I have been on the boards since they were the community beta, and in the last 24 hours I have seen such an increase in trolls, spam, and off- forum discussions, that I have been sickened.

You knew the quality of most GD'rs, and you didnt enact some sort of user/subforum ignore when viewing the main boards. I have not seen any excessive moderation, just the number of spammers rapidly increasing.

EDIT: http://imgur.com/mqVZk0P

Got any plans to fix this, or are the boards being put out to sea as-is?

The spamming will get fixed, there's no doubt about that.

As for the trolls and off topic discussion I was in the same boat as you until last night. I made some random comment about wanting the old GD back so all these people would leave and we could get back to constructive conversations when Tamat replied to me and changed my mind.

The truth is, this is a skill. One that we weren't teaching very well in the old forums. If you want to be part of this community, then we want to help you get there. That's definitely a goal on the moderation side. We know there's a learning curve, but the players who try to change their posting habits for the Boards will have a lot of help getting there. It's the one's that don't want to change that we want to go somewhere else. Having a better community starts here guys. If we can create an active non-toxic community in the Boards, it will have positive effects on the entire community. :)

These boards won't end up like the old forum so long as we make a legitimate attempt at showing these people how to get their points across in a constructive and organized manner. It will take a bit of effort, but with the Mods having this point of view I think we can actually pull it off.

With anything I would say give it time.

Report them! Mods will get them pretty fast with reporting.
