Just got my first suspension after me and my duo got flamed by a homophobic and toxic player. Game started off I made some funny jokes to my MF and she lol'd. Then the Kled started flaming me and MF everytime we died saying "int?". Game escalated and he started calling me and my duo "%%%gs"and I repeated it in a defensive way. I believe I got suspended for that. Is this really fair to me?

My friend also reported him for the same thing, no sign of punishment so far. But you're not wrong, just no sign of the other guy being punished yet.

Riots punishment system is broken as f. You don't even have to say anything offensive and you can get banned. Its ridiculous. Riot needs to stop with the immediate bans and punishment over simplifying the punishment system is ruining the game. Cant talk smack anymore, might as well just play the game with everyone muted.

I agree and disagree, sometimes it works, but yeah automatic punishment is overall trash. Especially for such a big company. You get in trouble for stupid things, but when someone says something that is actually messed up (Actual racism or homophobia) they get away with it.

If they're muted, no-one will see the insults. You can still report them and they'll still get punished. There's literally no downside to not being able to get insulted.

yea, its just people that cant deal knowing the difference between smack talk and being toxic that are the real problem. we have a screwed up punishment system. The only thing that should be report worthy should be intentional feeding and afk. Other wise if someone is really verbal abusive we can just mute.

You do not always get informed when a punishment is sent out. It's possible than the other individual either received one or received significant progress towards one, and it's honestly hard to say which it likely is without having seen the chat logs of the other individual.

Because putting in the context causes users to focus more on "but look what HE said" and less on "look at what of MY behavior was out of line." As Riot's data from the Tribunal shows that the community doesn't care who started something (and simply doesn't like toxicity in ANY form), it's better to give direct, usable data that shows only what the individual said so they can analyze their own behavior better.

I reported a duo for some absurd behavior a few days ago, no notification from riot, but neither of them has played a game since..

Hopefully they were punished in some way. I feel as though the system is flawed. I feel that there shouldn't be an automatic system unless reported for Hate Speech or Inting. Riot's system picks out words that fit their criteria for punishment and it can be extremely out of context.

It is fair. Why? Because you retaliated against toxicity with toxicity. It wasn't just what you said that was against zero-tolerance policy, but your attitude in general. How in anyway in your head did you think flaming back was going to solve anything?

Toxic is toxic, regardless of who starts it.

There is a really fine line between banter/arguing and toxicity. I feel as though what I said was not close to as toxic as what he said. Sure toxicity is toxicity but the same for crimes, there are different levels. There are misdemeanors and felonies, both are bad, but one is more heavily punished. If I had to classify it, his was a felony and mine a misdemeanor not worth of a suspension, but Chat Restriction.

Oh, the system and I can tell the difference. But nothing that you were doing was really bantering. You were being inflammatory and insulting. Teasing and joking, while saying "nice flash" when they fail, or "haha try again" are game related banters. There's nothing wrong with that. You, however, you were being personal, you were calling the player a homophobe, ignorant, and childish. Those aren't bantering. That's straight up insulting, toxic, and inflammatory.

What you may consider mild is irrelevant in this case. There are no "mild toxicity" or "Extreme toxicity" when it comes to the penalty system. There's just simply Toxic. That's it. As for the Pyke, he's not going to be the topic here. No one cares about what he did or what he said. Because when it comes to your case, this case is about you and you alone. If that Pyke came here with the same topic, blaming it on someone else, we'd say the exact same thing to him as what I am saying to you. Pyke here is irrelevant and not the problem. The problem is how you handled the situation.

A penalty is a penalty. We all get the same warnings. No special privileges. If you were suspended for 14 days, heed the warning, next time mute the player. For your next suspension will be the last for your account. If you were permanently suspended... Well..

You're either part of the game or part the problem. Permaban means you were the problem.

It may be, but its all true, he was homophobic, ignorant and childish. I guess the community has become so sensitive that saying things like that is on the same lines as being racist or homophobic. Didn't know it was a crime to call people out on their shit. I probably should've muted him, but that doesn't change the fact that he was extremely offensive. You cannot compare the two issues, I handled it the way anyone who cares should, defending their sexuality and friends.

Maybe he was but doesn't give you the rights to insult him. You were permitted to play this game on agreed Terms, regardless if you read it or not, skipped it or simply ignored it, you are bound by a set of rules of Riot's service. In your mind, League of Legends' community became sensitive. But that's not the case. Maybe you've become inconsiderate to other people's feelings, standards, belief, and culture. You say he's ignorant, but you just pointed how ignorant you are due to how much you lack empathy for this community. Thinking they're just sensitive just because they have their own feelings, their own thoughts, and standards. When something negative is happening, you mute it and report it. Then you play the game.

As for how you handled it, honestly no, you didn't handle it as anyone should or as maturely as anyone should. You the handled it ignorantly and inconsiderately. If you wanted to handle it properly, you could have muted the player and tell your friends to mute them. You're playing a video game. You're not out on the streets or in public where people can physically harm you. You're here to play a video, so play the damn video game that Riot provided for everyone.

It doesn't achieve anything either - insulting him isn't going to change his attitude. It does have the potential to annoy the rest of your team who just want to play without having to mute two bickering teammates.
