Can Riot pls give us an option to mute ourselves?

It would stop so much toxicity.

Especially because the trolls in my teams keep egging people on and provoking people.

Or you could learn a little bit of self control.

XinZhao2WinNhao1 votes

Damn hard when trolls keep insulting you nonstop and trying to troll you by refusing to group or heal you when you needed a heal.

Astôlfo2 votes

That's a you problem.

XinZhao2WinNhao1 votes

Try playing with someone who's throwing games because they don't understand the meaning of the word "help". It's fucking frustrating.

Astôlfo1 votes

Okay, so what? Still not an excuse to be an ass.

XinZhao2WinNhao1 votes

Never said it was. That's why we need an option to mute ourselves.

Because it's really taxing on your emotions when you're trying to win a ranked game and someone doesn't want to help and just wants to be a troll.

It's really a win-win solution that you can type whatever you want and not have it show up in the game.

They can't, because you can mute them.

and trying to troll you by refusing to group or heal you when you needed a heal.

They're going to refuse to group/heal you regardless of you being able to type or not.

"They're going to refuse to group/heal you regardless of you being able to type or not." It feels better to say something though.

Why does it hurt to have a self-mute button? It's really a win-win situation for everybody. You get the satisfaction of feeling you said something, and other people don't have to hear it.

DrCyanide1 votes

Because a self mute button is useless. You just turn it off and yell at them. Any feature that locks you out of chat before the game prevents you from chiming in if your team is typing a decision that seems good/bad. There's a reason that the Chat Restrictions still let you type.

The closest thing to what you're describing is the "/note" command (might be able to shorten it to "/n", but I'm not sure). It saves what you type after it into a file instead of sending it out to the other players.

Muting yourself... as in... don't type?

XinZhao2WinNhao2 votes

It's good to have an auto mute feature.

You can have the satisfaction of venting your anger as much as you want, and it doesn't show up in the game. It's a win win. Everyone's happy.

Unbind your enter key.

Vent aloud, and not in game.

Or, best of all, control your emotions rather than letting them control you.

DrCyanide1 votes

Talk out loud. It lets you vent, it doesn't show up in game, and you gain some self control. It's a win win win.

XinZhao2WinNhao1 votes

I can't do that. My parents get upset when they see me yelling about League at home.

Lemme get this right... you want them to create a game feature at the expense of doing other things just so you can type and flame and not be noticed?

XinZhao2WinNhao1 votes

Just use the same code as a chat restriction.

DrCyanide1 votes

People can (and do) still flame with a chat restriction.

chubb1002 votes

Just mute the trolls

S0kaX1 votes

Or don't flame remove the "Enter" key form your keyboard while you play.

XinZhao2WinNhao1 votes

Which one is easier? removing enter key or giving us an option to mute ourselves

ShinkoMinori2 votes

They want you to get banned so you spend more on lvling up an account and repurchasing everything else.

Astôlfo4 votes

Mind sharing that tinfoil hat?

S0kaX1 votes

Most keyboards have easier removal of keys

DrCyanide1 votes

Removing the enter key takes a few seconds, depending on the keyboard and experience with key removal, so that's easier.

XinZhao2WinNhao1 votes

My laptop has no key removal. Checkmate.

DrCyanide1 votes

Every laptop has a way to remove the keys. Shouldn't declare checkmate so early.

Which is easier? Developing a sense of self control or having a developed add a feature to do it for you?

Sukishoo1 votes

You could learn to just close the chat...

This is one of those 'learn a life lesson' moments.

if they are provoking and egging, chances are the self mute feature won't help them.

it would help those that don't have enough self control but don't want to be punished. which is a small percentage of the toxics.

XinZhao2WinNhao1 votes

You don't understand. Self mute isn't to help the toxics. It's to help the victims of toxics not get involved in back and forth retaliation while the toxics keep on egging them on and trying to get a reaction.

Kei1431 votes

Oh I know what you are referring to, that's what the regular mute is for.

Self mute is for someone like .. scazzman (you'll know him if you hang around here enough), where he has problems controlling his urge to type back, but doesn't want to mute them as they may have something important about gameplay to say.

Provokers won't self mute, cos what they want is a reaction, self muting makes them loose that ability to provoke.

However, if they are afraid if getting punished, then they can used the self mute, but then again, they fall back into the category of toxics afraid of being punished.

XinZhao2WinNhao1 votes

Self mute is more helpful. I don't like to mute teammates because no matter how annoying they are they might eventually say a few helpful things among all the bsullshit. With self mute I can turn on self mute, say a few things back to the player that aren't going to go into the game, turn off self mute and say something useful.

For example:

Toxic player: fuck you you shit piece of shit, kser noob (toxic bullshit) Me (self muted): fuck you too, you suck thats why you get ksed all the time Me (unmuted): gj guys we got the kill as a team, its ok Toxic player: 3 of us group base, 2 splitpush top and bot (useful info)

(mods might delete that post for naming and shaming if you keep the name in there, just giving a heads up, I had a post deleted for the same reason)

that's exactly who self mute is for!

Does it matter whether they're toxic at heart if they're not toxic into the game chat?

Kei1431 votes

from a punishment standpoint, no.

If you aren't toxic within the game environment (including pre/post game or in client chat), then Riot will be happy with you.

of all the (crappy) in-game behavioral features suggested, I do think that self mute will have the longest mile, though that mile isn't that long in the first place.

I'd rather them focus their efforts on improving on the out of game behavioral visibility and a better reform card before implementing self-mute.
