prohibit use of low mastery champs?

Can we please get like some rule that requires people to have at least hit lv.2 mastery with a champ? because I was stuck with some douche who wanted to do 1st time Aurelion in ranked (checked him on op.gg, literally never played aurelion), solely because I didn't want to go adc in his place (I'm SO BAD at adc so of course I'd decline). :/

I wouldn't mind, but I could see issues - for example if someone asked you to first-pick them a champion you don't have mastery on you wouldn't be able to; would severely limit champion swapping.

  1. People have multiple accounts.

  2. People have PBE accounts.

  3. People may have matches that do not show on op.gg/match history (ex: AI/custom games from certain seasons)

You can't say for certain whether someone's never played a champ or not.

Honestly, it is kind of pointless. I've seen mastery 7 people who are terrible. I understand what this thread is talking about. I had a dude first time Nunu support or something in ranked once because he thought he'd seen it be good or whatever. I don't know. It was terrible.

But the thing is, master restrictions don't really reliable help that. Yes, someone with mastery gives a higher chance of familiarity with the champion. In my opinion, though, that skill level is debatable regardless. I've seen mastery 7s who deserve their mastery, I've seen mastery 7s who were not... very good players in general or at the champion, but have played a lot, and somehow hit the tokens, and I've seen mastery 4 players who put the 7s to shame.

Mastery gating as a way to better ensure people can play their champions doesn't seem very reliable to me. Sure, they may have basics down, which is better than 1st timers, but I don't think that will reliably improve your chance of victory as much as you may think.

Just because someone didn't steal as much cs and as many kills as they possibly could in their normal games, they're not allowed to play ranked?

Horrible idea.

But what if I have enough game knowledge and general skill that I can easily and quickly adapt to new champions/champions I haven't played in a while? Some people (like myself) have a large number of Champions unlocked, but a good lump-some of those Champions get neglected for various reasons. Even still - I can play those Champions well, so, why should I have to not play them because they're below Mastery Level 2?

(which, by the way, Mastery Level 2 is an extremely arbitrary gate of entry, because all it takes is like, three wins and bam. You're there. That's hardly a good indicator of skill.)
