@Riot why can't we have custom profile icons?

I don't see any disadvantages to it, and all of the other online forums I know have them. Just curious, why aren't we allowed to have custom icons except in very special cases?

As long as we had to pay for it, then maybe. I'm also pretty sure that all summoner icons are actually on your machine so there is no download of it. It would probably a larger change than one would expect. (ie. when you join a match you DL summoner name and Icon).

There was a plugin you could download for the forums... i forget what it was called, but it allowed you to see and set custom avatars, including animated ones. it also let you see upvotes and downvotes separately.
