So, I hopped back over to WoW, and it got me thinking.
I gave in and went back to WoW since Warlords launched. Figured it would be fun for a while, and I was right (so far, at least). Then, I made the mistake of checking out the community. Forums, fan-sites, what have you.
Man, I thought we were bad over here with the attitude of "It's different, therefore I hate it." If WoW forums are any indication, that's part of the agreement you sign when you install the game over there. I mean, we get stuff in League like "I'm leaving after X years because this isn't the game I love anymore" and "This Champion is not the one I bought! I hate you!", but it's WAY worse in WoW, it seems like. NO change goes by without the community erupting into back-in-my-day's and threats of unsubbing (especially good changes).
I can't believe the WoW devs can handle talking to the playerbase at all. I thought we were bad over here. I really did. Every time a Champion gets reworked or a system gets overhauled, we get the same stuff, but the WoW playerbase sits on that platform all day, every day. Hell, I just saw someone on the official forums asking for the ammo system back for hunters, and he got upvotes!
It got me thinking: why is it so much worse over there? Why are the players so attached to old things, even if they're terrible? Why are they so afraid of change, relative to LoL players?
I'm not sure exactly, but it's a little scary. It could simply be a function of game age. Which, if that's true, I FEAR for what the playerbase turns into after a few more years of League.
