In short, a back and forth discussion is appropriate for forums, and this nested tree structure is only suitable when you have an OP and nothing after it is of any importance.
Lololol I love this example beyond any words. That being said, I believe there is a hidden feature where we can insert "?show=flat" into the URL and it will display the nested comments in a vBulletin format. That code might be wrong, I can't remember it exactly.
I love your example but disagree with your point. Nested discussions have their place and can be made easy to follow with the right formatting. Old school Slashdot, for example. The problem is that these boards do not use appropriate comment filtering/formatting to make it easy to follow the flow of conversation.
Also the nesting limit sucks.
