"KYS" means "kill yourself", and I'm pretty sure you already knew that.

They do, yes. Like other phrases that may have multiple meanings, one specifically offensive (and relatively common) meaning makes the phrase unacceptable.

If you want to use "kys" to mean "kiss," just type out the extra letter and write "kiss."

That is the dumbest, most childish logic I've ever been exposed to. When someone gets mad at me and says "kys you pos" it's obviously negative. You know how many times I've been told it means kiss yourself? One time too many. They were still punished.
