Ten reasons why it's better not to flame back

Tuition Fee·3/1/2019, 1:47:25 AM·42 votes·13,460 views
  1. Flamers usually get even madder when you don't react to their provocations.
  2. They get punished. You don't.
  3. Don't let one asshole ruin your day. Mute and enjoy the game.
  4. "Riot doesn't punish these people!" Trust me, they do. I have a few friends who've been permanently banned, and even more who've gotten their 14 day suspension. Bots are usually pretty accurate with these things.
  5. It's not defending yourself, and the bot sure won't view it that way.
  6. It's not worth your time. In the time you were typing, you could've gotten ten more cs, or maybe a kill.
  7. It accomplishes nothing, really. Flamers usually don't take your points into consideration, and you won't vent off any steam by flaming them back; they'll respond with something that pisses you off even more.
  8. They might be not so subtly flame baiting, trying to get you to use one of the zero tolerance words.
  9. Don't stoop to their level! Keep your hands clean.
  10. Your teammates are more likely to sympathize with you if you don't add to the toxicity. A few kind words always help untilt!

Only takes 1 second to type "no u"

:^)

#11. You are making the flamer's flame feel more justified in their eyes. Don't give them an excuse that you were fully in control over.

Silly Neeko3/1/2019, 1:55:38 AM6 votes

Very much agreed. If people need proof that flaming back gets you punished..... check out most all of the player behavior posts of "i didnt deserve this punishment!". Obviously..... you did. It doesnt matter who started it, Riot is ending it.

Naw, i always just drop the N-word at them.

"Nice"

Starmfangy3/1/2019, 2:06:33 AM2 votes

It would work if they didn't soft int. I end up posting about the games state and how easy it is to snowball and how its pointless to try and win with a teamate that fed two kills. I never cared about that before, but riot has fcked up this game so much that 2 kills worth of gold is enough to steamrole you once and then snowball the rest of the game.

Eternal Torment3/1/2019, 11:43:34 AM2 votes

I have but 1 simple rule that basically summs it all up.

Be better, not just in skill, but in decency as well. They aren't worth my time and I sure as heck won't lose my acc over a 12yo ninja-subscribing Minecraft communist trying to stain my diamond with his filthy iron.

Jk. But real shit. Be a better person. Its the 2nd best bragging right next to "I banged a celebrity"

Flawless Fetus3/1/2019, 1:12:32 PM1 votes

Everyone knows people get banned for toxicity. No one gets banned for inting. Lol.

10 reasons to flame people

  1. Flamers need to be put in their place to learn their lesson.

  2. They usually don't get punished, and hoping that they will is just pathetic.

  3. If an asshole ruins my day, I take great pleasure in ruining his right back.

  4. Trust me, they don't. If they did, I wouldn't get them in nearly all of my games.

  5. If Riot won't defend me by punishing people who refuse to help their allies, or feed their hyper carry and then laugh at you when you ask them nicely to stop, then I guess I have to take matters into my own hands.

  6. It's definitely worth my time to tell an asshole what an asshole he's being.

  7. It accomplishes making the game-destroyers feel small, which they are. They are small pieces of trash that should be stepped on.

  8. Of course, they are, that's why they need to be taught a lesson.

  9. Fix the matchmaking system and I will, I promise.

  10. How many times I've KINDLY asked people to please play defensive or please don't feed. I can assure you from experience, it does not work. They just feed more. Asking the support to actually support is even worse. They prefer to stand there and leech exp while you die.

Downvoted just 4 this. I'm sick of every lucky person coming to the boards and assuming that his experience is the same as everyone else's. No, most people don't get punished. At least not until they've ruined HUNDREDS of games. Tell me, honestly, just how much did your friends have to ruin other people's games to eventually get banned? If bans were such a common thing, people would be much more afraid to troll and be toxic, since they would have to constantly buy/level up new accounts. Think of all the threads we've just seen on this board that all kinda said: "Man ppl have been so much more toxic lately". The commonality of such behavior should be enough to clue you in on how often these people get punished.

