What if each time you commented, you got the ability to vote once?

You still can't stuff more then one vote onto any post, though.

Basically, it puts emphasis on commenting as the main method of community contribution, as opposed to voting. It also absolutely kills vote bots and vote spammers (both of which have plagued GD), since they won't be able to keep voting without making posts that would reveal them as bots or spammers.

This has been suggested before a few times (once by myself actually).

Two main problems:

  • What is to be done with low-effort and spam OP's?
  • This will create a lot of low-effort comments, in other words comments made with the sole intent of giving a vote.

Just playing devil's advocate here.

I up voted this - then decided to leave this comment to show TRUE support of the idea.

Two quick things on this topic:

  • If the goal is to make commenting the main method of community contribution, why not just weight comments to be more important than votes?
  • As ArmaMalum mentioned, low-effort commenting would be a huge problem. Look at GD as an example; is the concept of people saying "bump" on a thread valuable at all?
