Riot needs to take a class on basic human psychology.

When you chat restrict me for being negative over 3 different games, and then reset my honor to -1, as in I can't even earn it for awhile, Well Riot, in your mind, how am I motivated? Oh, I guess now that my honor is locked, I really want to keep earning those pointless honor marks, right?

When after fifty games of being polite and eating ADC 0/6/0 shit and still being nice, oh after 3 fucking games, fuck you, flush it all down the fucking toilet, right? **How is anyone motivated to constantly eat shit when all it takes is just 1-3 games to flush all your positive behavior completely down the shitter? ** You need to figure out a way to punish people without completely removing any desire to ever be honorable ever again. Your system currently spawns toxicity.

Also, in case it's unclear, your system of chat restrictions into bans, that DOES incentivize me to change. That's the stick. So why do you also take away the carrot and go "NO CARROT 4 U"???? Basic psychology, guys. Really simple stuff. There should be an accruing system that the honor you receive acts as a buffer against being reported, so that you actually are rewarded for being honorable. As it stands your honor system is a cruel joke.

You should be motivated to not lose your account, that's what the warning is for.

Reading comprehension, I already covered that. guess i'll have to go over it again. That's the STICK. It works, but it's a fear based, punishment based paradigm. Without the carrot it just makes them look mean and nasty. so why take away the carrot? there's a reason why there's a carrot, and a stick, but when the STICK goes "NO MORE CARROT 4 U" then there's no more carrot and stick? Do you know what happens when you just beat on someone with a stick? they eventually lose all motivation. I can't explain it any clearer than that, I hope you get it now.

I don't think you understand, the carrot would be your account.

if you have no desire to be honorable other than to get a honor badge then you don't deserve honor in the first place

it's not to keep people motivated it's to make you not want to lose the rewards the honor system is about the only way to get keys reliably without buying them you also get end season rewards and such for being a high honor level.

it just makes even another reason to not be toxic. it's not for motivation.

That actually clears it up a bit, I appreciate that post. My point still stands, though-if you're positive and actually receive +2 honor every game for 14 games, and then for less than half that, for 3 games, you're punished, and it totally SWALLOWS UP all 14 of those games? That's too extreme, it invalidates all my past behavior as worthless, so why would I want to continue that in the future when all it takes is such a small amount of infraction to destroy such a large amount of positive good will?

It's really a little bit like real life. If you behave well for your whole life, and then suddenly you rob a bank or whatever, you will get jailed. It doesn't really matter that you behaved well your whole life. (except, that the punishment is maybe not that harsh like it would be for a repeater)

This is a really shitty fair weather double standard that doesn't promote honorable behavior, it punishes it, Just like in real life. I realize this is not an intuitive statement for most, so I'll explain. When someone is being a dick to you, or failing the team so badly that it literally would have been better if they went afk, 0/6/0 adc who hasn't gotten a single objective, not even a dragon. Not even one damn assist. The very same ADC is wholeheartedly flaming you for not ganking enough, or not successfully enough.

The honorable thing of course is to say nothing or try to be encouraging, right? How many of you would actually enjoy saying nothing or be encouraging towards a person who is actively contributing to your game being worthless, and taking a big crap on your shoulder at the same time?

This honor system makes it so that you can't even verbally defend yourself, your sole option is to run to teacher like a 5 year old and tattle on them. I personally find that counter-intuitive, when someone is being a dick to me my first impulse is to just tell them off, rather than go to the Cyber Authorities. This is NOT how it works in real life.

If you go crying to the manager of the mall every time someone says "Fuck you" in real life, they will ignore you, and later on get downright hostile towards you for wasting their time. Maybe the honor system bans someone, guess what's happen then. They are never going to play a free to play game ever aga... oh wait they are just going to make a brand new account and be toxic yet again, because it is a universal truth that humanity doesn't believe they are wrong. Nobody thinks they are evil. I guarantee you that at least 95% of all people who have been banned don't feel they deserve it.

Also just like in real life, this system makes it so that most everyone will automatically try to figure out every possible way to circumvent it.

TLDR-honor system makes it so that your only recourse is the most childish, anti-real life method, which is tattling, meanwhile, the entire system is flawed because people don't think they are evil, so they are going to automatically think the system is unfair. Finally, like IRL, people will go through hell and high water to figure out how to circumvent any rules so they can say what they want without getting punished.

There is no way any bot can keep up with that basic desire to communicate. I mean, jesus, this is one of the basic blocks of society, one of the formative powers on on language itself, so many words have came into being because some other word was banned via social contract.

With all that said, I do think there should be a system in place, it's just the current one is way, way, WAY too fast on the draw. It's a system that ironically has no aloha, despite trying to promote an aloha spirit by attempting to reduce toxicity. Because it's so quick to just smash you to honor zero over so little, it ...just has no aloha. It doesn't feel good. It feels like i'm being forced to conform to a super judgey standard that makes no sense to begin with as adults say things to each other, they don't run and tattle to a higher power.

It promotes non-toxic behavior.

Or mute them. Reporting or not reporting is up to you, but whether you hear chat from a nasty player is entirely within your control.

you can easily grind honor if you just play a lot and have a good attitude id suggest only using team chat and moving the chat box off screen to the bottom left and just type gj after every kill or objective your team gets no matter how badly they might be failing

also my honor thing unlock after about a week i'm honor level 0 after about 100 games but i flame a good amount so that might be why i'm still honor level 0

yes, it's the worst game regulation system ever designed. let's leave it at that

I really want to keep earning those pointless honor marks, right?

But, if you call the honor marks "pointless" you were never motivated to get them in the first place, were you?

  1. I’m pretty sure that the people who work at Riot have taken many more psychology classes combined than you have.

  2. A long term period of good behavior does not excuse bad behavior. If you never rob a store, but suddenly you do, you’ll still get in trouble.

it typically takes more than 3 games to get someone punished.

The reform card shows you 1-5 recent games of unacceptable behavior as examples, but it doesn't mean you were punished for those alone.
