autofill CAUSES TROLLS. I've lost track of the number of times someone on my team gets autofilled support, and then decides to troll with aurelion sol support.

the autofill mechanism is causing toxicity. Both in the people that get autofilled, and also their teammates who have to deal with completely incompetent people on their team due to them being out of role.

"but it would cause longer queue times..."

you think people would rather get into games faster, and then lose? REALLY? If you ACTUALLY THINK a large number of people favor this, I give you this challenge, riot:

GIve people a checkbox option, person by person. Check "i want faster queue times (requires autofill) vs "I dont want any autofill on my team (may require up to 3 times longer to find a team)"

I for one dont care if I have to wait FIFTEEN MINUTES for a match, so long as I dont have autofills in it. Heck, autofills have been a cause for me to have longer than a 30min wait for a game anyway, since sometimes, people get autofilled and dodge!

Cmon riot. Do the experiment. Then do the math. Measure the popularity of each option, and measure the effect on queue times.

The issue with this is that Riot has already determined that the community thought queue times were too long before autofill... and by allowing anyone to opt out, it would not just lengthen their queue time, but everyone's queue time. Riot does not ever believe in any form of negative affect being caused to someone completely separate from a choice - which is what would happen - someone could choose to "opt out" of autofill, and they would increase everyone's queue times - causing negative affect on someone innocent who didn't have any say in the matter.

I'm personally not a fan of autofill. It lowers your chances of winning if someone gets a role that they're not familiar with (i.e. - a Darius one trick being autofilled ADC). Me playing with an inexperienced autofilled support an ADC main isn't fun. But I see why they added it. People were complaining that the queue times were too long. So either one side of the community will be happy (shorter queue times) or the other side (always get your role even though it's a bit of a wait).

Bottom line, there are better ways to address long queue times, than autofill. For example, you can show queuetimes for each role. Imagine people seeing: top: 3min mid: 10min adc: 5min jg: 3min sup: 10 seconds

ya think more people will choose support?

no autofill required
