AFKs and Ranked

So the preseason was fun for me. Finally back into my Promos to Platinum, and I'm 2 wins and 1 loss. Easy shit, right? Fourth game I have my top lane go AFK for the first 8 minutes, then my jungler DC and run straight into their team. Fifth game we're up 10 kills. ADC goes AFK. And I'm out of my promos due to AFKs. Again.

3 of my next 5 games had an AFK in it, with the fifth having a DC for 10 minutes, dropping me to gold 2.

I know there's nothing I can do about that now, it sucks, it happened. But Riot, what are you doing to address DCs and AFKs in ranked matches? Sure, this season promises that if someone doesn't connect at the beginning everyone can quit the match, that's a good start.

Will we be getting a "Safe to Leave" option? Can DCed players become bots? Can we control said bots? There are countless other multiplayer games treating AFKs/DCs in a much better manner. Why aren't these implemented in League?

The system at the moment is far too punishing for something at no fault of the player.

AFK's are a problem right now (and TBH they always have been), Lyte said they are working on a system where the team with the AFK will still lose LP, but the AFK player will lose more. Source

Personally I don't play ranked until the new patch has been out for at lest 3 days so that way people can't blame it on the new patch. But that's just me.

I wanna bump this thread with a little substance here. Might seem obvious, but to put in perspective what a promo afker can really do.

Losing my promo places me at 90LP, meaning I need one more win to merely get back into my promos. From there I must win 3 of those games, averaging at 30 minutes each. This means in order to get that rank up, and assuming I do not lose a single match, and assuming each match does not last longer than 30 minutes each, that's another 120 hours of game time (ignoring que time and champ select, roughly another 20 minutes if no one dodges). If you lose a single one, well theres a good hour more due to said afk.

The system at the moment is far too punishing for something at no fault of the player. Are there any changes to remedy this? Are any additional measures being taken into consideration for AFKs?