RJay1233/1/2019, 2:23:51 PM1 votes

Alright, I have a compromise. Why not troll them? Not in game, I mean personally. You know how easy it is the mess with someone who's so mad they feel the absolute need to let you know that your presence makes them angry? WHAT POWER dude, it's like having a younger sibling get red-faced cause you whooped him or her in super smash bros.

1/7 top: Learn to jungle, you're absolute trash Me: Gotta see the jungle, feel the jungle, be the jungle top: spam ping Me: Is that how your mom calls you down for dinner? Can I join?

Edit: I usually do better at being sarcastic in the moment :)

im a flamer the higher i go on my acc. never flamed gold or lower ranked players because i dont need to type in that elo(also makes no sense because they dont know better). my flaming starts when i have boosted d4 players or 35% plat 1-2 players that were diamond last season but have zero wins in the last 10 games :). if u try to tell them what they should do or what not u r the a**hole and get fullmuted+ reported after the game.

  1. i can see that. i get mad when i lose games that are actually won but the team doesnt listen to my calls. 2-5.obvious if u fullmute and they insult u, but not listening to a better player is ruining the game and u might lose just because of that 6-10. so tell me if a better player tells u what to do and what not do. do u see that as an insult and flame ? i have seen 2 players over all my games reacting to me and admitted that they were doing a mistake or more. they even added me and we talked about what they did wrong and how they could improve their gameplay. but as u can see this is so rare. most of the time its fullmute and they report me after the game
Hammermancer3/1/2019, 6:54:42 PM1 votes

I just say "Sorry I suck dude, but imma mute you"

i never actually mute them, but they stop bitching or I have a better case to report them if they keep flaming me

though sometimes I may do something subtly toxic like flash to KS or steal a blue >.>

Inkling Commando3/1/2019, 8:37:58 PM1 votes

i simply move the chat box off screen so i dont have to see players flame at me. and at same time i wont be tempted to flame back. i have pings visible but silenced so i can see them on map but wont hear the ping. and when a player spam pings me i simply ignore it.

you can respond to them, i usually give them a "?" or an "ok", you can report them after and they get punished pretty quick based on what they said

AgeOfShadow923/3/2019, 4:26:51 AM1 votes

I would like to add something on the more positive end.

People who flame generally really care about the game, so do people that say "gg fuck" etc. They are just frustrated.

Iif you keep it cool, do your best to play, and play for the W they will probably calm down (as long as you and your temamates don't respond to them)

Trolls and flamers aren't the ssame thing btw.

So, anyway, if you ignore them and pick up the W, you can always still report them in the end. >:)

  1. Flamers usually get even madder when you don't react to their provocations.

This counters the point of the post. So you're saying they should react to the flamer to stop him from getting mad?

  1. They get punished. You don't.

We both have different chances of getting punished, based on the severity of the flame and the consistency of flame from past games.

  1. Don't let one asshole ruin your day. Mute and enjoy the game.

I'm thick skinned, and flame helps me enjoy the game because it is entertaining.

  1. "Riot doesn't punish these people!" Trust me, they do. I have a few friends who've been permanently banned, and even more who've gotten their 14 day suspension. Bots are usually pretty accurate with these things.

Anecdotal evidence, nice! Well I flame almost regularly and i haven't been permabanned in over 4 years, hell i had honor 4 last season. And i see tons of people in Reddit claim the system is easy to bypass.

  1. It's not defending yourself, and the bot sure won't view it that way.

True.

  1. It's not worth your time. In the time you were typing, you could've gotten ten more cs, or maybe a kill.

Not really true unless it's excessive typing.

  1. They might be not so subtly flame baiting, trying to get you to use one of the zero tolerance words.

So i don't use any zero tolerance words?

  1. Don't stoop to their level! Keep your hands clean.

Flaming isn't really bad to an extent.

  1. Your teammates are more likely to sympathize with you if you don't add to the toxicity. A few kind words always help untilt!

Why the hell do i care about my teammate's sympathy?

Man, if only people would learn what true flaming is or being toxic for that matter. Cracks me up when you make a legit suggestion to help a struggling player and they telling you "reported, stop being toxic!" ... Like, all I said was get yourself a Zhonya's cause it'll help you? ...
