Two Name Changes In Two Days

Why is Riot hating on my account so much? I had to change my name after 2 1/2 years from DrtyTrouserSnake because some pre-made reported it and your bot system thought it was such a terribly obscene name, fair enough. So I change it forcibly to Gay Player which has no offensive connotation, and guess what? I log in today and I have to change my name again. Is it really so bad to express myself with my sexuality? I didn't know it was illegal to use sexuality as a username, but now I see that Riot's report system is so messed up and unfair, and the company obviously has no intention of actually reviewing the reports themselves, because this is not a name that should've been blocked. For a billion dollar company, the way you run reports is really unbelievable (and not in a good way).

How about you just pick a name that isn’t obscene in any way?

It’s pretty obvious what your first name was referring to. Why do you feel so intent on picking a name related to sex/sexuality?

Okay? You think no one has controversial names, and those who do are usually a lot of more offensive than mine. I've seen names that incite racists remarks, but I guess those are okay right? As long as it doesn't have anything to do with sexual orientation.

No, names that have the potential to be racist or incite racial discussion are also prohibited and if reported they will likely be forced to change their name.

League isn’t a place for discussion over political correctness.

Gay is a term used most frequently to describe sexual orientation. That is an issue that is both considered inappropriate for some audiences and considered to be polarized and offensive to some.

Why can’t you just pick a normal name?

What about my name isn't normal? Normal is all opinion, I think your name isn't normal, so doesn't that mean it should be banned? The game is rated T, sexual orientation is not an adult topic, it's a teen topic. According to ESRB, my name is appropriate for the intended audience of LoL. Plus, I want a name that makes people happy when they see, not some boring name.

You're obviously either trying to pick childish, political, polarized, or controversial names.

According to ESRB, the policing and rules applied to online communication between humans in a game is both not rated by ESRB, and up to the company running the game to police. Riot has decided that while League is a T game per ESRB, their online communications standards (such as names, chats, etc) are to be somewhere between E and T.

While I would love to agree, I go back to the fact, that sexuality shouldn't be and isn't an adult topic. Unless i specifically talk about sodomy, there is no adult content in my name, thus it can be considered an E rating.

And I will go back to the fact that Riot doesn't necessarily consider it an "adult" topic, but a "controversial" one. Just like you can't go name yourself "kkk" or "neo-nazi" or similar. Those aren't necessarily "adult" (kids learn about them in history in grade school), they're certainly controversial.

Lastly, I'll go even further back to this: Riot makes the rules. You may not agree, but you must comply if you wish to play League.

Are you really trying to compare someone being gay to Nazis and the KKK? You are aware being gay isn't a choice while you choose to be a Nazi or in the KKK. The fact that you even tried to compare the two, shows how ignorant you are. How can someone believe that being gay is close to as controversial as someone in a hate group who wishes genocide on a certain group of people because or religious beliefs or skin color?

Maybe you're so sheltered you don't see it, but the subject of gay marriage, gays in the military, gays in public service, gays as medical professionals.. there's a lot of controversy between people who believe it's wrong and those who don't care.

The fact that this post has had this many responses, most of which don't really agree "that name is perfectly fine" (many are neutral or slightly against your name), should show you how controversial your name is.

Riot does not allow controversial names. Your name is controversial. Riot makes the rules. Follow them or leave. Your choice. I'm done here.

I think you're wrong there, a lot of the comments on here are supporting me or is just neutral, you're really the only one against it, but you are also the only person here who's comments all have down votes, so I have to disagree with you. My name is in no way controversial, it is 2017 and gay marriage is legal in all 50 states, so I wouldn't say its controversial unless you're an ignorant hick who still believes it's a choice.

Where do you get that from? I am not baiting arguments at all, this guy just wants to continue to argue with moot points such as comparing the KKK to gays. If you have no respect for me anymore that is your choice, and I'm not going to argue, you have the right to your opinion. Just know, I'm not purposing trying to start an argument and I'm definitely not bullying anyone. I'm just defending my opinions which is my right, just as you have the right to yours.

It's really REALLY bold to place "Gay" and "KKK" in the same category no matter what. I don't feel like the KKK is very controversial, most people agree that the KKK isn't really a great thing. Moreover there's still my point that a summoner can hold the name "Lesbian Loli" but another cannot hold the name "Gay Player". This, if anything, should seem like an anomaly almost.

That's my point, no one cares if I'm gay or not, so why is my name being banned? And you say representing the gay community, are you part of it? If you are, then you should be agreeing with me that names involving homosexuality are not inappropriate unless the mention of gay sex is involved. Also, this isn't technically a kids game, it's a teen game, I am a teen, so I think I'm okay in that aspect.

I honestly don't even get why you have to change your name, what has support told you so far? Why not post it in an alike thread or down in the comments so we can see! I am dying to see what sort of messages they've sent you! Because I've seen names like "Lesbian Loli" which are seemingly worse than "Gay Player". There's nothing sexual or explicit about being gay. If your name was "Straight Player", "Bi Player", or "Lesbian Player" then it wouldn't be any different to me. IF you're forced to change your name though! GAY MODEL!!!! <3 That'd be an amazing name :D

Thank you, someone finally understands that the name change was completely unnecessary. I have contacted Riot a few times, but so far I have only gotten copy-paste responses that don't really help. I saw a guy named "Gay Player" but you're telling me they are making you change it. Point is, you don't know what happens to these account names. Maybe they do get reported and forced to change eventually. Maybe no one ever reports them so they just continue on.

It was probably just a mistake. Usually, it's a system that has inputted words that are commonly associated with the inciting of violence, hate speech, etc. Also (this could be a reach), your name could be taken as you, the owner of the account, calling someone else a "Gay Player". Regardless, just take it up with Player Support. Be patient too; this billion dollar company gets a lot of inquiries sent to player support. I know I'd be annoyed if I were you, but it's not Riot, as a whole, to blame.

I'd like to think Riot would accept a name like Gay Player because it doesn't incite hate and it isn't really obscene. I do however believe it is Riot's fault for having such a bad report system that typically only uses bots and can be easily abused.

I don't know about "Gay Player", it isn't inherently offensive and I don't believe you intend it to be, but the other one is clearly an inappropriate name, and it was changed due to a manual review. Please submit a Support Ticket about your new name so you can discuss it with Player Support directly; if they don't think it's offensive they will let you keep it.

I think Gay Player would be considered an unnecessary distraction. It's just inappropriate, there's no reason for it. The fact of the matter is, homosexuality can be pretty polarizing. Regardless what you're told by the media or in school, lots of people find homosexuality to be offensive. It doesn't matter what you or I THINK, it just IS what it is. You can't change that historically, homosexuality is considered a sinful, dirty, unnatural act. Sodomy is literally illegal in some states. So to name yourself that, just causes unnecessary distractions that could result in idealistic debates in the middle of matches. Since Rito follows Political Correctness, they kind of have to use a zero tolerance for this kind of thing. They can't justify me naming myself "Gays are sinners", so they can't just allow you to name yourself Gay Player, even though that is very neutral. It's just zero tolerance for names that refer to a sexual preference, in my opinion. I could be wrong of course, that's just a reason I thought of.

I reported, Jewsinmyoven, who soon changed it to Jewsinmyfurnace. These were both deemed not ok, but the same user now, jewsinmyapple doesn't seem to be a problem.

I don't even know anymore. And for the record, I HAAATE political correctness and believe gay player, jewsinmyapple, gays are sinners, should all be allowed.
