Numbering doesn't work as expected

1. This was created with the number 1. But some people will not indent like they are supposed to.

Like this.

2. And so this also shows up as 1 even though I used number 2.

It is also annoying when you're quoting someone who used numbering.

3. Like this, which also shows up as 1 even though it's 3.

tl;dr Either a smarter system, or one that just uses your own numbers instead of auto-numbering would be nice. Thanks!

EDIT: A function to let you paragraph-break but keep indents would be an interesting solution. Maybe just "\ " to keep the formatting of the previous paragraph (a lot like "\*" inserts asterisk instead of starting italics). Something like:

1. test \ This would then be indented instead of outdented and the "\" would be hidden.
