Lesser of two evils: The old forums need to stay, to preserve how nice these are currently

Since the Boards launched, GD has gotten even worse. It's like a magnet for all of the hate and idiocy that plagues video game forums. The Boards, on the other hand, are avoiding the lion's share of it. Most of the people contributing to the unpleasant community discussions hate the Boards and love GD. At first, I thought this was a terrible thing, fracturing the community. But now, I realize I was wrong. We don't WANT all of that to come over here. Let the hate and the toxicity stay in GD. Keep the old forums around to serve as a lightning rod for it. If Riot ends up removing the old forums, all of it will come over here, and nobody wants that.

Well there are a few things:

1.) Riot has said that there is always going to be the old forums. The intention is to make these forums so good that people will -want- to come here instead of feeling forced to. (Albeit they could definitely work on that)

2.) The old forums aren't a "lightning rod" for bad people, they're just popular. I'm sure if you search around you'll find negativity here too, it's just smaller because (Likewise) the community here is smaller

3.) I read some of the comments and ya'll sons of bitches need to chill out.

4.) Both forums have problems. Does GD have circlejerk? Of course it does. Does this forum have circlejerk? Again, of course. Both communities have extremes of positivity and negativity. Trying to say either is better than the other is a lie. This forum needs work. The old forums cannot stay the way they are. Either you can contribute to this forum and fix problems/make suggestions or go back to GD and let this one take longer to improve. The choice, totally yours.

Likewise with the circle jerk mentality here. Keep it here to fester and corrupt any actual conversation.

Whether or not GD happens all over again here on the Boards will depend entirely on Riot's will to resist it.

On the one hand, you have the inconsistent or flat out non-existent moderation that occurred over the last 4 years. With no clear guidelines, and minimal enforcement of those guidelines, nobody had a frame of reference for what was and was not OK. On top of the random bans with no warning and questionable reasoning that were handed out over that time period. It bred an atmosphere where, quite literally, anything was acceptable for at least an hour before receiving action, if action was received at all.

On the other hand, every forum other than GD has become a ghost town. This is because, over the course of those 4 years, very few Rioters would go to any forum other than GD, let alone post in them. This formed the (factually correct) notion that if you wanted a Rioter to see it, it had to be posted in GD. As the post-count in other forums declined in recognition of this fact, it grew to the point where if you wanted anyone to see anything, it had to be in GD. If Rioters are not active across multiple boards, hopefully the ones relating to their job roles where they can actually talk about things with confidence, the same thing will happen here where the only board that gets any attention (and with it, the majority of posts from, to, or by anyone) will be Miscellaneous. Which will end up exactly like GD, just with less shitposting and more hiveminding.

Fair enough because we're happy over there. We're happy, you're happy, everybody is happy so just leave us be Riot
