Lifetime upvotes received are now visible on player’s profiles

One of the big areas of focus for this year will be to build features that are designed to encourage players to post great content as well as encourage players to participate in the voting and curation process.

We added a counter on player profiles that shows the total number of up-votes that each player as received in their board lifetime which we hope will be a great opportunity for reflection and encouragement for posters.

Stay tuned for more in the coming months and please share any feedback you have

I have more upvotes than you, Pendragon. Clearly I am more helpful and intelligent than you are.

Seriously, people already like collecting upvotes instead of posting good content, stop encouraging them.

While it does feel good with my raging e-boner from looking at my lifetime upvotes, but really, we should encourage people to put out actually insightful and/or helpful comments instead of rallying the crowd to tryhard-farm upvotes.

Have you been to reddit or facebook (and other places like that)? While it is true some really sarcastic yet funny jokes over there truly deserve an upvote but the general attitude there is just pretty mindless.

Summoner 1: posts a very logical and well thought out arguement Summoner 2: Well bro, as you can see, I've gotten 10k more upvotes than you. So....clearly, I'm right and you're wrong.

Does the upvote total include the automatic +1 we all get when we post anything? I'm aware this metric doesn't actually matter or affect anything, but that would be silly.

oh lord.

So I'm assuming the counter includes not only your own points but the cumulative points of the comments on your posts, as that's where I imagine mine are coming from.

As for the very valid fear of point whoring and the many people bringing that up: The metric is not actively advertised and does not give any accolades. So if we as a community don't put much emphasis on it then it won't be a problem. Just laugh at anyone think having more upvotes validates them in any way. And then proceed to chastise them, negative feedback to deny the general behavior. Works on Imgur!

Do you worry that this will lead to "I have more upvotes than you so I am clearly right"?

People already say stuff like "Bronze players shouldn't have opinions". What happens when people decide "Less than 500 upvotes means your opinion mean nothing"?

So players that frequent more popular boards get more upvotes in general, meaning I should frequent those boards as well?

WHAT?!?

Let the upvote fishing commence!

Wait, I have 9.2k upvotes total?

O.O

If you really want to encourage players I think you should make it a little more visible and show it somewhere when they post, whether it be the global tally, some kind of badge system, or whatever.

Really, how often do people dive into someone's profile to check it out?
