The "Report" option on Boards

What does this even do? I rarely report a comment (usually just downvote and move on) but some stuff on here needs to be reported. While reporting a response today, it got me thinking "What am I actually doing when I hit this button?"

A mod will take a look at the thread/comment and determine if it was against forum policy, and either remove or ignore it accordingly.

Not sure if 1 report flags a comment or if it takes several people's reports before they look, though.

I'm 90% sure one comment does it, unless other people actually report witch hunting as much as I do.

Do you mean that question literally? Then, I would presume it sends a little notice to a list that the Rioter in charges of boards checks; it's how other boards work.

This!

On any forum / messaging board that I have worked on, these reports get thrown into a queue of reports that have been made. Depending on how the back-end was built out you can often times view by severity (in this case what it was reported for) and how many reports were made against a specific post.

The THEORY: Friendly players report a toxic player's behavior, and the more this happens, the more likely the toxic player will be punished by restrictions and bans, making the community a friendlier place.

The REALITY: Toxic players report friendly players whom they blame when they lose the game, and the more this happens, the more likely the friendly player will be punished by restrictions and bans, making the community a more toxic place.

The entire system is automated - the report button is just a griefing tool used by toxic players. It used to be looked over by people, and the punishments were fair, but it's that way anymore.

Check out this link, and read this guy's ban report. There are lots of incidents like this, but I'm not going to post tons of links - this one can stand for all:

If one does check out that link, you see that he got banned for his behavior in other games, that games was just the one that triggered the review. The poster even acknowledged this himself.
