PSA: Tyler1 did NOT get his accounts unbanned
Been seeing this a ton across a few different boards today. Let's take a minute to go over the difference between Tyler1 'getting unbanned' and your permaban.
What happens when you get permabanned? Riot locks your account and that's it. Nobody ever gets to use that account ever again. It's gone. Bye bye. Although Riot doesn't encourage it, you can make a new account and start from scratch. Your new account will be subject to the exact same summoner code and you obviously start at the beginning of the punishment tiers.
"But T1 got unbanned, why can't I?!"
Tyler1 had what is known as an ID ban. What this means is that any account that Tyler1 played on would be permabanned on sight even if he made absolutely zero violations of the summoner code.
Tyler1 had his ID ban lifted, but all of his banned account will still remain permabanned. He doesn't get any of them back. He is not getting any special treatment that you aren't. Just like you, those accounts are gone forever. Period. He is now free to make a new account and play as long as he abides by the summoner code, just like you.
"Riot said he would be banned forever but they lied!"
They said no such thing. Riot says ID bans are indefinite. Now, "indefinite" is often used interchangeably with "forever", but that isn't what the word means. Let's take a look at the definition:
in·def·i·nite ˌinˈdef(ə)nət adjective lasting for an unknown or unstated length of time.
Do we understand the difference? Good. Indefinite =/= forever. Perfect.
To summarize, Tyler1 isn't getting any special treatment that you are not. He's not getting his accounts back. You're not getting your account back either. Awesome. Glad we had this talk.
