How do you prove that this is the case without prohibiting legitimate cases where I go into a queue wanting already to ban Zed?

How do you effectively balance that player’s “right” to play a champion, and my right to ban the champion I want to ban?

Thanks for asking. After some thought here is my answer:

I'd give priority to the player who wants to play the champ. I would change the rules so that as long as a champ is highlighted through pick-intent by a teammate, it can no longer be banned.

Champions are the gateway to league. Teammates removing a highlighted pick completely re-defines that players experience by forcing them on to an entirely different vehicle.

I don't feel preventing a ban is as damaging to a teammates player experience because it deals with the opposition rather than the player directly.

How do you prevent someone “griefing” by hovering a champion who is “pick or ban” as last pick, knowing damn well that the enemy team (who has first pick) will likely get them?

Champions are the gateway to League - but there are over 100 of them. You are not always guaranteed your desired champion in the game. In fact, I think it would cause more damage to disallow players to ban champions they don’t want in the game. To be quite honest, sometimes my bans are based just as much on who I don’t want the enemy to play as who I don’t want to play with - and this is one of the reasons bans hold priority over picks.

That's an interesting point. We aren't guaranteed a desired champ, but we are guaranteed a ban on whatever we like.

I'm someone who invests heavily into a handful of favored champions, so it's really annoying when a teammate decides to forcefully deny me my intended experience for their personal reasons , or just because they can. I also care more about my experience than my opponents.

But, I can understand your views from the perspective of someone who just views league as over 100 interchangeable champs and wants to deny his opponent or control his teammates to a degree.

What if someone is an OTP and their teammate target bans their main? Stuff like that happened to some streamers like Shaclone, where his teammates target banned his Shaco just to tilt him. Bans should NEVER hold priority over picks, it just creates toxic enviroment. Like you said, there are over 100 champion in League, if you teammates wants to play one of them, you can ban 99+ other champions :)

For me, i have a set of 3 champs i look to ban, Leo, then Trynd, then Yi, in that order, i one is on my team i figure I will let them have a chance, even if they would not get it high in the pick phase.

It's annoying, but hard to prove. I've taken to only using pick intent AFTER the banning phase when I'm going to play something that my teammates aren't likely to be happy with.

Yea that's the hard reality. I've started either falsely highlighting other champs or just leaving my intended pick box blank
