If you go afk during a game for several minutes, what's the punishment?

In the last 2 days I've had many games (5 or even more) during which one of my teammates went afk, dc'd or ragequitted altogether.

I'm pretty tired of having to deal with this kind of players, so I wanted to know if they will eventually receive some form of punishment. Right now it seems like everyone is able to abandon games every once in a while and walk away scot-free, so it feels like their behaviour is being legitimized.

They are placed in low priority Q where they must wait 5+ min before a match before they can be matched up for 5 games.

Really? That's a really bland form of punishment. I do understand now why they act like that: it's because there are almost no negative consequences for their behaviour.

Programmatically determining who rage quit vs who raged then had their power go out is pretty tough without resorting to NSA levels of privacy invasion. Riot prefers to think the best of people, thus the lighter punishment at first. It kicks up to 20 minute waits before each game if they keep it up.

That's if they actually get detected, and based on the number of people I see AFK'ing for several minutes at a time, it's pretty easy to workaround.

I always get people that walk to turret then AFK until it gets the point of 'stay active or get disconnected for AFK' then they move a second or two and do it again, AFK'ing for 10+ minutes of an entire game with no punishment

The system detects that behavior too, though obviously it won't be perfect at it; your reports for AFK'ing like this help, and players trying to game the system can end up being manually reviewed and given significant punishments for it instead of just Leaver Buster penalties.

I have never once said what you claim, not even right here. I have more faith in the systems due to being more knowledgeable about them. I'm just as concerned about their faults as anyone else and have my own criticisms anyway.

We've had cases here on the board (more frequently in Help & support boards) with someone claiming that they never AFKed and got leaver bustered.

When a Rioter looks at their account, they'll reply and say that "but you were AFK for 10 mins, you were just clicking around the fountain trying to fool it."

You'll need to be alot smarter than just clicking around the fountain to fool the system. Not that the system is working perfectly, but for something so simple like "clicking around the fountain" is very easy to detect.

Keep in mind that the system can detect where you are standing, your click locations, your click frequency. It's alot smarter than what most people give it credit for.
