Well today I found out that the ban system is still working nicely.

I had a game earlier today where a on my team Singed lost his lane, flamed Lee Sin for not ganking his lane, and proceeded to throw the game by not helping 1 little bit unless he happened to be standing in the middle of the fight when it broke out. When everybody else on the team told him to stop flaming and start playing, he muted everybody and continued to flame. this guy tried to steal buffs from our Orianna and Caitlyn and would run off in the middle of teamfights to go farm top lane (that is when he even bothered to show up). At the end of he game he said that he was trying to throw the game because we were toxic to him (nope) and we deserved the loss. I got up to go to the bathroom and when I came back me and 2 other guys who played with me last game (Ori and Caitlyn) all received the message that Singed had been punished.

Hell fucking yeah. Feels good to get that message.

to be fair proxy farming is a lot riskier with the season 6 changes where minions don't follow you nearly as far and the changes to wards, but it did not change Singed's role to be a complete nuisance to the enemy team and to try and draw as much attention up top so that his jungler is free to pressure every other lane.

he muted the entire team and kept on being a dick. ya know calling us noobs, saying we should kill ourselves etc

If he muted you then you wouldn't be able to see his messages. He probably just threatened to mute you but never did.

No... if he muted you, then he wouldn't be able to hear you, but he could still yell at you.

Do an experiment: Take out your phone and call someone. Then hit "mute" on the phone. Does it stop both ends of the conversation? No, only yours, you can still hear the other person.

With the phone you mute yourself, in game you mute others. It doesn't stop the other person from getting your chat.

You know what, I'm wrong sorry, the expected behavior is that both will not receive messages from each other, because this is not like a phone, where the reasons for muting are completely different.

The design is to allow game decisions to be made. The player that had to mute someone can say something game related and the other person can hear it. "Annie flash down" is good information to know regardless of if the person saying it doesn't want to hear you reply to them.

I understand the use case which riot thinks is occuring, but I feel it's flawed. That's why you got pings. HOWEVER, if you accept this as valid, then you should put in two options once to mute just the troll, and the other to mute yourself to the troll.

Or put a switch in the settings menu.

The only advantage of limiting your own chat is so you can talk about other players behind their back. I just can't see that being a good reason to add the feature you're asking for.

that could be some feed bot the other team is running and any strategic information is relayed to enemy.

This "singed" character is exactly why I am perma-banned.. I light these people up with zero remorse or regard for their well-being once this kind of thing starts.. Be wary.. Riot does not take anything in context.. Purely prema-bans from your chat.
