Instead of Best/Recent use a slider

I think the most annoying thing about selecting best or recent from the dropdown menu is that it's too binary. For instance, if I want to see popular threads that are somewhat old, but not top of the line in popularity then I'll have a hard time finding them.

Instead of a dropdown menu could you make a slider that scales from best to recent, giving each an appropriate weight when sorting threads?

Edit: So what I mean is if you look at the picture you have a generic slider. Moving the slider all the way to the left would make the thread sorting algorithm behave like it already does when on best. Moving it all the way to the right would make it behave like recent. Anywhere in between interpolates the weight. So if you put it at the halfway point you get the hot behavior.

I see where you're going but I don't really know how that could work besides maybe doing "Best this month" ->"Best this week"->"Best today" kind of thing. Is that what you're thinking?

Huh, yeah, I'm just trying to think what values could possibly be being adjusted by said slider in between to adjust the order. I'm not sure I see how this will be useful as well. I personally would not want my ordering as "kinda Hot but sorta Recent" I would just want to set to to one of the three and simply scroll down a bit.

However, as for your problem of wanting to see older posts, there has been a response mentioning the Beta team working on a favoriting feature.

The most obvious time I'd want something like this is to look for new-ish posts that have gained traction. With Best I'm just going to get the all time best which are probably not going to change. With Recent I'm going to get anything new, regardless of popularity. With Hot you get some upvoted stuff, but most of it's just just newer posts. Sliding it 3/4 to Best would weight popularity heavily, but not discount novelty.

In terms of the math, I'm sure Riot already uses some numerical score for how recent or how popular a thread is. It's just a matter of weighting them by the slider amount.
