

If down votes did not exist, the most useless of posts would also gather upvotes, if for no other reasons than trolls or those with bad taste thinking something was funny and should be seen more. A upvote/no vote system can't keep quality content seen and trash out of sight like an upvote/no vote/downvote system can.

FYI, comparing the community to a military state was a rather tasteless thing to say and wrong on many levels, which is why you're getting so many down votes.

Maybe I misjudged the factor of the passage of time, developing your skills over the English language.

Got off the subject a bit ?

For one thing it gives Riot a rough Ideal of what the players want/like or don't want. I down voted you because It seems to me your OS is worded in a way to start arguments and I just simply disagree. On a related note: I would not have had to open this thread or comment in it to know I wanted to downvote it.
