Multiple reports and other misconceptions

I've noticed a lot of misinformation flying around the PB&M boards lately regarding reporting so I thought I'd do some research on how reports work. I will list sources for all my information but summarize them briefly here to make things easier.

#How Do reports work in general / Who should I report?

When to report a player (via support.riotgames.com) How do reports work (via leagueoflegends.com)

I can't really summarize this part, but if you really want to understand reports this stuff is mandatory reading so get to it.

#Do Multiple Reports in a single game count extra? Multiple reports in a single game match do not increase the weight nor escalate the reported player's punishments in any way.

Sources: What happens if premades all report you (via RiotLyte's ask.fm) Reporting in Dynamic Queue (via RiotLyte's ask.fm)

#Can I be reported if I haven't broken any rules?

No, false reports are found by the system when it cannot match a report to negative behavior in game. The reporting player may eventually find their reports aren't very effective if they frequently abuse the system.

Sources: Are you guys able to tell false reports (via RiotLyte's ask.fm) Will my account be punished if I am reported when I did nothing wrong? (via instant feedback FAQ

#How do I report people for adding me and flaming me after the game?

If it is a serious matter you can send player support a ticket but most summoners report that Riot's stance on messages sent through the client has been something close to:

"If somebody is harassing you in game, do not accept their friend request, block them and report them using the in game system for any negative behavior in game"

There is no official source for an official stance on this issue. This is merely the consensus of summoners that have dealt with this issue and player support regarding said issue.

#I never see the "Player has been punished" pop-up, are my reports working?

The "Player has been punished" pop-up is only sent to the last people that reported a player and triggered the punishment. You won't always see it even if your reports helped get them there, and you won't know who was punished on in what way, just that you were the one that got the last report in.

Your reports are always working. They are compiled and analyzed to help make the system work better for us players, for more specific information see the article How do reports work.

#What are the punishments for being reported?

Typically Punishments will follow a typical escalation path. Each time an account is punished it becomes more severe than the last time.

First Offense: 10 Game Chat Restriction Second Offense: 25 Game Chat Restriction Third Offense: Two Week Suspension Fourth Offense: Permanent Suspension

However, it is possible to skip to a Two Week or Permanent suspension based on the severity of the behavior in the game. Excessive negative behavior can result in a Two-Week or Permanent suspension at any time without having a chat restriction on the account.

That isn't just "lately", the misconception has been around since they changed the reform system to a 4 tier system.

Even if you sticky this thread, too many people will still not read anything.

Though, the attempts to awareness is better than no awareness at all.

Hope this thread can get stickied. Its got the sources that I'm too lazy to find.

How can players know if their reports are accurate / 'true' and that they're not just biased by salt at the time?

I really wish there was some private and impersonal feedback to let you know your reports are accurate

this http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/dq9R8E7t-dump-comm-ban-create-toxic-troll-ban would fix that.

no judgement or report sifting , even report writing required, TOXIC players accumulate a poor rating and either receive longer queue times before outright banning, either way u have to play with a DETERMiNED TROLL ONCE

sureit will take weeks to weed them out, but then they either change or are GONE, and the rest of us are free to TRY TO WIN.Jhin

I've added the punishment tiers to the list but I'd rather not make a habit of copying over easy-to-find support articles. This thread is not intended as a replacement for searching support.leagueoflegends.com but merely to bring harder to locate information (From Red Posts on the boards, reddit, or ask.fm, chiefly) into one location

Bumping this because it deserves not to be forgotten about.

Bookmarking this.

Multiple reports in a single game match do not increase the weight nor escalate the reported player's punishments in any way.

People still seem to think this being the case.

I was called "brain dead" as a response just now when I pointed this out, after 3 of the 5 on the other team called reports on someone in all-chat. I reported all 3. And not the one they called the reports on.

Are there any difference about reports in North America/Europe (major regions) from reports in Brazil, Latin America, Russia or Turkey (minor regions)?

Nice thread; it might also help if you posted the ban tier system along w/ the time it takes to drop a tier as well.

Thanks for putting it all in a single thread for everyone.
